The performance of a multi-band antenna consisting of a microstrip patch with two U-slots is designed and tested for use in aircraft cabin wireless access points. The objective of this paper is to evaluate this antenna that covers most of the current wireless bands from 1.7GHz to 5.85GHz.A specially designed wideband probe antenna is used for characterization
of field radiated from this antenna. This measurement setup gives room for future development like human presence in the cabin, the fading effects, and the path loss between transmitter and receiver.

This study reports the performance of an Archimedean spiral antenna, which exhibits unidirectional circularly polarized radiation patterns with a peak gain >8 dBic in the lower (2.4–2.485 GHz) and upper (5.15–5.35 and 5.725–5.875 GHz) Wireless local area network frequency bands. The required backlobe suppression and impedance match are obtained by placing a multiresonant high impedance surface (HIS) in close proximity to the radiating aperture. Simulated and measured radiation patterns are shown at the center frequency of all three channels and a comparison of the key performance metrics is made with free space and metal backed antenna arrangements to demonstrate the enhancements which are attributed to the HIS reflector.

The paper proposes novel substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slot antenna for E-band communications. The antenna is designed at a two-layer low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) substrate in 71-76 GHz frequency band. The proposed antenna demonstrates a gain better than 11.3 dBi and efficiency of 85% and can be used as a standalone antenna or as an element of a larger array.

Retrodirective, self-steering, antennas have the advantage of being able to automatically return a signal back in the direction along from which it originated. The tracking is real time and is carried out in the analogue domain which results in simple circuits which can be accommodated, planar-form, behind the antenna elements. The main objective of this paper is to detail the continuation of the work on L band retrodirective antennas which has the ambition of increasing the TRL such that a minimal viable product can be produced, suitable for type approval as an L band SATCOM user terminal. The focus will be the technical challenges that have arisen as the retrodirective antenna is moved up the TRL chain. Some of these aspects include the ability to track very weak modulated signals (S/N tending to 0dB), TX/RX filter and duplexer specifications, PA and LNA considerations. The resultant retrodirective architecture will be compared against typical specifications of L band satellite ground terminals, showing that the retrodirective antenna offers a simple and effective real time tracking antenna architecture.

A compact highly linear microstrip dual-mode electronically switchable filter is presented. The key characteristics of the dual-mode switchable filter are investigated and described. A second order filter design procedure is outlined to facilitate the realisation of Butterworth and Chebyshev functions. The proposed filter was built and tested with NXP pin diode model BAP65-03. The measured and simulated results are in good agreement. The measured insertion loss in the ON state was 3.0 dB the isolation in the OFF state was 45 dB at the centre frequency. An evaluation of filter distortion is presented for digitally modulated 16 QAM and QPSK signals.

This paper proposes a possible implementation of a compact printed monopole antenna, useful to operate in UMTS and WLAN bands. In order to accomplish that, a miniaturization technique based on the application of chip inductors is used in conjunction with frequency reconfiguration capability. The chip inductors change the impedance response of the monopole, allowing to reduce the resonant frequency. In order to be able to operate the antenna in these two different frequencies, an antenna reconfiguration technique based on PIN diodes is applied. This procedure allows the change of the active form of the antenna leading to a shift in the resonant frequency. The prototype measurements show good agreement with the simulation results.

A new microstrip antenna geometry with considerable reduction in size, with similar radiation characteristics to those of an equivalent rectangular patch antenna is proposed. A relationship has been suggested for fmding out the resonant frequency of the new geometry, and its validity has been established by the experimental results. Without increasing the aperture area, this geometry also offers a facility for considerably reducing the resonant frequency compared to conventional patches.

A new compact micro strip antenna element is analyzed. The analysis can accurately predict the resonant frequency, input impedance, and radiation patterns. The predicted results are compared with experimental results and excellent agreement is observed . These antenna elements are more suitable in applications where limited antenna real estate is available

A novel dual frequency dual-polarized square microstrip patch antenna embedded with a slot is presented. The proposed antenna offers tunability of the frequency ratio between the two frequencies by adjusting the slot dimensions. This configuration also provides a size reduction up to -51 and 35% for the two modes as compared to a square micro strip patch antenna

A broadband rectangular tnicrostrip antenna utilizing an electromagnetically coupled L-strip feed is presented. Experimental study shows a 2:1 VSWR bandwidth of a 10% and excellent cross-polarization performance with a radiation coverage almost as same as that of the rectangular microstrip antenna fed by conventional methods. The variation of bandwidth for different feed parameters is also studied. The proposed antenna is suitable for broadband communications
