Some novel ferrocenylphosphine-amidine ligands with central and planar chirality were prepared from (R,S-p)-PPFNH2-R 3 and its diastereomer (S,S-p)-PPFNH2 3a. The efficiency and diastereomeric impact of these ferrocenylphosphine-amidine ligands in the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic substitution was examined, and up to 96% e.e. with 98% yield was achieved by the use of ligand (R,S-p)-4a with a methyl group in the amidino moiety. The results also indicated that (R)-central chirality and (S-p)-planar chirality in these ferrocenylphosphine-amidine ligands were matched for the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation. Structural probing of D-fructose derived ligands for asymmetric addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes
Resumo:
A series of new chiral ligands derived from D-fructose have been synthesized and applied in the enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes. Comparison of the enantioselectivities obtained with these ligands demonstrated that the catalytic properties are highly dependent upon the structure of ligands, a rational explanation of the structural effects on the catalytic properties is provided. Asymmetric cyclopropanation of olefins was carried out with chiral copper-Schiff base complexes derived from copper acetate monohydrate, substituted salicylaldehydes and a chiral amino alcohol. Substituents on salicylaldehyde framework demonstrate a significant effect on the steroselectivities. Those with electron-withdrawing properties enhance the selectivities, whereas bulky sustituents in ortho position to the phenol hydroxy group decrease the selectivities. An ee of more than 98% was achieved for the reaction of styrene with diazoacetate. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Schiff base compounds refer to the branch of supra-molecules and can be used as sensing material in the construction of potentiometric ion selective electrodes (ISEs). This relatively modern field has been subject to extensive research in the period of 1999-2007 when more than 100 ISEs employing Schiff bases were constructed. The quantitative high-throughput detection of 29 cations and 7 anions has been demonstrated in various scientific branches, such as biomedicine, pharmacy, biochemistry, pharmacology, environmental chemistry, food technology, and agriculture. This review discusses Schiff base compounds and their applications in the design and development of ion selective sensors and microsensors.

A series Of pyrrolidine-triazole based dendritic catalysts have been synthesized and applied directly in the asymmetric Michael addition of ketones to nitroolefins without the use of an organic solvent. Good yields (up to 99%), and high diastereoselectivities (up to syn/anti = 45:1) and enantioselectivities (up to 95% ee) have been obtained. Furthermore. the third generation catalyst can be reused at least five times without significant loss of catalytic activity. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Branched polystyrenes with abundant pendant vinyl functional groups were prepared via radical polymerization of an asymmetric divinyl monomer, which possesses a higher reactive styryl and a lower reactive butenyl. Employing a fast reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) equilibrium, the concentration of active propagation chains remained at a low value and thus crosslinking did not occur until a high level of monomer conversion. The combination of a higher reaction temperature (120 degrees C) and RAFT agent cumyl dithiobenzoate was demonstrated to be optimal for providing both a more highly branched architecture and a higher polymer yield.

Chiral ligand 2-(2'-piperidinyl)pyridine 1 has been synthesized in good overall yield by sequential benzylation, hydrogenation and debenzylation of 2,2'-bipyridine. Its enantiomerically pure enantiomers have been obtained by resolution of 2-(1-benzyl-2-piperidinyl)pyridine 2 with D-tartaric acid (or L-tartaric acid) followed by debenzylation. The absolute configuration was determined by X-ray analysis of the (S)-2 D-tartrate. It was demonstrated that I can be used as an effective enantioselective catalyst in the addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes.

The evolution of morphologies of isothermally crystallized thin films with different thicknesses of poly(L-lactide-bethylene oxide) diblock copolymer was observed by optical microscopy (OM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Dendritic superstructures stacked with lamellae were investigated in thin films with similar to 200 nm to similar to 400 nm thickness. The lamellar structure was a lozenge- or truncated-lozenge-shaped single crystal of PLLA confirmed by AFM observations. The contour of the dendritic superstructures is hexagonal, and two types of sectors, [110] and [100], can be classified in terms of the chain-folding and crystal growth directions. These phenomena Are due to the interplay of the crystallization of the PLLA block, the microphase separation of the block copolymer, and the effect of the film thickness.
