Das Ziel dieser Arbeit bestand zum einen in der Entwicklung einer einfachen Synthesestrategie zur Darstellung substituierter symmetrischer Indolo[3,2-b]carbazole sowie in der Erweiterung des -Elektronensystems, um höhere Analoga dieser Substanzklasse zu synthetisieren. Der Zugang sollte dabei durch eine doppelte Cadogan-Ringschlussreaktion als Schlüsselschritt erfolgen. Die doppelte Cadogan-Reaktion erfolgte dabei unter Mikrowellenbedingungen in zufriedenstellenden Ausbeuten. Mittels Röntgenstrukturanalyse sind die verschiedenen Indolo[3,2-b]carbazole und Diindolo[3,2-b;2´,3´-h]carbazole auf ihre Eigenschaften im Festkörper hin untersucht worden. Dabei zeigen sie mit ihren Anordnungen im festen Zustand gute Eigenschaften für deren Verwendung als organische Halbleitermaterialien in Organischen Dünnschichttransistoren oder auch in Organischen Leuchtdioden. Die photophysikalische Charakterisierung erfolgte mittels UV/Vis- und Fluoreszenzspektroskopie sowie durch elektrooptische Absorptionsmessung, die Informationen über die Größe der Dipolmomente im Grundzustand und im angeregten Franck-Condon-Zustand lieferte. Die elektrochemischen Eigenschaften wurden aus cyclovoltammetrischen Messungen durch die Bestimmung der Redoxpotentiale, und damit die Lage der HOMO- bzw. LUMO-Levels, gewonnen. Durch die Synthese und die Bestimmung ihrer photophysikalischen Eigenschaften, mittels UV/Vis- und Fluoreszenzspektroskopie, von auf Naphthalin basierenden Chromophoren wurden zudem Verbindungen dargestellt, die Verwendung in lumineszierenden Lanthanid(III)-Komplexen finden können. Die Darstellung erfolgte mittels einer palladium-katalysierten Arylaminierung gefolgt von einer Suzuki-Kupplung mit 1,4-Dibromnaphthalin als Startmaterial.

In der hier vorliegenden Arbeit wurden neue eisenhaltige Spincrossover-Komplexerndargestellt und deren magnetische Eigenschaften untersucht. Ausgehend von früheren Ergebnissen wurden verschiedene Strategien zur Optimierung der Eisen-Spincrossover Verbindungen verfolgt. Wie schon früher dokumentiert finden sich bei Eisen-Übergangsmetall Komplexen eine Vielzahl von Spincrossover Phänomenen. Ebenso gut dokumentiert sind die Möglichen Änderungen des Spin Zustandes durch äußere Einflüsse wie Temperatur, Druck oder Licht. Darauf aufbauend wurden nunrnverschiedene Eisenkomplexe synthetisiert und auf das Spincrossover Phänomen hin untersucht. Dazu wurden zum Einen Fe(II) Komplexe vom Typ [FeL1(NCS)2] (L1 = pmea, pmap, tepa and tmpa) betrachtet und zum anderen Sternförmige Fe(III) Komplexe vom Typ [M{(CN-FeIIIL2}x]y+. (M=Fe(II), Co(III), Mo(IV), Ru(II)) undrndodecanukleare Komplexe vom Typ [(L2Fe(III)NC)5Fe(II)CNCo(III)(CNFe(III)L2)5]4+. L2= Bis(R2,3,4 -salicylidenaminoalkyl-R1-amin. Thermischen Spincrossover und LIESST zeigen [3,3/N-H/Sal-H/Fe/Co]; [3,3/N-H/Sal-H/Fe/Ru]; [3,3/N-H/sal-H/Fe/Mo]; [3,3/N-H/Sal-H/Fe/W]; FeII(pmea)(SCN)2; thermischen Spinübergang zeigt [2,3/N-H/Sal-H/Fe/Fe-Co]. Die Ethylen gebrückten Komplexe zeigen weniger guten oder gar keinen Schalteffekt im Gegensatz zum Propylen gebrückten Komplexe. Fe(II)(PMEA)(SCN)2 zeigt vollständigen thermischen Spinübergang von High Spin nach Low Spin ein LIESST und einen LiPTH Effekt.

Sr isotope analyses have been conducted on anhydrite samples from the TAG (Trans-Atlantic Geotraverse) active hydrothermal mound (26°08?N, Mid-Atlantic Ridge) that have previously been shown to exhibit two distinct patterns of REE behavior when normalized to TAG end-member hydrothermal fluid. Despite differences in REE patterns, the Sr isotope data indicate that all the anhydrites precipitated from fluids with a similar range of hydrothermal fluid and seawater components, and all but one were seawater-dominated (52%-75%). Speciation calculations using the EQ3/6 software package for geochemical modeling of aqueous systems suggest that the REE complexation behavior in different fluid mixing scenarios can explain the variations in the REE patterns. Anhydrites that exhibit relatively flat REE patterns [(La_bs)/(Yb_bs) = 0.8-2.0; subscript bs indicates normalization to end-member black smoker hydrothermal fluid] and a small or no Eu anomaly [(Eu_bs)/(Eu*_bs) = 0.8-2.0] are inferred to have precipitated from mixes of end-member hydrothermal fluid and cold seawater. REE complexes with hard ligands (e.g., fluoride and chloride) are less stable at low temperatures and trivalent Eu has an ionic radius similar to that of Ca2+ and the other REE, and so they behave coherently. In contrast, anhydrites that exhibit slight LREE-depletion [(La_bs)/(Yb_bs) = 0.4-1.4] and a distinct negative anomaly [(Eu_bs)/(Eu*_bs) = 0.2-0.8] are inferred to have precipitated from mixes of end-member hydrothermal fluid and conductively heated seawater. The LREE depletion results from the presence of very stable LREE chloro-complexes that effectively limit the availability of the LREE for partitioning into anhydrite. Above 250°C, Eu is present only in divalent form as chloride complexes, and discrimination against Eu2+ is likely due to both the mismatch in ionic radii between Eu2+ and Ca2+, and the strong chloro-complexation of divalent Eu which promotes stability in the fluid and inhibits partitioning of Eu2+ into precipitating anhydrite. These variations in REE behavior attest to rapid fluctuations in thermal regime, fluid flow and mixing in the subsurface of the TAG mound that give rise to heterogeneity in the formation conditions of individual anhydrite crystals.

Our study of the extended metal environment, particularly of the second shell, focuses in this paper on zinc sites. Key findings include: (i) The second shell of mononuclear zinc centers is generally more polar than hydrophobic and prominently features charged residues engaged in an abundance of hydrogen bonding with histidine ligands. Histidine–acidic or histidine–tyrosine clusters commonly overlap the environment of zinc ions. (ii) Histidine tautomeric metal bonding patterns in ligating zinc ions are mixed. For example, carboxypeptidase A, thermolysin, and sonic hedgehog possess the same ligand group (two histidines, one unibidentate acidic ligand, and a bound water), but their histidine tautomeric geometries markedly differ such that the carboxypeptidase A makes only Nδ1 contacts, thermolysin makes only Nɛ2 contacts, and sonic hedgehog uses one of each. Thus the presence of a similar ligand cohort does not necessarily imply the same topology or function at the active site. (iii) Two close histidine ligands HXmH, m ≤ 5, rarely both coordinate a single metal ion in the Nδ1 tautomeric conformation, presumably to avoid steric conflicts. Mononuclear zinc sites can be classified into six types depending on the ligand composition and geometry. Implications of the results are discussed in terms of divergent and convergent evolution.

Este trabalho tem como principal objetivo contribuir para o desenvolvimento de novos potenciais metalofármacos de rutênio. Nele são descritas a síntese, a caracterização e a avaliação da ação antiproliferativa de alguns complexos de dirutênio (II,III) com os fármacos antiinflamatórios não-esteróides (AINEs): ibuprofeno (ibp), ácido acetilsalicílico (aas), naproxeno (npx) e indometacina (ind) e também com o ácido γ-linolênico (lin), sobre células cancerígenas. Os compostos obtidos foram caracterizados por análise elementar, espectroscopia de absorção eletrônica, medidas de susceptibilidade magnética, espectroscopia vibracional FTIR e Raman, difratometria de raios X de pó, medidas de condutividade molar e análise térmica (TG, OTAe OSC). Todos os complexos sintetizados apresentam estrutura em gaiola, com os carboxilatos derivados dos fármacos AINEs coordenados à unidade dimetálica Ru2( (II,III), em ponte equatorial, estabilizando assim a ligação direta rutênio-rutênio. As posições axiais são ocupadas por íons cloreto, no caso dos complexos [Ru2(O2(CR)4(Cl] (O2(CR = ibp, aas, npx ou ind), ou por moléculas de água, nas espécies do tipo [Ru2(O2(CR)4(H2O)2]PF6(O2CR =npx e ind). Ensaios biológicos demonstraram que os compostos [Ru2(ibp) 4Cl]•½H2O e [Ru2(npx)4(H2O)2]PF6 apresentam ação antiproliferativa sobre células de glioma de rato C6 in vitro, dependendo do tempo de exposição do meio celular ao complexo. O complexo [Ru2 (lin)4Cl] também apresenta efeito sobre a proliferação de células C6; entretanto, nesse caso, efeitos significativos são observaçlos já nas primeiras 24 h de exposição. Estudos mostraram que as bases adenina e adenosina reagem com o complexo [Ru2(OAc)4(H2O)2]PF6 sem que ocorra quebra da estrutura em gaiola. As bases nitrogenadas substituem axialmente as moléculas de água, formando pontes axiais entre duas unidades de dirutênio (II,III) no estado sólido.

The allylic substitution reaction, and particularly the direct allylic amination reaction, of free allylic alcohols in water catalyzed by FeCl3⋅6 H2O is described. This novel environmentally-friendly methodology allows the use of a wide variety of nitrogenated nucleophiles such as sulfonamides, carbamates, benzamides, anilines, benzotriazoles, and azides, generally giving good yields of the corresponding substitution products. The synthetic applicability of the process is also demonstrated because the reaction can be performed on gram-scale. Additionally, carbon nucleophiles such as silylated nucleophiles, aromatic compounds, and malonates also proved to be suitable for this transformation. Finally, the nature of the catalytic species present in aqueous media is unveiled, pointing towards the formation of hexaaquo iron(III) complexes.

Xanthate-mediated (reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer) emulsion polymerization has been used to create novel polystyrene nanoparticles with functionalized surfaces (see Figure) for the selective sequestering of heavy metals from water below ppm levels. These nanoparticles show a high degree of selectivity for Hg-II over Co-II. This technology has potential for the selective remediation of heavy metals from the human blood system.

The reaction of 2,6-diformylpyridine-bis(benzoylhydrazone) [dfpbbh] and 2,6-diformylpyridine-bis(4-phenylsemicarbazone) [dfpbpsc] with lanthanides salts yielded the new chelates complexes [Eu(dfpbpsc-H +) 2]NO 3 (1), [Dy(fbhmp) 2][Dy(dfpbbh-2H +) 2]·2EtOH·2H 2O (fbhmp = 2-formylbenzoylhydrazone-6-methoxide-pyridine; Ph = phenyl; Py = pyridine; Et = ethyl) and [Er 2(dfpbbh-2H +) 2(μ-NO 3)(H 2O) 2(OH)]·H 2O. X-ray diffraction analysis was employed for the structural characterization of the three chelate complexes. In the case of complex 1, optical, synthetic and computational methods were also exploited for ground state structure determinations and triplet energy level of the ligand and HOMO-LUMO calculations, as well as for a detailed study of its luminescence properties. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. Novel [Ru(L)(Tpms)]Cl and [Ru(L)(Tpms(Ph))]Cl complexes (L = p-cymene, benzene, or hexamethylbenzene, Tpms = tris(pyrazolyl)-methanesulfonate, Tpms(Ph) = tris(3-phenylpyrazoly)methanesulfonate) have been prepared by reaction of [Ru(L)(mu-Cl)(2)](2) with Li[Tpms] and Li[Tpms(Ph)], respectively. [Ru(p-cymene)(Tpms)]BF4 has been synthesized through a metathetic reaction of [Ru(p-cymene)(Tpms)]Cl with AgBF4. [RuCl(cod)(Tpms)] (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) and [RuCl(cod)(Tpms(Ph))] are also reported, being obtained by reaction of [RuCl2(cod)(MeCN)(2)] with Li[Tpms] and Li[Tpms(Ph)], respectively. The structures of the complexes and the coordination modes of the ligands have been established by IR, NMR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (for [RuL(Tpms)]X (L = p-cymene or HMB, X = Cl; L = p-cymene, X = BF4)) studies. Electrochemical studies showed that each complex undergoes a single-electron R-II -> R-III oxidation at a potential measured by cyclic voltammetry, allowing to compare the electron-donor characters of the tris(pyrazolyl)methanesulfonate and arene ligands, and to estimate, for the first time, the values of the Lever E-L ligand parameter for Tmps(Ph), HMB, and cod.

New tri-functional ligands of the type R2NCCCH2SCH2CCNR2 (where R = iso-propyl, n-butyl or iso-butyl) were prepared and characterized. The coordination chemistry of these ligands with uranyl and lanthanum(III) nitrates was studied by using the IR, (HNMR)-H-1 and elemental analysis methods. Structures for the compounds [UO2(NO3)(2)((Pr2NCOCH2SCH2CONPr2)-Pr-i-Pr-i)] [UO2(NO3)(2)((Bu2NCOCH2SCH2CONBu2)-Bu-i-Bu-i)(2)] [La(NO3)(3)((Pr2NCOCH2SCH2CONPr2)-Pr-i-Pr-i)(2)] and [La(NO3)(3)((Bu2NCOCH2SCH2CONBu2)-Bu-i-Bu-i)(2)] were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. These structures show that the ligand acts as a bidentate chelating ligand and bonds through both the carbamoyl groups to the uranyl and lanthanum(III) nitrate groups. Solvent extraction studies show that the ligand can extract the uranyl ion from the nitric acid medium but does not show any ability to extract the americium (III) ion. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Two cobalt complexes, [Co(L-Se)(phen)]center dot CH2Cl2 (1) and [Co(L-Se)(N,N-Me(2)en)(CH3COO-)] (2) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic measurements, i.r. studies etc. Single crystal X- ray studies reveal that in complex (1) cobalt atom is in +2 oxidation state with trigonal bipyramidal geometry, while in complex (2) it is in +3 oxidation state and surrounded octahedrally. The asymmetric unit of complex (2) contains two crystallographically independent discrete molecules. Complex (1) was found to be paramagnetic with mu(eff) = 2.19 BM indicating a low spin cobalt(II) d(7) system, whereas complex (2) is found to be diamagnetic with cobalt(III) in low spin d(6) state. The kinetic studies on the reduction of (2) by ascorbic acid in 80% MeCN-20% H2O (v/v) at 25 degrees C reveal that the reaction proceeds through the rapid formation of inner-sphere adduct, probably by replacing the loosely coordinated AcO- group, followed by electron transfer in a slow step and is supported by a large Q (formation constant) value.
