We present a measurement of the top quark pair (t (t) over bar) production cross section (sigma(t (t) over bar)) in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using 230 pb(-1) of data collected by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with one charged lepton (electron or muon), large missing transverse energy, and at least four jets, and extract the t (t) over bar content of the sample based on the kinematic characteristics of the events. For a top quark mass of 175 GeV, we measure sigma(t (t) over bar) 6.7(-1.3)(+1.4)(stat)(-1.1)(+1.6)(syst) +/- 0.4(lumi) pb, in good agreement with the standard model prediction. We show that the usual vector meson dominance method does not apply directly to the mixing of a color-octet vector boson (color-octet technirho) with the gluon because of gauge invariance. We propose a gauge invariant method where one works in a physical basis with mass eigenstate fields, As a result, we show that the physical technirho does not couple to two gluons, contrary to the general belief, Consequences for the production of a pair of color-octet, isosinglet technipions (technietas) at Fermilab is analyzed by means of a simulation of the signal and background, including kinematical cuts. We find that the signal is too small to be observed. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier B.V. B.V.

The goal of this article is to derive the Feynman rules involving single charginos, neutralinos, double charged gauge bosons, and sleptons in a 3-3-1 supersymmetric model. Using these Feynman rules we calculate the production of double charged charginos with neutralinos and also the production of a pair of single charged charginos, both in an electron-electron linear collider.

We present the results of a search for the effects of large extra spatial dimensions in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1: 96 TeV in events containing a pair of energetic muons. The data correspond to 246 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Good agreement with the expected background was found, yielding no evidence for large extra dimensions. We set 95% C. L. lower limits on the fundamental Planck scale between 0.85 and 1.27 TeV within several formalisms. These are the most stringent limits achieved in the dimuon channel to date.

We present a study of eey and mu mu gamma events using 1109 (1009) pb-(1) of data in the electron (muon) channel, respectively. These data were collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp collider at Is = 1.96 TeV. Having observed 453 (515) candidates in the eey (jtAy) final state, we measure the Z gamma production cross section for a photon with transverse energy ET > 7 GeV, separation between the photon and leptons Delta Rey > 0.7, and invariant mass of the di-lepton pair Mee > 30 GeV/(2)(c), to be 4.96 0.30(stat. + syst.) zE 0.30(lumi.) pb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of 4.74 0.22 pb. This is the most precise Zy cross section measurement at a hadron collider. We set limits on anomalous trilinear Zyy and ZZy gauge boson couplings of -0.085 < h(30)(y) < 0.084, -0.0053 < h(40)(y) < 0.0054 and -0.083 < h(30)(Z) < 0.082, 30 40 30 -0.0053 < h(40)(Z) < 0.0054 at the 95% C.L. for the form-factor scale A = 1.2 TeV. 40 Published by Elsevier B.V.

We present a study of mu mu mu mu, eeee, and mu mu ee events using 1 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV. Requiring the lepton pair masses to be greater than 30 GeV, we observe one event, consistent with the expected background of 0.13 +/- 0.03 events and with the predicted standard model ZZ and Z gamma(*) production of 1.71 +/- 0.15 events. We set an upper limit on the ZZ and Z gamma(*) cross section of 4.4 pb at the 95% C.L. We also derive limits on anomalous neutral trilinear ZZZ and ZZ gamma(*) gauge couplings. The one-parameter 95% C.L. coupling limits with a form-factor scale Lambda = 1.2 TeV are -0.28 < f(40)(Z)< 0.28, -0.31 < f(50)(Z)< 0.29, -0.26 < f(40)(gamma)< 0.26, and -0.30 < f(50)(gamma)< 0.28.

A measurement of the exclusive two-photon production of muon pairs in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV, pp -> p mu(+)mu(-) p, is reported using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 40 pb-1. For muon pairs with invariant mass greater than 11.5 GeV, transverse momentum p(T)(mu) > 4 GeV and pseudorapidity 1770.1) < 2.1, a fit to the dimuon p(T)(mu(+)mu(-)) distribution results in a measured cross section of sigma(p -> p mu(+)mu(-) p) - 3.38(-0.55)(+0.58) (stat.)+/- 0.16 (syst.) +/- 0.14 (lumi.) pb, consistent with the theoretical prediction evaluated with the event generator LPAIR. The ratio to the predicted cross section is 0.83+(0.14)(-0.13) (stat.) +/- 0.04 (syst.) +/- 0.03 (lumi.). The characteristic distributions of the muon pairs produced via Ty fusion, such as the muon acoplanarity, the muon pair invariant mass and transverse momentum agree with those from the theory.

The third primary production algorithm round robin (PPARR3) compares output from 24 models that estimate depth-integrated primary production from satellite measurements of ocean color, as well as seven general circulation models (GCMs) coupled with ecosystem or biogeochemical models. Here we compare the global primary production fields corresponding to eight months of 1998 and 1999 as estimated from common input fields of photosynthetically-available radiation (PAR), sea-surface temperature (SST), mixed-layer depth, and chlorophyll concentration. We also quantify the sensitivity of the ocean-color-based models to perturbations in their input variables. The pair-wise correlation between ocean-color models was used to cluster them into groups or related output, which reflect the regions and environmental conditions under which they respond differently. The groups do not follow model complexity with regards to wavelength or depth dependence, though they are related to the manner in which temperature is used to parameterize photosynthesis. Global average PP varies by a factor of two between models. The models diverged the most for the Southern Ocean, SST under 10 degrees C, and chlorophyll concentration exceeding 1 mg Chlm(-3). Based on the conditions under which the model results diverge most, we conclude that current ocean-color-based models are challenged by high-nutrient low-chlorophyll conditions, and extreme temperatures or chlorophyll concentrations. The GCM-based models predict comparable primary production to those based on ocean color: they estimate higher values in the Southern Ocean, at low SST, and in the equatorial band, while they estimate lower values in eutrophic regions (probably because the area of high chlorophyll concentrations is smaller in the GCMs). Further progress in primary production modeling requires improved understanding of the effect of temperature on photosynthesis and better parameterization of the maximum photosynthetic rate. The effect of nitrogen source on clavulanic acid production was investigated in shake flasks. Media containing asparagine plus one of several different amino acids or a combination of two amino acids was tested. The best result, ca. 180 mg/L clavulanic acid, CA, in 60 h, was obtained with the lysine-tyrosine pair In an aerated and agitated fermentor this medium led to CA concentrations of ca. 210 mg/L, a remarkable production for synthetic medium utilization. Amino acids analysis during cultivation indicated that, while asparagine was consumed rapidly, lysine and tyrosine were metabolized slowly, promoting CA production.
