This paper describes a facile route for simultaneous synthesis of polyaniline (PANI) nanotubules and gold nanoplates. The inner diameter of PANI nanotubules was less than 10 nm and the length was several micrometers. At the same time, uniform single-crystal gold nanoplates with thicknesses of tens of nanometers were obtained.

Polyaniline was used as a nonmetal catalyst in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene and yield of 22.9% at 573 K and similar to 40% at 673 K were obtained, respectively. An indirect oxidative dehydrogenation mechanism was proposed based on the results of pulse reactions.

Polyaniline/magnetite nanocomposites consisting of polyaniline (PANI) nanorods surrounded by magnetite nanoparticles were prepared via an in situ self-assembly process in the presence of PANI nanorods. The synthesis is based on the well-known chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline in an acidic environment, with ammonium persulfate (APS) as the oxidant. An organic acid (dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid, DBSA) was used to replace the conventional strong acidic (1 M HCl) environment. Here, dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid is used not only as dopant, but also as surfactant in our reaction system.

Starburst-substituted hexaazatriphenylene Compounds have been designed and synthesized by introducing various peripheral aryl substituents to the central heterocyclic core. The effects of various substituent groups on the photophysical and electrochemical properties of the substituted hexaazatriphenylene have been investigated. Significant red-shifts of the absorption peak (from 413 nm to 530 nm) and emission peak (from 432 nm to 700 nm) were observed when the electron-donating ability of the aryl substituents was increased, corresponding to a decrease in the band gap from 2.90 eV to 2.05 eV. Introducing bulky substituents with weak electron-donating ability enhances the fluorescence quantum yield from 23% to 87%. In contrast, incorporating aryl substituents with strong electron-donating ability decreases the fluorescence quantum yield.

A new approach for the synthesis of polyaniline nanofibers under pseudo-high dilute conditions in aqueous system has been developed. High yield nanoscale polyaniline fibers with 18-110 nm in diameter are readily prepared by a high aniline concentration 0.4 M oxidation polymerization using ammonium persulfate (APS) as an oxidant in the presence of hydrochloric acid (HCl), perchloric acid (HClO4), (1S)-(+)-10-camphorsulfonic acid (CSA), acidic phosphate PAEG120 (PA120) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) as the dopants. The novel pathway always produces polyaniline nanofibers of tunable diameters, high conductivity (from 10(0) to 10(1) S/cm) and crystallinity.

Aqueous conducting polyaniline dispersion was prepared employing acidic phosphate ester bearing hydrophilic ethylene glycol segment as dopant, and conducting film with electrical conductivity of 25 S/cm was obtained from the dispersion. Ordered self-assembly lamellar structure with interlamellar distance of 1.2 nm was observed in the film, which consisted of alternating layers of rigid polyaniline chain and flexible phosphate ester side chains, where the phosphate side chain layer was separated by two rigid polyaniline layers. The lamellar structure leading to high conducting film was formed due to the confinement of polyaniline chain by crystallizable phosphate side chain, since the electrical conductivity decreased by four orders of magnitude once the dopant side chain crystalline was destroyed. The crystallizable side chain forced lamellar structure is expected to be a new chance for highly conducting polyaniline.

The macroscopic mechanical properties of polyaniline (PANI) lie mainly on two factors, the structure of molecular aggregations of polymers and the mechanical properties of a single polymer chain. The former factor is swell revealed; however, the latter is rarely studied. In this article, we have employed atomic force microscopy-based single-molecule force spectroscopy to investigate the mechanical properties of a kind of water-soluble PANI at a single-molecular level. We have carried out the study comparatively on single-chain-stretching experiments of oxidized, reduced, and doped PANI and obtained a full view of the single-chain elasticity of PANI in all these states. It is found that oxidized and reduced PANI chains are rigid, and the oxidized PANI is more rigid than the reduced PANI. Such a difference in single-chain elasticity can be rationalized by the molecular structures that are composed of benzenoid diamine and quinoid diimine its different proportions. The doped PANI has been found to be more flexible than the oxidized and reduced PANI, and the modified freely jointed chain parameters of doped PANI are similar with those of a common flexible-chain polymer.

An efficient and divergent one-pot synthesis of substituted 2H-pyrans, 4H-pyrans and pyridin-2(1H)-ones from beta-oxo amides based on the selection of the reaction conditions is reported. Mediated by N,N,N',N'-tetramethylchloroformamidinium chloride, beta-oxo amides underwent intermolecular cyclizations in the presence of triethylamine at room temperature to give substituted 2H-pyrans in high yields, which could be converted into substituted 4H-pyrans in the presence of sodium hydroxide in ethanol at room temperature, or into substituted pyridin-2(1H)-ones under reflux.

An efficient one-pot synthesis of substituted quinolines from alpha-arylamino ketones in the presence of PBr3 in DMF has been developed. This general protocol provides a novel and facile access to substituted quinolines by sequential Vilsmeier-Haack reaction, intramolecular cyclization and aromatization reactions of alpha-arylamino ketones. PBr3 plays a dual role in the quinoline synthesis: as a key component of the Vilsmeier reagent (PBr3/DMF) and as a reducing reagent.

A facile and convenient synthesis method has been developed for substituted quinoxalines and 2H-benzo[b][1,4]oxazines from the reactions of alpha-bromoketones with benzene-1,2-diamine and 2-aminophenol, respectively, which were catalyzed by tetrabutyl ammonium bromide (TBAB) in aqueous basic media.

A simple and facile procedure to synthesize a novel hybrid nanoelectrocatalyst based on polyaniline (PANI) nanofiber-supported supra-high density Pt nanoparticles (NPs) or Pt/Pd hybrid NPs without prior PANI nanofiber functionalization at room temperature is demonstrated. This represents a new type of ID hybrid nanoelectrocatalyst with several important benefits. First, the procedure is very simple and can be performed at room temperature using commercially available reagents without the need for templates and surfactants. Second, ultra-high density small "bare" Pt NPs or Pt/Pd hybrid NPs are grown directly onto the surface of the PANI nanofiber, without using any additional linker. Most importantly, the present PANI nanofiber-supported supra-high density Pt NPs or Pt/Pd hybrid NPs can be used as a signal enhancement element for constructing electrochemical devices with high performance.

Strong supramolecular interactions, which induced tight packing and rigid molecules in crystals of cyano substituent oligo(para-phenylene vinylene) (CN-DPDSB), are the key factor for the high luminescence efficiency of its crystals; opposite to its isolated molecules in solution which have very low luminescence efficiency.
