Este trabajo aborda el estudio de «La ciudad» de Max Weber desde un punto de vista metodológico. Muestra de un comparativismo extremado y en apariencia autosuficiente, el texto de Weber pone ejemplarmente en evidencia los límites de la pura comparación en el campo de la sociología histórica. Para hacerlo más inteligible se hace un triple recorrido: el primero muestra los resultados y límites de la estrategia comparada que lo domina; el segundo rescata su estrategia analítica; el tercero muestra su estructura narrativa de fondo. La propuesta final es que sólo es posible hacerlo plenamente inteligible si se toman en consideración las tres estrategias y su combinación.

The thesis has as its goal the discussion over the pleasure as an intellectual and personal subject for Max Weber. The main references are The Sociology of Religion, Science as a Vocation and Politics as a Vocation, Bureaucracy, The sense of "Axiological Neutrality" in Social and Economic Sciences. Many authors were researched for information about his life, with a highlight to the biography written by his wife Marianne Weber, for its great number of excerpts from letters and informal conversations. The subject "pleasure" was developed by taking into consideration the complexity of this phenomenon which happens in an ambivalent and multiple ways. In order to do that, we started from the paradigm of the complexity according to Edgar Morin's view, Georges Bataille's discussions on erotism and the antinomic comprehension of Lepegneur and Onfray, who define pleasure as a phenomenon with ambiguities, and the historical references of Peter Gay, Nobert Elias, Wolf Lepenies. In Max Weber, pleasure presents, also, this ambiguity, as his scientific approach is registering the absence of pleasure for the rise of a protestant ethic and, besides that, to support with a process of disenchantment of the world which leads us to a meaningless life. Weber goes through great changes in the last years of his life. In this period he includes in his comments the subjects "erotism" and "arts" with the possibility of escaping from modem everyday routine that affects the individual's existential freedom. However, his ambiguous position about these possibilities take him to consider that a situation o f personal confrontation, considered heroical, once, in his opinion, each one accepts the consequences o f their acts and builds their values to give a meaning to their own existence. The pleasure in Weber is, above ali aspects, intellectual and existential: side by side with the routine, bureaucracy and disenchantment ofthe world was the possibility of charisma, vocation and passion. However, always he related these characteristics to the discomfort that the modem world presented to men, he, as a scientist, was ethical. This is the main argument ofthis thesis

Em 1946, Guerreiro Ramos publica a resenha "A sociologia de Max Weber - sua importância para a teoria e a prática da administração", na Revista do Serviço Público - RSP. Nela, mais do que apresentar ao leitor a obra de Weber Economia e sociedade, com foco em sua metodologia, também procura demonstrar sua aplicabilidade no trato das questões da administração pública e sua relevância num país "culturalmente colonial" como o Brasil. A considerar as especificidades da produção de conhecimento no campo de estudos organizacionais e o fato de Guerreiro Ramos expressar, no ensaio, uma visão que não é a que prevaleceu no campo, mas que é fiel à sociologia compreensiva e à metodologia ideal-típica, cabe aqui o esforço de reiterar o referido trabalho de Guerreiro Ramos a partir da proposição de uma discussão de caráter teórico conceitual com base no conteúdo resenhado relacionado à construção metodológica da crítica ideal-típica.

Many theories, most famously Max Weber s essay on the Protestant ethic, have hypothesizedthat Protestantism should have favored economic development. With their considerablereligious heterogeneity and stability of denominational affiliations until the 19th century, theGerman Lands of the Holy Roman Empire present an ideal testing ground for this hypothesis.Using population figures in a dataset comprising 272 cities in the years 1300 1900, I find no effectsof Protestantism on economic growth. The finding is robust to the inclusion of a varietyof controls, and does not appear to depend on data selection or small sample size. In addition,Protestantism has no effect when interacted with other likely determinants of economic development.I also analyze the endogeneity of religious choice; instrumental variables estimates ofthe effects of Protestantism are similar to the OLS results.
