The broad spectrum of endectocides and the easy use mode of their pour-on formulations are factors that have stimulated a higher frequency of use these drugs in cattle. In this study was evaluated the efficacy of ivermectin pour-on using the dose of 500mcgkg(-1), against nematodes in naturally infected cattle from different herds. Twelve calves were brought from each of the four farms selected. All the 48 calves used showed mean of eggs per gram of feces (EPG) greater than 500 considering three consecutive counts. Subsequently, animals from each herd were divided into two groups of six animals each, one treated pour-on with ivermectin 500mcgkg(-1) and other kept as untreated control. Calves were euthanized 14 days after treatment for counting the endoparasites. Ivermectin showed null effect against H. placei in all the herds evaluated. The drug was also ineffective against C. punctata in the herds from Jaboticabal, SP and Formiga, MG, and reached efficacy of 75.8% and 58.4% in herds from Sao Jose do Rio Pardo, SP and Sao Sebastiao do Para so, MG, respectively. Efficacies of 94.2% (Jaboticabal), 0.0% (Sao Jose do Rio Pardo), 94.2% (Formiga) and 39.2% (Sao Sebastiao do Para so) were detectedagainstO. radiatum. Based on these results obtained on the present study, the four populations of Haemonchus placei and Cooperia punctata evaluated were resistant to ivermectin pour-on using a dose of 500mcgkg(-1). Ivermectin-resistant strains of Oesophagostomum radiatum were found in two of the four herds evaluated.

The present study aimed to notify the history of albendazole sulphoxide (ALB-SO) and albendazole (ALBZ) efficacy against Taenia saginata cysticercus (Cysticercus bovis) parasitizing experimentally infected bovines. A total of 11 efficacy trials were performed between the years of 2002 and 2010. In order to perform these trials, animals were individually inoculated with 2 x 104 eggs of T. saginata in each study's day zero (DO). For every trial, a positive control group (untreated infected animals) and a negative control group (animals that were neither infected nor treated) were used. ALB-SO or ALB were administered in the different dosages, in different days of treatments. In a last study with this formulation, this active principle was administered orally, mixed with the mineral supplement, on the 60th DPI, in a dosage of 30 mg/kg. In all trials, on the 100th DPI, all animals were euthanized and submitted to the sequenced slicing of 26 anatomical segments (fragments of approximately five millimeters) for the survey of T. saginata cysticercus. With the obtained results it is possible to verify that in the first trials, conducted in 2002, ALB-SO reached, independently of dosage and treatment scheme, efficacies superior to 98% (arithmetic means). The trials conducted in 2005 (2.5 mg/kg on the 30th, 60th, and 90th DPI) obtained values of efficacy all inferior to 60%. In 2008, the trials with 2.5 and 7.7 mg/kg demonstrated efficacy values inferior to 40%, for both dosages and treatment schemes (30th/60th/90th DPI and 60th DPI). When this formulation was administered orally on the dosage of 30 mg/kg on the 60th DPI, the efficacy against T. saginata cysticercus reached 88.28%. ALB administered orally showed efficacy values of 0.0%, 29.88% and 28.64% in the dosages of 5, 10 and 15 mg/kg, respectively, using the treatment schemes described above for each dosage. Based on the results of these trials, conducted in an eight year period (2002-2010) using the sequenced slicing method for evaluating the efficacy of the aforementioned formulations against T. saginata cysticercus, it is possible to observe that, amongst the few molecules used in the chemotherapic treatment against T. saginata larvae, ALB-SO, administered in varied routes, dosages and treatment schemes, the studies conducted in 2008, 2009, and 2010, have a low therapeutic efficacy against C bovis in Brazil, while ALBZ had insignificant efficacy values against T. saginata larvae parasitizing experimentally infected bovines. However, future studies using molecular biology will be necessary to assess whether the difference on the efficacy of the ALB-SO can be related to strain or another specific factor. Paracoccidioides lutzii, formerly known as 'Pb01-like' strains in the P. brasiliensis complex, is proposed as a new species based on phylogenetic and comparative genomics data, recombination analysis, and morphological characteristics. Conidia of P. lutzii are elongated, different from those of P. brasiliensis. P. lutzii occurs in the central and northern regions of Brazil. Studies comparing P. brasiliensis and P. lutzii may have significant clinical consequences for the diagnosis and treatment of paracoccidioidomycosis.

The study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of herbicides in desiccation Raphanus raphanistrum (wild radish) in different application times and their effects on weed seed germination. The experimental had a randomized block design with three replications. The herbicides used were: glyphosate (360; 720; and 1080 g ha(-1)), 2,4-D (335; 670; and 1005 g ha(-1)), glyphosate + 2,4-D (360 + 335; 720 + 670; and 1080 + 1005 g ha(-1)). Spraying was conducted at three different times: 1st season (full bloom) - at 62 days after emergence (DAE), 2nd season (beginning of pod formation) - at 92 DAE and 3rd season (end of pod formation) - at 108 DAE. At 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 days after application (DAA), the desiccation was evaluated visually, and 42 DAA dry mass of shoots and seeds of the 2nd and 3rd times were collected for the test of germination. All chemical treatments tested were effective in controlling the plants of wild radish in the 1st and 2nd times, but in the 3rd time doses of 2,4-D applied singly were not effective and only the highest dose of glyphosate applied singly or in mixture provided a total plant control. In terms of percentage, the reduction in dry matter of plants was higher with the application of larger doses of chemical treatments. The herbicides affected the germination of seeds of wild radish, and the herbicide 2,4-D provided greater reduction in germination in the 2nd and 3rd seasons.

The establishment of pastures in Amazonia is made to replace the woody vegetation by slash and burn process in chemically poor and low available phosphorus soils. The recovery of degraded areas is required and can contribute to reducing deforestation in the region. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of doses of Arad and NPK combinations in the management of maize in soil with low productive capacity. The experiment was conducted in Santo Antonio do Taua, Para State, in an area with degraded pasture, in a dystrophic Oxisol. The experimental design was a randomized block split plot design with four replications. The plots were four phosphate: 50, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha(-1) of P2O5 as Arad and sub-plots combination with NPK, NK, NK liming, and control (no match ). We evaluated the growth characteristics and productivity of corn. Doses of Arad influenced the plant height and number of kernels per row cob. The application of Arad combined with NPK increased grain yield.

The aim of this article is to present some considerations on the contemporary city figurativizations, from the reading of “O Arquiteto”, a Bernardo Carvalho’s short story, published in the anthology “Aberração” (2004). In this short story, the writer retakes the city theme following a modernity tradition, established, among others, by Poe and Baudelaire, making his voice embrace other Brazilian writers voices, that have represented the town, but, at the same time, recreating, in his scripture body, dense and intense, quick and, in some sense, agonic, the utopist projects of renascence ideal cities, questioning the utopias and the aesthetics traces which can be found on the nowadays texts. To enlarge the metalinguistic proposal that emerges from the analysis, some poems by João Cabral de Melo Neto are considered. This comparison allow us to establish parameters to think about influence in certain perspective of contemporary literature, which epicenter configures less the supremacy of the newty and more a aesthetic of deletions of the origins, tracks, traces, which are possible by the canon invention.
