William Brattle's testimony against Nathan Prince, Nov. 27, 1741

Brattle claims to have heard Prince say, in regard to Henry Flynt, that "he hop'd to have an opportunity to stomp upon his grave" and that fellow Tutor Daniel Rogers was "a Cursed Fellow, Ignoramus, Blockhead, and that he was not fit to be admitted a freshman."

"Prince's Defence of himself before the Overseers" is written on the cover in ink. "Papers relating to Mr. Prince's iniquities" is written in pencil, in a different hand. This volume, similar to the one in folder 9, records at great length Prince's responses to the accusations against him.

Letter from Nathan Prince to Edward Holyoke, Feb. 22, 1741/2

In this letter, Prince informs Holyoke of his desire to appeal the Board of Overseers' decision to dismiss him. Prince also asserts his belief that, until his appeal is considered, he should continue to perform his duties as Tutor and that the Corporation has no legal authority to fill a vacancy which does not exist.

Half-page letter from Samuel Russell to Treasurer Ebenezer Storer informing him that the sloop Cyrus has been sold and requesting a bill of sale.

Bond of Samuel Shapleigh to Ebenezer Bradish, July 1, 1793

Although it is known that Bradish was a tavern keeper in Cambridge, the circumstances precipitating this bond are unclear. Shapleigh's name has been cut out from the bottom of the document. It was "signed, sealed and delivered" in the presence of John Warland and Raham Richardson. Annotations on the verso indicate payments made in 1795 and 1796.

Lectures on Hebrew and Oriental Literature, delivered in Harvard College between the years 1765 and 1782, by Stephen Sewall, AM, AAS Hancock Professor, Volume 1 1765-1767

The volume contains handwritten copies of lectures delivered by Sewall to students, an 1780 letter from Antoine Court de Gébelin written in French and glued into the front inside cover, a preface to the set of lectures, an autobiographical sketch of Sewall, and the statutes governing the Hancock Professorship of Hebrew and other Oriental Languages.

This catalog contains suggested purchases to be made with book purchasing funds provided by John Hancock. Verso reads: "At a meeting of the President & Fellows of Harvard College – Voted that the above catalogue prepared by the Committee be accepted [signed] Edward Holyoke Presdt."

The second volume of the College Papers contains original documents dating from 1764 to 1785, spanning the tenures of presidents Edward Holyoke, Samuel Locke, Samuel Langdon, acting president Edward Wigglesworth, and Joseph Willard, as well as treasurers Thomas Hubbard, John Hancock, and Ebenezer Storer. It also contains a document from 1793.

The seventh volume of the College Papers contains original documents dating from 1811 to 1815, spanning the tenures of president John Thornton Kirkland and treasurer John Davis. Much of the volume consists of general administrative correspondence exchanged between Kirkland and Davis. It also contains one document from 1819.
