The Culture of crambe became promising since its grains presents high oil content. The methods of drying may influence the quality of crude oil extracted from the beans, depending on the way it is managed. This study goal was to evaluate the influence of different drying methods on the quality of the crude oil extracted from crambe grain. The experimental design was completely randomized with five treatments (drying with heated air, natural air, yard, shade, and at the field), and with four tests for each. In order to check the quality of the grains, we performed an analysis of fat acidity, and to evaluate the crude oil quality, we conducted analysis of iodine value, acid value, water content, density at 20ºC, and a kinematic viscosity at 40°. After obtaining the data, the results were submitted to analysis of variance. When significant means were detected, they were compared by t-test (p ≤ 0.05). The method of drying with heated air provided a lower rate of fatty acid in grains. The drying methods evaluated did not compromise the quality of the oil extracted from the crambe grain.

Diabetic patients with and without peripheral neuropathy reveal different hip and ankle biomechanical strategies during stair descent

Background: The progression of diabetes and the challenge of daily tasks may result in changes in biomechanical strategies. Descending stairs is a common task that patients have to deal with, however it still has not been properly studied in this population. Objectives: We describe and compare the net joint moments and kinematics of the lower limbs in diabetic individuals with and without peripheral neuropathy and healthy controls during stair descent. Method: Forty-two adults were assessed: control group (13), diabetic group (14), and neuropathic diabetic group (15). The flexor and extensor net moment peaks and joint angles of the hip, knee, and ankle were described and compared in terms of effect size and ANOVAs (p<0.05). Results: Both diabetic groups presented greater dorsiflexion [large effect size] and a smaller hip extensor moment [large effect size] in the weight acceptance phase. In the propulsion phase, diabetics with and without neuropathy showed a greater hip flexor moment [large effect size] and smaller ankle extension [large effect size]. Conclusion: Diabetic patients, even without neuropathy, revealed poor eccentric control in the weight acceptance phase, and in the propulsion phase, they showed a different hip strategy, where they chose to take the leg off the ground using more flexion torque at the hip instead of using a proper ankle extension function.

Comparação do sinal EMG e das características da passada em diferentes protocolos de corrida incremental

O objetivo do presente estudo foi comparar o sinal eletromiográfi co, a frequência e a amplitude de passada entre diferentes intensidades de corrida: 60%, 80% e 100% da velocidade máxima em dois protocolos incrementais. Participaram deste estudo 11 corredores do sexo masculino. Os protocolos de corrida foram realizados com velocidades iniciais de 10 km.hr-1, com incrementos de 1 km.hr-1 a cada três minutos até a exaustão, que diferiram em relação ao intervalo entre cada estágio incremental: 30 e 120 segundos. Foram analisados valores RMS dos músculos iliocostal lombar, reto femoral, vasto lateral, vasto medial, bíceps femoral, tibial anterior, e gastrocnêmio, e a amplitude e frequência de passada. Os valores RMS mostraram aumento entre as intensidades para quase todos os músculos, e não foram influenciados pelo tipo de protocolo utilizado para maioria dos músculos. A frequência e amplitude de passada apresentaram contribuições percentuais diferenciadas para o aumento da velocidade de corrida.

Trigonometric parallaxes in the TW Hydrae Association

We have conducted a program of trigonometric distance measurements to 13 members of the TW Hydrae Association (TWA), which will enable us (through back-tracking methods) to derive a convincing estimate of the age of the association, independent of stellar evolutionary models. With age, distance, and luminosity known for an ensemble of TWA stars and brown dwarfs, models of early stellar evolution (which are still uncertain for young ages and substellar masses) will then be constrained by observations over a wide range of masses (0.025 to 0.7 M⊙).

Kinematic distances of pre-main-sequence stars in the Lupus star-forming region

To reliably determine the main physical parameters (masses and ages) of young stars, we must know their distances. While the average distance to nearby star-forming regions (<300 pc) is often known, the distances to individual stars are usually unknown. Individual distances to members of young moving groups can be derived from their radial velocities and proper motions using the convergent-point strategy. We investigate the kinematic properties of the Lupus moving group with the primary objective of deriving individual distances to all group members.

Advances in the study of soil-structure interaction effects on the dynamic response of piled structures

[EN]This Ph. D. thesis presents a simple and stable procedure for the estimation of periods and dampings of pile shear buildings taking soil-structure interaction into account. The coupled-system response is obtained by using a substructuring model. A boundary element-finite element coupling formulation is used to compute impedances and kinematic interaction factors of the pile group configurations under investigation. The proposed procedure is applied to perform parametric analyses to determine the influence of the main parameters of soil-structure interaction problems on the dynamic response of the superstructure. The scope of this thesis also encompasses the study of foundations including battered piles.

Se abordará la película Nosilatiaj. La belleza (2012) de la directora argentina Daniela Seggiaro. Punto de partida es la premisa planteada por numerosas teóricas feministas acerca de la producción de un cine capaz de superar el fuerte carácter normativizador de lo que Teresa De Lauretis describe como una "tecnología de género". La historia de Yolanda, la adolescente Wichí que vive como criada en la casa de una familia criolla, se desdobla en dos planos que parecen trenzarse y que aportan la reconstrucción de una subjetividad configurada en tanto que otredad. Para el análisis se recurrirá al trabajo realizado por Britta Sjogren acerca de la voz femenina. Sjogren sostiene que la voz sirve a la construcción de un sujeto a partir de la consideración de subjetividades múltiples. A través del uso de la voz en off es posible trabajar otro tipo de agenciamiento femenino dentro de la pantalla, por su carácter de superador de este marco constreñido. Invita entonces a conceptualizar el deseo en la relación cinemática, como ligado a otras instancias más allá de la visión o de la imagen. Y la plasmación del deseo femenino es lo que Claire Johnston consideraba esencial en la producción de un "contra-cine"

Tecnología y secularización en algunos relatos de Horacio Quiroga

La construcción imaginaria y compositiva de Horacio Quiroga da cuenta de una zona imaginaria en pleno desarrollo, inaugurada por magazines ilustrados y folletines sentimentales de los años veinte y se perpetuará en las narraciones sentimentales del primer cine de Hollywood. Este trabajo analizará algunas notas sobre cine y relatos escritos por Quiroga en los que se construye la perspectiva de un espectador típico de los años veinte; asimismo, se considerará la imaginación cinemática de Quiroga -que, por cierto, será la que comparta con otros escritores latinoamericanos que también escribieron sobre el cine de Hollywood de 1920- como un espacio expresivo de lectura por medio del cual la imagen procede de una toma de conciencia de un yo con respecto a otro (lenguaje acerca del otro), de un aquí con respecto a un allá y que remite obviamente a una realidad a la que designa y confiere significación -intervenida por nuevos actores y nuevos modos de lectura de los años veinte-, así como también consigna un criterio de tecnología visual como sinécdoque de la modernidad, la que paradójicamente es deseada y temida a la vez
