Captura incidental de um tubarão-baleia, Rhincodon typus (Orectolobiformes, Rhincodontidae), na costa do Ceará, Nordeste do Brasil

A whale shark, Rhincodon typus, was incidentally captured off Ceará on January 2009, during gillnet fishery. This is the second occurrence record for this species off the State and the first including material deposited in a scientific collection.

Efeito de hidrolisado de peixe sobre o crescimento micelial e controle de Cylindrocladium spathiphylli em espatifilo

Fish hydrolyzed (HP), poultry manure (CF), shrimp skin (CC), cattle manure (EB), sewage sludge (LE) and castorbean presscake (TM) were evaluated for their effect of aqueous extracts with and without autoclaving, on mycelial growth and conidial germination of Cylindrocladium spathiphylli. The effect of mixtures of residues with potting mixes and their volatile compounds were also evaluated on the mycelial growth of the pathogen. To evaluate the effect of HP in the suppressiveness to Cylindrocladium spathiphylli, HP was added in potting mix artificially infested, at concentrations of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% of the volume of water required to reach the water retention capacity of the potting mix. The mixtures were incubated for 10 days and transferred to pots containing one plug of Spathiphyllum Opal per pot. In the experiments in vitro, aqueous extracts and mixtures containing HP showed the highest suppressiveness against the pathogen. In the Spathiphyllum growing, the suppressiveness occurred at concentrations higher than 20% of fish hidrolyzed.

Histologia e histoquímica do intestino anterior de tilápia do Nilo (Oreochromis niloticus) alimentadas com dietas contendo silagem de peixe

This work was carried out to evaluate the action of the fermented fish silage and fish meal in the histochemical of the middle intestine of O. niloticus. A great epithelium intestinal was present in fishes fed with fish silage, independent of the animal origin protein proportions in diets. It was observed that the variation of the goblet cells secretion glicoproteic intensity is linked directly to the diet supplied to animals. The middle intestine of Oreochromis niloticus showed differences in the neutral mucus glicoproteic, acid glicoproteic and glicoconjugated secretion pattern, depending on the protein origin and the percentage used in the diet, demonstrating that this species can adapt its secretion system for the protection of the digesting apparatus during the absorption of different protein sources.

Algunas reflexiones acerca de un formulario censal diseñado para captura de datos mediante tecnología de imágenes (escáner)

El Censo de Población, Hogares y Viviendas del año 1996 de Uruguay incorporó simultáneamente un conjunto de innovaciones tecnológicas, manteniendo un alto control sobre la calidad de los datos y los costos. Ello cambió radicalmente la organización del trabajo de elaboración de los datos posterior al relevamiento, destacando la importancia de la capacidad institucional para la implementación del proceso con un alto nivel de coordinación. La automatización casi completa de la captura de datos (mediante tecnología de imágenes), la codificación de textos y la depuración de los datos resultantes, permitió -entre otros aspectos- un control de calidad más acucioso de todos los procesos, asegurando la uniformidad de criterios y la obtención de información detallada sobre los niveles de error obtenidos dentro de los rangos definidos. El análisis pormenorizado del "mapa" de los diferentes niveles de error de la captura de datos revela la existencia de múltiples factores de importancia que deben considerarse en el diseño de un cuestionario censal. Los avances tecnológicos producidos con posterioridad y los resultados globalmente positivos de una experiencia pionera -como la relatada- permiten predecir avances significativos en la calidad y eficiencia del procesamiento de los datos censales del futuro.

Henneguya nagelii n. sp. (Myxozoa: Myxobolidae) in Cyphocharax nagelii (Steindachner, 1881) (Teleostei: Characiformes: Curimatidae) from the Peixe's River, São Paulo State, Brazil

A new species of Myxosporea, Henneguya nagelii n. sp., is described parasitizing the gills of Cyphocharax nagelii collected from Peixe's River, São Paulo State, Brazil. Among the fish examined, 16.7 % had gills parasitized by myxosporeans. The plasmodia were white, round, or oval and measured 150-250 μm. The mature spores were fusiform and had smooth wall. The spores measurements were the following: total length, 34.5 ± 4.2 (26.4-39.9) μm; body length, 12.0 ± 0.5 (11.2-11.9) μm; body width, 4.9 ± 0.3 (4.4-5.5) μm; and caudal process length, 22.4 ± 4.0 (14.7-27.3) μm. The polar capsules were elongated and of unequal size, with lengths of 4.9 ± 0.4 (4.0-5.9) μm and 5.2 ± 0.4 (4.6-6.0) μm for the longest and shortest axes, respectively. Capsule width was 1.8 ± 0.2 (1.5-2.2) μm. Each capsule contained a polar filament with six to eight turns. There was no mucous envelope or iodinophilous vacuole. Morphometric differences between this parasite and other species of the genus Henneguya indicated that the parasite observed in C. nagelii is a new species. This is the first species of Myxosporea described in Peixe's River. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
