Discrimination, in its best form, is a hard concept to fathom as an employee or ordinary citizen. In the workplace, there are times when discrimination is necessary due to extenuating circumstances that revolve around the form or act of discrimination. It could be conveyed to save a life or avoid future conflict. However, it must be clearly stated as a written law that the act is lawful. When unlawful discrimination occurs, it stages an entirely different tone, as it is mainly conducted out of malice, hatred, greed, control, or ignorance. Over the last few decades, discrimination has existed in the workplace, although Federal laws mandate that it does not occur. It does not exist in just one geographical area or is country specific, but covers a wide spectrum, linking countries together from their points of view to creating rifts amongst those who are affected and those who are not, not only from a business perspective, but social humanistic relationships as well. This thesis will use quantitative and qualitative data to support discrimination of sexual harassment, race or color, and gender issues, as well as personal experiences, and how it has and will continue to impact businesses if the acts do not cease, permanently. Leadership, from the Presidents and Heads of Countries, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), managers, lowest-ranking supervisor, and employees should make it their personal goal to ensure these issues do not continue or arise in their perspective areas of responsibilities. When employees understand that they are valued, will be taken seriously when reporting acts of discrimination, and that some form of action will be taken, performance and productivity will escalate, and morale will increase in the workplace, resulting in higher productivity and subsequently higher profit margins for the company.

Though many of those who decided to report wrongdoings in their organizations were able to tell their stories (e.g. Bamford, 2014, Armenakis 2004), it is fair to say that there is still much left to uncover. The paper aims to contribute to the literature in three ways. First, it provides preliminary evidence that the wrongdoing linked with individual financial loss leads to higher whistleblowing rate. Secondly, it shows how the experience of anger is related to the higher likelihood to report the wrongdoer but only if the wrongful act is perceived as a cause of one’s financial loss. Finally, the paper establishes first steps for the future development of an experimental procedure that would enable to predict, and measure whistleblowing behavior in the lab environment.

A aprovação e posterior regulamentação da Lei 12.305, de 2 de agosto de 2010, que institui a Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos – PNRS estabeleceu necessidades de uma nova articulação entre os três entes federados – União, Estados e Municípios – o setor produtivo e a sociedade em geral na busca de soluções para os problemas atuais na gestão de resíduos sólidos. Baseada principalmente no conceito de responsabilidade compartilhada, toda a sociedade – cidadãos, setor produtivo, governos e sociedade civil organizada – passa a ser responsável pela gestão dos resíduos sólidos por ela produzidos. Falando especificamente do cidadão, um dos atuais desafios é saber como seu comportamento em relação à separação de resíduos recicláveis no âmbito do seu domicílio se relaciona com os objetivos e metas de reciclagem do município. Considerou-se uma amostra (N=310) de residentes em domicílios do Rio de Janeiro, e os dados coletados foram analisados segundo o modelo ABC de STERN. Os resultados empíricos mostraram que as variáveis associadas ao hábito, às normas sociais diretas e às atitudes afetivas têm peso significativo na predição do modelo do comportamento pró-reciclagem. Como contribuição prática, espera-se que o PMGIRS do Rio de Janeiro possa ser aprimorado, contribuindo para o aumento da participação do cidadão na separação de resíduos recicláveis em seu domicílio, auxiliando os gestores municipais nas decisões necessárias ao cumprimento de objetivos e metas relacionados com a reciclagem na cidade do Rio de Janeiro.

Dengue is currently considered one of the most relevant public health problems worldwide. Studies indicate the surroundings of the houses as the preferred sites for the proliferation of Aedes aegypti. The residential areas are privileged environments for human development and contribute to the formation of the individual s identity and for the establishment of affective, social and cultural bonds. The purpose of this study was to investigate possible links between psychological indicators of pro-environmentalism and conservation status of residential backyards. Data collection was performed in 147 homes and methodological strategy involved the use of interview, the Scale of Ecocentric and Anthropocentric Environmentalism, Scale of Consideration of Future Consequences and a tool for environmental evaluation. It was found that the participants expressed as environmental practices the garbage recycling, besides they had the knowledge of how the transmission of dengue occurs. These residents showed ecofriendly motivated commitment: pro-environmentalist ecocentric and anthropocentric. In evaluating the backyard it was verified that the conservation conditions, in almost half of the homes, appeared as carelessness on the part of residents and those conditions are conducive to the proliferation of Aedes aegypti. The pro-environmentalists and guidance for the future identified by the scales were not associated with the conservation status of the backyards. However, it was found that the trends of reduction and stability of infestation levels are associated with self-reported environmental care. These results can contribute to the discussion and design of new mosquito control actions and practices of education and health information among the population

Embora a escassez de água seja reconhecida como um dos principais problemas mundiais a ser enfrentado pela humanidade, padrões comportamentais ecologicamente insustentáveis ainda persistem. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar determinantes do comportamento pró-ambiental relativo à água, bem como os significados que lhe são atribuídos por alunos do ensino médio do Centro Federal de Educação Tecnológica do Rio Grande do Norte, em Natal. Compuseram a amostra de conveniência 315 estudantes, 146 mulheres e 169 homens, que responderam a um questionário sobre uso e percepção da água, contendo também indicadores de pró-ambientalismo, cuidado ambiental, desenvolvimento sustentável, perspectiva temporal, externalidades e coletivismo, além de inquérito sócio-demográfico. Para os participantes, água é sinônimo de vida, muito embora a relação que mantém com ela parece dúbia e, muito mais funcional que ecológica; consideram-na um recurso finito, um patrimônio indispensável à vida, contudo não foi observada coerência entre as concepções manifestadas e os comportamentos auto-relatados de uso da água. Os resultados encontrados apontaram preditores importantes do comportamento pró-ambiental relativo à água: sexo do respondente, Escala Novo Paradigma Ecológico e deixar forma de contato para participar de campanhas futuras. Seja para aprofundamento teórico em novos estudos, seja para auxiliar na elaboração de programas de educação ambiental, que poderiam contribuir para inibir os efeitos de uma cultura de consumo e de uma visão utilitarista da água, ampliando esforços individuais e coletivos para a preservação de bens comuns, como a água. Currently, many companies pay attention to the necessities of change of attitude in relation to the use of the natural resources and the environment quality of its products, mainly to keep a positive and competitive image in the market. This new concept of management associates the productive activities to the care with environment using the education of environment as a tool of programs of qualification directed toward the promotion of pro-environment behaviors. For effectiveness of this management it is essential the attachment of the employees and the major understanding of the importance of the preservation of the environment. This was the objective of the qualification process carried out in a lodge in Fernando de Noronha island. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to verify the power of this management system which fulfills the objectives of the environmental education. It was applied questionnaires to employees of three Inns and carried out a interview, in one Inn, with the participants of the program of qualification. The analysis of the data showed that the actions as care with the environment are strongly associates to the management system, which includes garbage control, as well water economy. It was observed that the environment accomplishment (EcoAntro) of the employees with environment decreases in proportion to their qualification. In the same way, as higher the instruction level, of the speaker and/or of the father, less is the apathy for environmental questions. It was also noticed that the knowledge about the development sustainability was very poorly used by the interviewed. The pro-environment behavior mentioned before, is not necessarily related to a local autonomy posture that could express a behavior related to job but not to environment it self. Therefore, a complete understanding about the reverberation of environment information an all the placed factors in a life stile facing a construction of sustainability remains as a question to be studied in future researches

This work aims to study the effects of adding antioxidants, such as, α- tocopherol and BHT on the thermal and oxidative stability of biodiesel from cottonseed (B100). The Biodiesel was obtained through the methylical and ethylical routes. The main physical and chemical properties of cotton seed oil and the B100 were determined and characterized by FTIR and GC. The study of the efficiency of antioxidants, mentioned above, in concentrations of 200, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000ppm, to thermal and oxidative stability, was achieved by Thermogravimetry (TG), Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Differential Scanning Calorimetry - Hi-Pressure (P-DSC) and Rancimat. The Biodiesel obtained are within the specifications laid down by Resolution of ANP No7/2008. The results of TG curves show that the addition of both antioxidants, even in the lowest concentration, increases the thermal stability of Biodieseis. Through the DTA and DSC it was possible to study the physical and chemical transitions occurred in the process of volatilization and decomposition of the material under study. The initial time (OT) and temperature (Tp) of oxidation were determined through the P-DSC curve and they showed that the α-tocopherol has a pro-oxidant behavior for some high concentrations. The BHT showed better results than the α-tocopherol, with regard to the resistance to oxidation

Using the motivograma and interviews the degree of motivation of the survey participants was defined as satisfactory. On one hand there is satisfaction with the physiological needs, self-esteem and self confidence, on the other there is high dissatisfaction with the association and self-realization, justifying the request for strengthening the membership and performance improvements in the research area. Linking up security and association with the other ones group protection sentiments and work environment dependence sentiments prevail. It was concluded that: (1) Those satisfied ones declare that they are safe, protected and with good self-esteem doing their teaching work. The ones dissatisfied with the non-group belonging demonstrate dissatisfaction with the self-realization and expose their difficulties with social ties and the lack of integration in the teaching work. (3) The degree of motivation satisfactory is related to the satisfaction of basic needs, located in the first steps of Maslow's hierarchy. Accepting that the changes in higher education require motivated behaviors, the question arises: how can the motivation in teaching work be possible if the majority of organizations do not find a way to deal with the person of the Professor? Finally, the context of work is predominant in the provision of job satisfaction in teaching.

Estudos mostram que ao interagir a criança tem a oportunidade de desenvolver suas habilidades sociais. Dentre elas, o comportamento de cuidado se destaca como açoes diversas que se assemelham ao cuidado parental, que têm por objetivo dar suporte físico ou afetivo ao outro a partir de atitudes como ajudar, compartilhar e brincar de cuidar. No caso de crianças que estão vivendo e crescendo em instituições de Abrigo, estudos consideram que devido à sua condição peculiar de vulnerabilidade pessoal e social, elas podem se beneficiar da presença deste comportamento nas interações estabelecidas nesse tipo de ambiente e ou em outros, como o escola. Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar aspectos físicos e sociais do ambiente que concorrem para a manifestação do comportamento de cuidado entre pares observados em suas interações nos pátios da Escola e do Abrigo. Assim como, verificar e analisar características físicas e socioais dos sujeitos que participaram da pesquisa que podem igualmente ter influenciado a manifestação desta modalidade de comportamento pró-social. Participaram do estudo cinco crianças, entre quatro e seis anos, que moravam há mais de um ano no Abrigo e freqüentavam regularmente a Escola. Para a coleta de dados, cada sujeito focal e suas interações com outras crianças foram filmados ao longo de dez sessões de observação, durante cinqüenta minutos, em ambos os ambientes. Ao todo, foram 500 minutos de observação dos participantes da pesquisa. Quanto aos resultados derivados da observação dos sujeitos focais, constatou-se que todos os cinco participantes manifestaram comportamentos de cuidado nos ambientes da pesquisa. Ao todo, foram registrados 43 eventos comportamentais (sendo 26 na Escola e 17 no Abrigo), organizados em torno das seguintes subcategorias: Estabelecer Contato Afetuoso, Ajudar, Brincar de Cuidar e Entreter. A avaliação intragrupal mostrou que não houve diferença estatística na diferença dos percentuais do comportamento de cuidado observados nos pátios da Escola e do Abrigo. Quando se considera para análise o desempenho de uma a uma das categorias do cuidado, percebe-se que o comportamento de Ajudar quando emitido na Escola (n=14; 53.8%) apresentou freqüências maiores que no Abrigo (n=7; 41,2%). Contudo, o Teste Binomial indica que esta diferença não é estatisticamente significativa (p>0,05), sendo semelhantes os percentuais referentes a ações de ajuda em ambos os ambientes. O mesmo constata-se em relação ao comportamento Brincar de Cuidar, que em termos percentuais foi mais presente no Abrigo (n=4; 23.5%) do que na Escola (n= 2;7.7%). Entretanto, a análise estatística aponta que não houve variação estatística significativa entre os ambientes. A descrição da freqüência do comportamento Estabelecer Contato Afetuoso mostra que apresenta uma maior ocorrência na Escola (n=7; 26.9%) do que no Abrigo (n=6 ; 35.3%), porém, o teste mostra que não houve diferença estatística entre as médias quando se compara os ambientes. E por fim, verificou-se que o comportamento Entreter não teve nenhuma ocorrência no Abrigo, tendo sido observado somente no ambiente da Escola (n=3, 11.5%), não sendo possível assim a aplicação do teste estatístico. Os dados mostraram que cada ambiente predominou uma forma de cuidado, devido as características físicas e sociais de cada instituição. Bem como, as características dos participantes (a idade e o tempo de permanência dos sujeitos focais) e o sexo do receptores e o cuidado oferecido.

Thus the aim of this paper is to proposed analyse the influence human relations theory for the process archive management. That methodology will follow the recommendation archive university case study. The data analysis for the current case study follows focus group. The conduct the case study was guided by three phases: Motivational elements, the individual and influence behavior, integration of the formal and informal organization. Employees May Be the Key to Success for O rganizations and develop the conclusions and recommendations portray motivation and a good working environment stood out the factors that employees develop skills and competencies. Organizational behavior that is present in forms of rewards, recognition, social man and informal groups. The nature of research contribute to the process archive management. Development and suggested that the findings of the analysis are applied to a larger structure of archive organization, as well as public archive case study.

Este estudo de interpretação e valoração de paisagens e uma contribuição na área da Geografia para as pesquisas teóricas e aplicadas sobre educação ecológica, tendo a paisagem como ambiente de aprendizagem direcionada e incidental, através de experiências ambientais imediatas, tais como trilhas interpretativas e vivências na Natureza. Estas atividades visam uma estimulação pluri-sensorial, de busca do equilíbrio ecológico e emocional através do estabelecimento de laços afetivos com o meio ambiente, envolvendo o significado do reconectar-se com a Terra. Visa ainda contribuir para processos de sensibilização e conscientização ambiental a partir da visão ecológica, induzindo a mudanças atitudinais no sentido do desenvolvimento de condutas pro-ambientais mais conscienciosas, bem como subsidiar programas e projetos vinculados às políticas públicas direcionadas à conservação e valoração da paisagem natural e cultural.
