The aims of this study were to evaluate the effect of root canal filling techniques on root fracture resistance and to analyze, by finite element analysis (FEA), the expansion of the endodontic sealer in two different root canal techniques. Thirty single-rooted human teeth were instrumented with rotary files to a standardized working length of 14 mm. The specimens were embedded in acrylic resin using plastic cylinders as molds, and allocated into 3 groups (n=10): G(lateral) - lateral condensation; G(single-cone) - single cone; G(tagger) - Tagger's hybrid technique. The root canals were prepared to a length of 11 mm with the #3 preparation bur of a tapered glass fiber-reinforced composite post system. All roots received glass fiber posts, which were adhesively cemented and a composite resin core was built. All groups were subjected to a fracture strength test (1 mm/min, 45°). Data were analyzed statistically by one-way ANOVA with a significance level of 5%. FEA was performed using two models: one simulated lateral condensation and Tagger's hybrid technique, and the other one simulated the single-cone technique. The second model was designed with an amount of gutta-percha two times smaller and a sealer layer two times thicker than the first model. The results were analyzed using von Mises stress criteria. One-way ANOVA indicated that the root canal filling technique affected the fracture strength (p=0.004). The G(lateral) and G(tagger) produced similar fracture strength values, while G(single-cone) showed the lowest values. The FEA showed that the single-cone model generated higher stress in the root canal walls. Sealer thickness seems to influence the fracture strength of restored endodontically treated teeth.

In order to evaluate the hygienic-sanitary conditions of lamb carcasses for human consumption, this study aimed at quantifying populations of indicator microorganisms, such as: mesophiles and psychrotrophs, molds and yeasts, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus spp. and at identifying pathogenic microorganisms (Salmonella sp. and Listeria spp.). The study was conducted in one lamb slaughterhouse located in the State of São Paulo. Swab samples were collected from muscle surface of forequarter and hindquarter regions of 30 half-carcasses after skinning, evisceration and washing processes. Population counts were between the following values in log10: 2,00 ± 0,32 and 2,59 ± 0,76 UFC/cm2 for mesophiles; 1,52 ± 0,98 and 2,35 ± 1,17 UFC/cm2 for psychrotrophs; 0,75 ± 0,87 and 1,23 ± 0,97 UFC/cm2 for molds and yeasts; 0,00 ± 0,00 and 0,31 ± 0,84 NMP/cm2 for Escherichia coli and 1,75 ± 0,71 and 1,95 ± 0,68 UFC/cm2 for Staphylococcus spp. Salmonella sp. and Listeria spp. were not detected from any of the sampled points. These results indicate the necessity to improve the hygienic-sanitary conditions.

The anatomical and functional impressions philosophies are presented to the professionals who are active in the area, so that they can review concepts and thus obtain more precise molds, based on scientific knowledge. In parallel, impression techniques recommended by the Prosthodontics subject from Araçatuba Dental School – UNESP are also commented.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that currently affects 171 million individuals approximately worldwide, with projection to reach 366 million people in 2030, increasing the prevalence of 2.8% in 2000 to 4.4%. The dyslipidemia is certainly one of the associated metabolic alterations most important, if we consider the main cause of death in Diabetes - the cardiovascular disease (CVD). One of the prevention and help factors in the Diabetes treatment and in the fall of associated complications is the physical exercise, which contributes to a better life quality to the diabetic. The main objective of the work was to evaluate the effect of a mixed physical exercises training program (aerobic/anaerobic with pause-active), including walking exercises, weightlifting and swiss ball, about possible changes in the blood lipid profile of adult individuals type 2 diabetics. The methodology used an experimental model of pre-test and post-test applied to the group. The data were first analyzed in a descriptive way for the normalization and the elaboration of averages and sample diversions. The sample was subdivided in two moments, being one pre and other post then weeks of training. After these procedures, the results of the values of the lipidic profile and glycemia were compared between the pairs pre and post training (test T Student, pair data), non-parametric. With the study, we can conclude that in despite of the low uptake of participants in the search, for reasons already cited, and the great age difference between them, the found results were partially satisfactory, because we achieved significant changes only in the glycemic variables, but we suggest future studies in the molds here proposed.

The product development field daily works in the chase of new materials and technologies that fulfills the requirements of the consumer market. So, projects are developed in order to theoretically predict what will actually happen. The production of household appliance is not different. To provide a pleasant bath to the costumer, the manufacture of a bathtub counts on many components. With this in mind, this work goal is to study the possibility of production by plastic injection of the assembly water source/overflow pipe used in bathtubs and compare its production cost with the cost of the assembly acquired from third parties. The injection process is widely used on the world stage because of its numerous advantages, however, due to the high cost of the molds, it is important to estimate the time required for the return of the initial investment. To do this, a model was designed to examine its dimensions and then initiate the study of the possibility to inject the components with the available injection machine and the production cycle. With the results, it was found that there was a reduction in the cost of the finished assembly, but a very long time to return the initial investment due to the current financial scenery of the country

The production of sound, clean fruit is unquestionably one of the major problems facing the modern fruit grower. Culture may be neglected and pruning delayed for a time but the omission of sprays for even a single season demonstrates their absolute necessity. This applies equally to the commercial grower and to the farmer or gardener who has only a few trees. Spray materials, equipment, management, schedules, insect pests and orchard diseases are discussed in this 1928 extension circular.

Baby boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964, are entering a stage of life when it is predicted that a significant number of them will be moving to rural areas; especially those areas with scenic amenities and low housing costs.

Objective: To assess the setting time (ST), flow (FL), radiopacity (RD), solubility (SB) and dimensional change following setting (DC) of different sealers (AH Plus (R), Polifil, Apexit Plus (R), Sealapex (R), Endomethasone (R) and Endofill (R)) according to American National Standards Institute/American Dental Association (ANSI/ADA) Specification 57. Material and methods: Five samples of each material were used for each test. For ST, cast rings were filled with sealers and tested with a Gillmore needle. For FL, the sealer was placed on a glass plate. After 180 s, another plate with 20 g and a load of 100 g were applied on the material, and the diameters of the discs formed were measured. In RD, circular molds were filled with the sealers, radiographed and analyzed using Digora software. For SB, circular molds were filled with the sealers, a nylon thread was placed inside the material and another glass plate was positioned on the set, pressed and stored at 37 degrees C. Samples were weighed, placed in water, dried and reweighed. The water used for SB was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry. For DC, circular molds were filled with the sealers, covered by glass plates and stored at 37 degrees C. Samples were measured and stored in water for 30 days. After this period, they were dryed and measured again. Results: Regarding ST, AH Plus (R), Apexit (R) and Endofil (R) sealers are in accordance with ANSI/ADA standards. Endomethasone's manufacturer did not mention the ST; Polifil is an experimental sealer and Sealapex (R) did not set. Considering RD, SB and DC, all sealers were in accordance with ANSI/ADA. The spectrometric analysis showed that a significant amount of K+ and Zn2(+) ions was released from Apexit Plus (R) and Endofill (R), respectively. Conclusion: Except for DC, all other physicochemical properties of the tested sealers conformed to ANSI/ADA requirements.

This study reports on the influence of heat and hydrogen peroxide combination on the inactivation kinetics of two heat resistant molds: Neosartorya fischeri and Paecilomyces variotii. Spores of different ages (1 and 4 months) of these molds were prepared and D-values (the time required at certain temperature/hydrogen peroxide combination to inactivate 90% of the mold ascospores) were determined using thermal death tubes. D-values found for P. variotii ranged from 1.2 to 25.1 s after exposure to different combinations of heat (40 or 60 degrees C) and hydrogen peroxide (35 or 40% w/w) while for N. fischeri they varied from 2.7 to 14.3 s after exposure to the same hydrogen peroxide concentrations and higher temperatures (60 or 70 degrees C). The influence of temperature and hydrogen peroxide concentration on the d-values varied with the genus of mold and their ages. A synergistic effect of heat and hydrogen peroxide in reducing D-values of Paecilomyces variotti and N. fischeri has been observed. In addition to strict control of temperature, time and hydrogen concentration, hygienic storage and handling of laminated paperboard material must be considered to reduce the probability of package's contamination. All these measures together will ensure package's sterility that is imperative for the effectiveness of aseptic processing and consequently to ensure the microbiological stability of processed foods during shelf-life. Developing vaccines to prevent the establishment of HIV infection has been fraught with difficulties. It might therefore be important to consider other new strategies. Since several studies suggest that anti-inflammatory stimuli can protect from HIV infection and because HIV replicates preferably in activated T cells, we suggest here that the reduction of immune activation through a HIV-specific regulatory T-cell vaccine might thwart early viral replication. Thus, because immune activation is a good predictor of disease progression and the immune activation set point has been shown to be an early event during HIV infection, vaccinating to achieve control of early virus-specific immune activation might be advantageous.
