An important problem faced by the oil industry is to distribute multiple oil products through pipelines. Distribution is done in a network composed of refineries (source nodes), storage parks (intermediate nodes), and terminals (demand nodes) interconnected by a set of pipelines transporting oil and derivatives between adjacent areas. Constraints related to storage limits, delivery time, sources availability, sending and receiving limits, among others, must be satisfied. Some researchers deal with this problem under a discrete viewpoint in which the flow in the network is seen as batches sending. Usually, there is no separation device between batches of different products and the losses due to interfaces may be significant. Minimizing delivery time is a typical objective adopted by engineers when scheduling products sending in pipeline networks. However, costs incurred due to losses in interfaces cannot be disregarded. The cost also depends on pumping expenses, which are mostly due to the electricity cost. Since industrial electricity tariff varies over the day, pumping at different time periods have different cost. This work presents an experimental investigation of computational methods designed to deal with the problem of distributing oil derivatives in networks considering three minimization objectives simultaneously: delivery time, losses due to interfaces and electricity cost. The problem is NP-hard and is addressed with hybrid evolutionary algorithms. Hybridizations are mainly focused on Transgenetic Algorithms and classical multi-objective evolutionary algorithm architectures such as MOEA/D, NSGA2 and SPEA2. Three architectures named MOTA/D, NSTA and SPETA are applied to the problem. An experimental study compares the algorithms on thirty test cases. To analyse the results obtained with the algorithms Pareto-compliant quality indicators are used and the significance of the results evaluated with non-parametric statistical tests.

The investments of Caixas and Institutos de Aposentadoria e Pensões (CAP and IAP) in homes of Natal, between the decades of 1930-60, helped to boost up the local real estate market in consolidation at the time. Inserted in the first national policy on social housing in the country, these operations have demanded the creation of a wide qualified organizational structure, which would be from the "Central Offices" of Rio de Janeiro to the decentralized units of the federal states. The professionals linked to the Local Agencies have developed, on this matter, from activities related to the design and construction of residential complexes, to the daily study of financing proposals in isolated units. As from these studies, the evaluation of shelters was essential to the effectiveness of the policy, resulting in the production of data on the market value of the properties by observing and issuing judgments upon the living quarters of different social groups. Given these considerations, the aim here is to contribute to the understanding on how to operate these real estate actions in the legitimization of boundaries about the urban space and dwellings available to workers in Natal. Therefore, the views of the city and constructions expressed by the evaluating engineers in their technical reports have been taken as the focus. Being the main primary sources of work, these reports are part of the edifices process of CAP/IAP regarding Natal, whose content is systematized in the database "Enterprises", the HCUrb Research Group. In addition, there were used local newspapers at the time and interviews with professionals as complementary sources. It was found that, in general, the evaluations have configured – in a more everyday dimension of bureaucratic routines - a vehicle, among others, circulating ideas about "home" within the social security institutions, being imbued with assumptions historically constructed about the "modern habitat". Filled in loco, the reports expose the clash between modernizing ideals in vogue and clear limitations in the city scenario at the time. Fragmented images of the town are given to read through the labels assigned to the evaluated sites – these being coated of certain "scientific" character - which both legitimated and contributed to the dynamics of appreciation/depreciation of the soil and to the socio-spatial differentiation. Contradictions were evident in the endorsement given by the technicians when financing of admittedly precarious homes for insured disadvantaged categories at the local level - such as industrial workers - while strict regulations were imposed to new construction, designed, above all, to better paid categories. By identifying raters engineers as urban agents, members of a technical-focused operating system for safety and efficiency in the real estate investments of those authorities corporatist, it is desired the usefulness of further studies on these characters, their training, professional activity and participation in the construction of discourses and practices of intervention about the city and its buildings, discussing individual and grouped interests that were left behind.

Since the creation of supersonic vehicles, during the Second World War, the engineers have given special attention to the interaction between the aerodynamic efforts and the structures of the aircrafts due to a highly destructive phenomenon called flutter in aeronautical panel. Flutter in aeronautical panels is a self-excited aeroelastic phenomenon, which can occurs during supersonic flights due to dynamic instability of inertia, elastic and aerodynamic forces of the system. In the flutter condition, when the critical aerodynamic pressure is reached, the vibration amplitudes of the panel become dynamically unstable and increase exponentially with time, affecting significantly the fatigue life of the existing aeronautical components. Thus, in this paper, the interest is to investigate the possibility of reducing the effects of the supersonic aeroelastic instability of rectangular plates by applying passive constrained viscoelastic layers. The rationale for such study is the fact that as the addition of viscoelastic materials provides decreased vibration amplitudes it becomes important to quantify the suppression of plate flutter coalescence modes that can be obtained. Moreover, despite the fact that much research on the suppression of panel flutter has been carried out by using passive, semi-active and active control techniques, very few of them are adapted to deal with the problem of estimating the flutter speeds of viscoelastic systems, since they must conveniently account for the frequency- and temperature-dependent behavior of the viscoelastic material. In this context, two different model of viscoelastic material are developed and applied to the model of sandwich plate by using finite elements. After the presentation of the theoretical foundations of the methodology, the description of a numerical study on the flutter analysis of a three-layer sandwich plate is addressed.

Este trabalho dedica-se a examinar as principais mudanças que ocorrem no processo de construção da notícia nos telejornais regionais paulistas na última década. Objetivamos o estudo das tecnologias digitais conectadas e as consequentes alterações no trabalho dos profissionais envolvidos jornalistas, técnicos e engenheiros, a fim de entender os novos formatos aplicados na transmissão de conteúdo contando com o auxílio da internet. Para tanto, realizamos um estudo comparativo com duas emissoras da Região Metropolitana do Vale do Paraíba: TV Vanguarda, afiliada a Rede Globo, e a Tv Band Vale filiada ao Grupo Bandeirantes, que passaram por transformações em todas as dimensões da difusão de notícias com a digitalização dos seus processos tecnológicos e investimentos no ambiente virtual. Por meio da técnica de pesquisa observação participante chegou-se a conclusão de que a tecnologia é uma realidade adotada nas emissoras contribuindo para agilizar os trabalhos nas redações e aproximar o público dos telejornais.

The aim of this study was to understand how does the teaching learning process of the agronomy professor from Universidade Federal de Uberlândia occurs, analyzing the relationship among training, knowledge and these professors professional identity. The questions which guided the research were: How does the professional identity of these professors are developed in the teaching learning process? Which are the main formation factors that influences this process? Which are the agronomy professors knowledge and how were them built and learned by these professionals in college? This is a research with a qualitative approach, in which most of the data was collected with the professors, through two questionnaires, a simplified and an in-depth one, as well as documents that depict the history of the institute and of the Agronomy department. To guide analysis, we have used, more than the scientific production in the area, the authors Cunha (2008), Tardif (2002), Pimenta (2005), Melo (2009, 2012), Malusá (2005), Pachane (2009), Magalhães (2012), Dubar (2005), Imbernón (2002),Nunez andRamalho (2008), Almeida andPimenta (2012) PimentaandAnastasiou (2002), Cavallet (1999) Pachane (2006), Behrens (2007) Isaia (2008), Malusá (2012) and Nóvoa (1999). The analysis indicated that the teaching learning process of the agronomy professor occurs since college, with the option of been a professor, and throughout their teaching career. Their challenges are related to work conditions, although, the dilemmas between the practices related to the conceptions of traditional and progressive pedagogy can be seen in their class, teaching and teaching learning process conception. Classes are considered by professors as an interaction place but also as a knowledge transference place. This research identifies the necessity of promote cooperation between teachers, so that, the collective and integrated work in formative spaces teachers will have the opportunity to develop the knowledge necessary for teaching. The implementation of institutional initial and continuous formation, through direct dialogue between undergraduate, graduate and training and professional development programs for teachers, with better work conditions will reflect in the constant improvement of training development within universities.

A Moda será talvez o dispositivo que melhor consegue transportar o que é a Modernidade, ilustrando o imaginário humano sempre em devir. Em paralelo com a perspetiva humanística, na sua abordagem, têm de se equacionar questões de técnica e, forçosamente, todo um ecossistema cultural. O sistema atual da Moda e do vestuário culmina visivelmente nos progressos atuais da tecnologia e tensões presentes nas principais áreas científicas, de que é expressão o fenómeno da obsolescência. É neste campo operativo, sistema complexo, maduro nos seus equilíbrios e paradigmas, mas também, contradições e colapsos, que se levantam problemas particulares e transversais a outros setores. A UNESCO e outras influentes instituições internacionais preconizam a sustentabilidade e assumem o seu compromisso com o desenvolvimento sustentável. Neste enquadramento, enfrentam-se questões de nível global como a sustentabilidade e a(s) crise(s) dos modelos económicos prevalecentes no Ocidente contemporâneo. Relativamente às prioridades definidas na planificação de projetos no setor da Moda, do têxtil e do vestuário, quando nos circunscrevemos ao território português, urgia realizar-se uma investigação com o objetivo de entender as relações entre as entidades, atores e instituições ativas neste campo. A intenção é aferir possibilidades de Gestão Cultural, partindo de três questões charneiras. Qual o entendimento da sustentabilidade por parte desses intervenientes? Que pontos fracos e oportunidades caracterizam o sistema? Como é que toda esta problematologia se comporta enquanto rede? Em conformidade com o desígnio supra, a metodologia usada para resolver os objetivos consistiu numa conjugação de métodos e de técnicas que atingem atores representativos, graças a um acesso privilegiado ao setor. Concretizou-se uma análise qualitativa através da técnica da entrevista livre acompanhada de guião premeditando desvios, acrescida de duas discussões com grupos focais, dois estágios de observação participativa, a participação em duas conferências e ainda em duas ações de formação. Paralelamente trabalhou-se na divulgação de um inquérito online visando a recolha de dados quantitativos que ajudaram a validar as interpretações da análise qualitativa. O corpus foi dividido em três grupos: o primeiro para a esfera da decisão, o segundo relativo à dos Tecnólogos e o terceiro para a dos Criativos, todos representados num estudo comparativo através de gráficos dimensionais Radar. Observou-se que os atores dos três grupos estão geralmente isolados na sua especificidade. Numa síntese possível, os Criativos aspiram a mais poder, os Engenheiros reconhecem o seu défice de originalidade e os Decisores revelam-se afastados do quotidiano social. Para a Gestão Cultural, abordagem teórico-prático relativamente recente no panorama atual, é crucial reconhecer-se territórios para a sua ação. Assim, nesta investigação, individualizaram-se terrenos concretos onde a Gestão Cultural poderá desenvolver a sua interpretação numa visão pluralista e holística – um ecumenismo cultural – necessária e importante para o ativar ou reativar compromissos no seio do dispositivo da Moda, isto é, novos modos de fazeres e de seres desta dinâmica social. O presente estudo diz respeito a um setor específico e ao caso português, podendo, no entanto, a metodologia desta investigação ser adaptada a qualquer outro âmbito cultural. Aspira-se, em última análise, a uma reversão de comportamentos consuetudinários num setor essencial da economia portuguesa: parar de fazer para melhor projetar e gerir processos, equipamentos e recursos.

Os perfis enformados a frio estão em crescente uso na indústria da construção, utilizados como estruturas secundárias e primárias, por apresentar resistência em relação ao baixo peso, facilidade de utilização em obra e sustentabilidade. A norma europeia EN1993-1-3, também adotada em Portugal, que apresenta as especificações normativas sobre o uso estrutural de perfis enformados a frio é de difícil aplicação para os projetistas devido à quantidade e complexidade de cálculos para que sejam efetuadas as verificações de segurança necessárias, pelas limitações dos programas informáticos e complexidade de compreensão dos fenómenos da instabilidade local e distorcional que condicionam o comportamento deste tipo de secções, classificadas como de classe 4. O presente trabalho procura explicar os procedimentos do eurocódigo e os seus aspetos mais controversos, como, por exemplo, o processo de cálculo da distribuição de tensões numa secção arbitrária constituída por segmentos retos, o cálculo de larguras efetivas e espessuras reduzidas e as verificações de segurança em termos de resistência e estabilidade global requeridos pela norma. O principal objetivo deste trabalho é o desenvolvimento um programa de cálculo para verificar barras com secções de classe 4 que tenha a abrangência das especificações do Eurocódigo (EC3-1-3), que possa auxiliar engenheiros no processo de projeto, dimensionamento e verificação regulamentar de estruturas metálicas que utilizem este tipo de secções. Para isso foi criada uma aplicação informática, em ambiente Windows®, que está ligada ao programa Autodesk® Robot Structural Analisys® para obtenção de dados de cálculo e executar os cálculos de secções efetivas e verificações de segurança de acordo com a norma europeia. São apresentados diagramas de blocos com a sequência do procedimento de cálculo das várias fases de cálculo de secções efetivas e de verificação de barras, com vista a mostrar a lógica de funcionamento interno da aplicação criada no âmbito deste trabalho. Por fim desenvolve-se um manual de utilização da aplicação e um exemplo comparativo, de cálculo das propriedades efetivas de uma secção, entre os resultados do programa e documentos de referência com cálculos manuais

The transformations economical, cultural and social that happen in world ambit they are associated to the intense progress and expansion of new technologies, forcing governments, people, companies and nations to the introduction of new patterns of behavior, forcing, in that way, to the continuous renewal of products and technological processes to maintain the competitiveness, so much among nations, as in the managerial world. In that matter, the technological innovation is recognized as basic factor of maintainable economical competitiveness, being the responsible for the breaking and/or improvement of the techniques and production processes, what presupposes the systematization varied institutional arrangements that they involve firms, interaction nets among companies, government agencies, universities, research institutes, laboratories of companies and scientists and engineers activities. Those arrangements, to the if they articulate with the educational system, with the industrial and managerial section and, also, with the financial institutions, they take the form that Freeman (1987) it coined of national system of innovation, promoted through public politics of CT&I, which seek to induce and to support innovative initiatives in the companies, as well as to establish demands and to prioritize vocations and regional potentialities. In that context of government support to the technological innovation interferes this study, that it looked for to know the reasons of the fragility innovative in the pharmaceutical industry of State of Pará in Brazil, pointed for PINTEC (2005), starting from the point of view of the businessmen of that section. For such, the qualitative approach was used - with interviews directing semi and the technique of the content analysis. The results of the research pointed that the fragilities innovative of the section links to the ignorance of the government support to the technological innovation on the part of the businessmen of the pharmaceutical industry of State of Pará in Brazil

O Conselho Científico do Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL) dá a conhecer o trabalho científico desenvolvido por esta instituição no ano de 2005 e divulgado em fóruns nacionais e internacionais, através da 5ª edição do Anuário Científico do ISEL. O ISEL tem sabido responder prontamente aos desafios de mudança que as sociedades modernas impõem, a atestá-lo estão a recente formatação de todos os seus cursos ao modelo estabelecido pela Declaração de Bolonha e a criação de novos cursos em áreas emergentes do conhecimento. Uma das maiores preocupações das escolas de engenharia na atualidade diz respeito à escassez de alunos. A algum excesso na oferta de vagas e cursos de engenharia aliam-se a retracção do crescimento da população estudantil e a sua menor apetência por este tipo de formação superior, em especial nas áreas tradicionais. Este problema, que se estende a muitos outros países, faz apelo a uma reorganização do ensino da engenharia no nosso país. Tal reorganização terá de ser feita com rigor, no respeito pelas instituições, baseada em critérios objectivos avaliazadores de competências e procurando a sua complementaridade. O ISEL, consciente de que o cabal aproveitamento das suas competências só é possível no subsistema universitário, optou em 2005, pela sua integração na Universidade de Lisboa (UL). Pensamos que a integração do ISEL na UL, para além de contribuir para a reorganização das escolas de engenharia na área metropolitana de Lisboa, é geradora de novas sinergias, das quais resultará, certamente, um melhor serviço por nós prestado. Estamos convictos de que as opções tomadas são as que melhor servem os interesses do ISEL e do país, continuaremos a fomentar as acções conjuntas com a UL e a dar o nosso melhor contributo à sociedade através da formação de engenheiros qualificados e do incremento das actividades de investigação e desenvolvimento.

As pesquisas e as práticas em inteligência analítica na Engenharia de Software têm crescido nas últimas décadas. As informações contidas em um repositório de software podem auxiliar engenheiros de software em suas atividades durante todas as fases do desenvolvimento de software. O uso da inteligência analítica está ajudando os profissionais da Engenharia de Software a obterem informações relevantes do repositório de software, direcionando-os para melhores tomadas de decisões. Por se tratar de um bem intangível, pode ser difícil compreender as informações geradas pelo software. Este trabalho realizou um mapeamento sistemático da literatura sobre inteligência analítica na Engenharia de Software, o que propiciou a elaboração de um arcabouço conceitual para utilização da inteligência analítica capaz de auxiliar nas atividades da Engenharia de Software. Com a finalidade de validar este arcabouço conceitual, foi construído um protótipo de uma aplicação que analisou dados de um software livre. Tal protótipo foi validado e comentado por um grupo focal formado por desenvolvedores e gestores de projetos de software de uma grande empresa da área de Tecnologia da Informação. Concluiu-se que a inteligência analítica é fortemente utilizada durante a fase de manutenção e vem crescendo sua utilização na área de Gestão e na Prática Profissional. Constatou-se que os commits podem ser bons indicadores da evolução de software e que a ferramenta desenvolvida neste trabalho permite compreender o que está sendo alterado no sistema e por que a alteração ocorreu.

Droughts surfaced in 1877 as a crucial problem for the birthing Brazilian nation. Engineers, who formed the country's technical and scientific elite, took it upon themselves to study, understand and fight the problem through planned actions of intervention on space. This work, based on proposals and discussions contained in engineering magazines and reports, aims to provide elements for the comprehension of how these systematized actions against droughts, in the Iate nineteenth and early twentieth century, contributed to spatial analysis and the formation of a (then-inexistent) regional and territorial planning discipline in Brazi!. Engineers, by taking up the position of masterminds in the country's modernization, guaranteed for themselves personal economic stability, social prestige and political power. By understanding nature, either as a resource to be exploited or an adversary to national progress, they contributed to the delimitation of the region now known as the Northeast. By seeking to understand the drought phenomenon, they created knowledge about the space they sought to intervene on; by constructing their projects amid political and economical difficulty, they changed the organizational structures of cities and country in the northeast. The proposals for açudes (Iarge water reservoirs) allowed the fixation of population and the resistance against droughts; the roads - railroads and automotive roadways - connected the sertão to the capitais and the coast, speeding up help to the affected populations during droughts and allowing the circulation of goods so as to strengthen the local economies in normal rimes. The adopted practices and techniques, adapted from foreign experience and developed through trial and improvement, were consolidated as an eminently spatial intervention course, even if a theoretical body of regional or territorial planning wasn't formed in Brazil. Regional Planning proper was first applied in the country in the Northeast itself, in the 1950s, based off an economical view of reality in order to achieve development. The engineer's work prior tothat date, however, cannot be dlsconsldered. It was proved that, despite facing financial and political hurdles, engineers had a profound commitment to the problem and intended to act systematically to transform the economical and social relations in the region, in order to be victorious in their struggle against droughts

The necessity of the insertion of the capital of Rio Grande do Norte in the world-wide commercial scene and its claim as the seat of political power, in ends of nineteenth and beginning of twentieth century, determined the direction of urban interventions undertaken by government to restructure the city. In that matter, there were several actions of improvements and embellishment in Natal, which had, as a starting point, the adequacy works of the port, located in the Ribeira quarter, with the aim of ending the physical isolation that reinforced its economic stagnation. Besides the problems faced in the opening bar of the Potengi River, and would complement the required improvements, other barriers demonstrate the tension established between the physic-geographic field and the man: the flooded and slope which connected Cidade Alta and Ribeira the first two quarters of the city.The execution of these works demanded knowledge whose domain and application it was for engineering. But, how the actions done for the engineers, in sense to transform natural areas into constructed spaces made possible the intentional conformation of the quarter of the Ribeira in a commercial and politician-administrative center, in the middle of the XIX century and beginning of the XX? Understand, therefore, the employment effects of technology on the physical-geographical Ribeira, is the objective of this work that uses theoretical and methodological procedures of Urban Environmental History, by analyzing the relationship between the environment and the man, mediated by knowledge and use of technologies. The documental research was used, as primary sources, the Messages of the Provincial Assembly Government that later became the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Norte reports and articles on specialized publications, in addition to local newspapers. The work is structured in five chapters. First, some comments about Urban Environmental History (Chapter 1) supplemented with analysis of the conceptual construction of nature in the Contemporary Era and its application in the city (chapter 02), the following chapters (03 and 04) deal with the rise of engineers as a active group in the Brazilian government frameworks and their vision about the nature inside the urban environment and it is studied how the professional technicians dealt with the improvement work of the harbor and in the shock with the natural forces. Other works that would complement this "project" of modernization and had had natural obstacles to be removed the Ribeira flood and slope constitute the subject of the fifth chapter. Finally, some final considerations retake the initial discussions aiming an association between the technique and the nature as junction elements inside the process of constitution of a Modern Natal

Nowadays, wireless communications systems demand for greater mobility and higher data rates. Moreover, the need for spectral efficiency requires the use of non-constant envelope modulation schemes. Hence, power amplifier designers have to build highly efficient, broadband and linear amplifiers. In order to fulfil these strict requirements, the practical Doherty amplifier seems to be the most promising technique. However, due to its complex operation, its nonlinear distortion generation mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Currently, only heuristic interpretations are being used to justify the observed phenomena. Therefore, the main objective of this work is to provide a model capable of describing the Doherty power amplifier nonlinear distortion generation mechanisms, allowing the optimization of its design according to linearity and efficiency criteria. Besides that, this approach will allow a bridge between two different worlds: power amplifier design and digital pre-distortion since the knowledge gathered from the Doherty operation will serve to select the most suitable pre-distortion models.

One of the challenges to biomedical engineers proposed by researchers in neuroscience is brain machine interaction. The nervous system communicates by interpreting electrochemical signals, and implantable circuits make decisions in order to interact with the biological environment. It is well known that Parkinson’s disease is related to a deficit of dopamine (DA). Different methods has been employed to control dopamine concentration like magnetic or electrical stimulators or drugs. In this work was automatically controlled the neurotransmitter concentration since this is not currently employed. To do that, four systems were designed and developed: deep brain stimulation (DBS), transmagnetic stimulation (TMS), Infusion Pump Control (IPC) for drug delivery, and fast scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) (sensing circuits which detect varying concentrations of neurotransmitters like dopamine caused by these stimulations). Some softwares also were developed for data display and analysis in synchronously with current events in the experiments. This allowed the use of infusion pumps and their flexibility is such that DBS or TMS can be used in single mode and other stimulation techniques and combinations like lights, sounds, etc. The developed system allows to control automatically the concentration of DA. The resolution of the system is around 0.4 µmol/L with time correction of concentration adjustable between 1 and 90 seconds. The system allows controlling DA concentrations between 1 and 10 µmol/L, with an error about +/- 0.8 µmol/L. Although designed to control DA concentration, the system can be used to control, the concentration of other substances. It is proposed to continue the closed loop development with FSCV and DBS (or TMS, or infusion) using parkinsonian animals models.

A presente dissertação foi elaborada no âmbito da unidade curricular de DIPRE (Dissertação/Projeto/Estágio), que se encontra no plano de estudos do 2º semestre do 2º ano do Mestrado em Engenharia Civil, no ramo de Construções do Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto. O setor da construção civil é um dos que apresenta maior número de acidentes de trabalho e mortes, no mundo, por isso é de suma importância o estudo da segurança do trabalho nos estaleiros. Após a assinatura do Termo de reciprocidade entre Brasil e Portugal, onde são estabelecidas condições para admissão de engenheiros registrados no sistema Confea na Ordem dos engenheiros de Portugal e a recíproca. O conhecimento das normas de segurança se faz necessário para que o engenheiro advindo de outro país tenha as bases teóricas para a prática de suas atividades, assim as normas de segurança de trabalho do Brasil e Portugal foram analisadas, posteriormente realizado, uma análise comparativa entre elas, com o objetivo de verificar diferenças e propor medidas. Com a análise, foi possível verificar que apesar da grande quantidade de normas sobre segurança no trabalho nos estaleiros de obra, algumas já estão ultrapassadas e em desacordo com as exigências atuais. Embora as normas brasileiras e portuguesas serem similares em alguns pontos específicos elas apresentam exigências e métodos distintos para a mesma situação em análise.
