[Chapman University was founded by members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as Hesperian College in Woodland, Calif., on March 4, 1861. In 1920, the assets of Hesperian College were absorbed by California Christian College, which held classes in downtown Los Angeles. In 1934, the school was renamed after the chairman of its board of trustees (and primary benefactor), C.C. Chapman.]

Welland Canals Society fonds, 1979-1991

The Welland Canals Society was a coalition of business, tourism, heritage, and recreational groups that joined with the Regional Government in 1986 to promote the redevelopment of the Welland Canals Corridor. The mandate of the Society was to provide leadership and assistance to the public and private sectors in achieving heritage-sensitive and tourism/recreation-related economic development in the Welland Canals Corridor. The Society folded in 1991 due to government funding cuts.

Reeves Hall, Chapman College, Orange, California, June, 1979. This historical building (2 floors, 17,862 sq.ft.), completed in 1913 is named in honor of George N. Reeves, president of the university from 1942 to 1956. It is listed in the National Registry for Historical Buildings and houses the Kathleen Muth Reading Center, College of Lifelong Learning, and the School of Education. Originally constructed to serve Orange Union High School, it was designed along with its twin building by Santa Ana architect Frank Eley. Acquired by Chapman College in 1954.
