There has been almost no IS related corporate social responsibility (CSR) research on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and most non-IS research does not examine how SMEs use websites to communicate their CSR initiatives. This paper develops and applies a framework to report on the results of an exploratory content analysis of 33 Australian SME websites in the Information Media/Telecommunications and Accommodation/ Food Services sectors which communicate CSR initiatives online.

A nano-sized Mg2Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) was used for encapsulating an organic UV absorber, 2-hydroxy-4- methoxybenzeophenone-5-sulfonic acid (HMBS), to produce HMBS@LDH hybrid nano-platelets. Upon dispersing this organic-inorganic hybrid LDH into ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) for film casting, a thin polymer
nanocomposite film that is UV opaque but highly transparent to visible light (higher than 90%) was formed. Thermogravimetry (TG) analysis confirmed that the intercalation of HMBS into LDH considerably increased the thermal stability of HMBS. Such an improvement was attributed to the strong guest-host interaction between the HMBS anions and the LDH layers. Also, the nanocomposite films were flexible and had good mechanical properties.

Information and communication technologies (particularly websites and e-mail) have the potential to deliver health behavior change programs to large numbers of adults at low cost. Controlled trials using these new media to promote physical activity have produced mixed results. User-centered development methods can assist in understanding the preferences of potential participants for website functions and content, and may lead to more effective programs. Eight focus group discussions were conducted with 40 adults after they had accessed a previously trialed physical activity website. The discussions were audio taped, transcribed and interpreted using a themed analysis method. Four key themes emerged: structure, interactivity, environmental context and content. Preferences were expressed for websites that include simple interactive features, together with information on local community activity opportunities. Particular suggestions included online community notice boards, personalized progress charts, e-mail access to expert advice and access to information on specific local physical activity facilities and services. Website physical activity interventions could usefully include personally relevant interactive and environmentally focused features and services identified through a user-centered development process.

The My School website in Australia offers moderately nuanced comparisons between any school and sixty other socio-educationally similar schools. Detrimental effects on poor-performing schools are small because it is forbidden to use these comparisons to construct league tables. More generally, however, the website promotes practices of auditing employees. As such it undermines teachers’ sense of integrity and any sense that they are professionals who society respects enough to entrust with an important task. It is not surprising that very few teachers use it, and it would seem not many parents use it either. A left-of-centre government established the website despite opposition by the teacher unions but with the support of News Corporation. New Public Management and an accompanying great increase in auditing offer a deeper explanation for why the website was established. Public servants and political leaders of both the left and the right support the transparency about school performance so My School is likely to continue. An alliance between teacher unions, parents and community groups might see education policy switch tracks from the present market orientation to a welfare orientation.

In today’s global age, e-government services have become the main channel for online communication between the government and its citizens. They aim to provide citizens with more accessible, accurate, real-time and high quality services. Therefore, the quality of government websites which provide e-services is an essential factor in the successful adoption of e-government services by the public. This paper discusses an investigation of the effect of the Website Quality (WQ) factor on the acceptance of using e-government services (G2C) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) by adopting the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) Model. Survey Data collected from 400 respondents were examined using the structural equation modelling (SEM) technique and utilising AMOS tools. This study found that the factors that significantly influenced the Use Behaviour of e-government services in KSA (USE) include Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort expectancy (EE), Facilitating Conditions (FC) and Website Quality (WQ), while the construct known Social Influence (SI) did not. Moreover, the results confirm the importance of quality government websites and support systems as one of the main significant and influential factors of e-government services adoption. The results of this study can be helpful to Saudi’s governmental sectors to adjust their corporate strategies and plans to advance successful adoption and diffusion of e-government services (G2C) in KSA.

Currently viscose production methods are primarily used to process bamboo into commercial textile fibres. However, viscose methods use large quantities of chemicals and hence the process is not considered as environmentally friendly. The process also fails to retain bamboo’s inherent unique properties such as ultraviolet (UV) screening and antibacterial functions. Hence, it is necessary to design an effective and more eco-friendly manufacturing method that would also retain the unique properties of raw bamboo plant into the fibres. In this research, bamboo was processed using new methods involving thermo mechanical treatments such as ultra-sonication, shaker milling and boiling with continuous stirring. Sodium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide, enzyme and water were used separately in this process and their effects on fibre processing were compared. The morphology and UV shielding ability were analysed before and after processing. It was demonstrated that bamboo can be processed into fibres using only water and ball milling without the aid of any hazardous chemicals. The combination of mild acid hydrolysis and ultrasonic treatment with hydrogen peroxide was effective in the fibre separation and provided better appearance of fibres.

This published design output forms part of an ongoing dialogue between the designer, design briefs and mediated technologies. The dialogue involves the elements of interface design, typography, image and responsive technologies. The website development and design was a client initiated work that has culminated in a ongoing relationship between the designer, Tonya Meyrick and the client b&t energetics. This fully responsive website incorporates a contemporary and interactive space for the client and customers through a simple interface design with comments and feedback section, media releases, product gallery and online shopping cart with merchant facilities.

This article is devoted to a new iterative construction of hierarchical classifiers in SimpleCLI for the detection of phishing websites. Our new construction of hierarchical systems creates ensembles of ensembles in SimpleCLI by iteratively linking a top-level ensemble to another middle-level ensemble instead of a base classifier so that the top-level ensemble can generate a large multilevel system. This new construction makes it easy to set up and run such large systems in SimpleCLI. The present article concentrates on the investigation of performance of the iterative construction of such classifiers for the example of detection of phishing websites. We carried out systematic experiments evaluating several essential ensemble techniques as well as more recent approaches and studying their performance as parts of the iterative construction of hierarchical classifiers. The results presented here demonstrate that the iterative construction of hierarchical classifiers performed better than the base classifiers and standard ensembles. This example of application to the classification of phishing websites shows that the new iterative construction combining diverse ensemble techniques into the iterative construction of hierarchical classifiers can be applied to increase the performance in situations where data can be processed on a large computer. © 2014 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.
