Bathymetry based on data recorded during M52-1 between 02.01.2002 and 01.02.2002 in the Black Sea. The cruise was focused on studying the distribution, structure and architecture of gas hydrate deposits in the Black Sea as well as their relationship to fluid migration pathways. While high-resolution geoacoustic investigation tools covering a whole range of frequencies and techniques render detailed images of near-surface gas hydrates and associated fluid migration pathways.

With the globalization of economic activity, the relative weight of foreign trade in national economic activities has increased, and the question of how to measure trends in the value and quantity of international trade has become an important issue for policy-makers and economists. This paper compares the chain-linked indices formulated by Masato Kuroko, based on HS this fiscal year for individual industry categories and countries with chain-linked indices based on SITC-R1 codes, in order to study how changes in the quality composition of the same products, which cannot be considered using unit value indices based on SITC-R1 codes, can be considered using unit value indices based on the more detailed HS product classifications.

Macrophages become activated by bacterial endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide) and other stimuli to release proinflammatory cytokines and NO. To prevent release of toxic or potentially lethal quantities of these factors, the state of macrophage activation is counter-regulated by anti-inflammatory mediators (e.g., glucocorticoid hormones, interleukin 10, and transforming growth factor type β). Fetuin, a negative acute-phase protein, recently was implicated as an anti-inflammatory mediator, because it is required for macrophage deactivation by spermine. In the present studies, we found that fetuin is necessary for macrophages to respond to CNI-1493, a tetravalent guanylhydrazone inhibitor of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphorylation. Fetuin dose-dependently increases macrophage uptake of CNI-1493, which can be specifically inhibited by anti-human fetuin antibodies. Anti-human fetuin antibodies render primary human peripheral blood mononuclear cells insensitive to deactivation by CNI-1493. Thus, macrophages use fetuin as an opsonin for cationic-deactivating molecules, both endogenous (e.g., spermine) and pharmacologic (e.g., CNI-1493). This role of fetuin as an opsonic participant in macrophage-deactivating mechanisms has implications for understanding and manipulating the innate immune response.

The transitions and reactions involved in the thermal processing of binary mixtures of polyethylene and poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) copolymers with different concentrations of a foaming agent (azodicarbonamide) were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The effect of ZnO as a kicker also was discussed. The temperature at the maximum rate and the heat evolved were measured for all the processes—melting, transitions, and reactions—all the mixtures prepared were measured and compared. Azodicarbonamide decomposed differently depending on the polymeric matrix. These data can be very useful for the plastic processing industry.

Active packaging is becoming an emerging food technology to improve quality and safety of food products. One of the most common approaches is based on the release of antioxidant/antimicrobial compounds from the packaging material. In this work an antifungal active packaging system based on the release of carvacrol and thymol was optimized to increase the post-harvest shelf life of fresh strawberries and bread during storage. Thermal properties of the developed packaging material were determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Volatile compounds in food samples contained in active packaging systems were monitored by using headspace solid phase microextraction followed by gas chromatography analysis (HS-SPME-GC-MS) at controlled conditions. The obtained results provided evidences that exposure to carvacrol and thymol is an effective way to enlarge the quality of strawberries and bread samples during distribution and sale.

The purpose of this presentation is to pay tribute to the life's work of Professor Vladimir Janda, a key figure in the 20th Century rehabilitation movement. An accomplished neurologist, he founded the rehabilitation department at Charles University Hospital in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He was one of the seminal members of the Prague school of manual medicine and rehabilitation that expanded its influence throughout Central and Eastern Europe. His observations regarding muscle imbalances, faulty posture and gait, and their association with chronic pain syndromes, etiologically, diagnostically, and therapeutically, influenced the rehabilitation world. The authors comprise a multinational, multiprofessional group representative of rehabilitation specialists around the world who would like to pay tribute and give a final word of thanks to this innovative educator, clinician, and author.
