Shore environments of Lakes Victoria and Kyoga with potential for the establishment and proliferation of water hyacinth were identified. They are characterised by: (i) shelter from violent off-shore and along-the-shore wind and wave action (ii) flat or gentle slope under relatively shallow water, and (iii) a muddy bottom rich in organic matter. Such environments are strongly associated with emergent macrophytes of papyrus, Vossia sp and, at times Typha sp where Pistia stratiotes, species of ceratophyllum, myriophylum and nymphaea also occur. In Lake Kyoga association with Vossia sp facilitated establishment of water hyacinth even along wind-swept shores and promoted extension of mats of the two machrophytes into the open lake. Urgent research on water hyacinth is proposed in the areas of nutrient relations, weed biology and on its impact on the biodiversity resource, with particular emphasis on the fishery component. Findings from the research could facilitate formulation of weed control options and alternative resource management strategies. A regional approach to address the water hyacinth menace is highly recommended.

Nakivubo swamp (papyrus wetland) is located in the south east of the city of Kampala, Uganda. This swamp has been receiving waste water from Nakivubo channel for more than two decades. This investigation was aimed at monitoring the level of pollutants (nutrients and faecal coliforms) as the waste water filtrates through the swamp and the flow patterns of waste water through the swamp. From this preliminary investigation it was found out that the waste water is not evenly distributed over the swamp. Also high levels of pollutants seem to filtrate through the swamp and enter Inner Murchison Bay - Lake Victoria. Further research is under way to investigate in more detail the capacity of Nakivubo swamp to remove nutrients/pollutants from waste water flowing through it and the dominant mechanisms/processes involved.

The limnological investigations in Uganda freshwaters which were started in the 1920s looked into: the origins, the changing geological and climatic factors which gave rise to the characteristic inland waters; the primary production; the constituent small aquatic organisms and their ecology; and their bordering swamps. Most of them were formed immediately after the formation of the great Western rift valley. Almost all the inland waters in Uganda are typical tropical freshwaters which, because of their relative shallowness, experience rather frequent wind stirrings and therefore nutrient circulation which would make them relatively productive. Many physical, biological and chemical factors come into play to finally determine this. The present investigations continue to bridge the gaps which were left and also to collect the baseline data needed to later manage, monitor and control any possible pollution risks.

Fetal membranes consist of 10 distinct layers including components of amnion, chorion and decidua, the latter being of maternal origin. They form mechanically integrated sheets capable of retaining amniotic fluid and play an essential role in protecting fetal growth and development in the pregnant uterus. The extracellular matrix, substrate for plasminogen activators (PAs), is an important supportive framework of the fetal membranes. :Fetal membranes from women with preterm premature rupture of membranes may differ in their protease activity compared with normal membranes. To identify the presence of PAs and their inhibitors (PAI) and their possible role in the process of fetal membrane rupture, this study in investigated the distribution and localization of both protein and mRNA for tissue (t) and urokinase (u) PA and their inhibitors type 1 (PAI-1) and type 2 (PAI-2) in amniochorion of human and rhesus monkey using conventional and. confocal immunofluorescence microscopy. In situ hybridization analysis showed that the distribution and localization of mRNAs for tPA, uPA, PAI-I and PAI-2 were similar in the fetal membranes of human and rhesus monkey; no obvious species difference was observed. Evidence of tPA mRNA was detected in amniotic epithelium, trophoblast cells and nearly all cells of the decidual layer. Strong expression of uPA mRNA was noted in the decidual cells which increased in intensity as the abscission point was approached. Weak staining in chorion laeve trophoblast was also detected. In situ hybridization experiments showed PAI-1 mRNA to be concentrated mainly in the decidual cells, some of which were interposed into the maternal-facing edge of the chorion laeve. Maximal labelling of the decidua occurred towards the zone of abscission. Weak expression of PAI-1 mRNA nas also noted in some cells of the chorion laeve. The distribution of PAI-2 mRNA in amniochorion was also concentrated in the cells of the decidual layer, maximum expression of the mRNA was in the level of abscission. No detectable amount of mRNAs for tPA, uPA, PAI-1 and PAI-2 was found in the fibroblast, reticular and spongy layers. Distribution of the proteins of tPA, uPA and PAI-1 in the fetal membranes of these two species was consistent with the distribution of their mRNA. Anti-PAI-2 immunofluorescence was found to be strongly concentrated in the amniotic epithelium, but PAI-2 mRNA was negative in this layer, suggesting that the epithelium-associated PAI-2 is not of epithelial origin. These findings suggest that a local fibrinolysis in fetal membranes generated by precisely balanced expression of PAs and their inhibitors via paracrine or autocrine mechanisms may play an essential role in fetal membrane development, maturation and in membrane rupture. Following an analysis of the distribution and synthesis of activators and inhibitors it was found that they may play a role in abscission during the third stage of labour. (C) 1998 W. B. Microcystins are a kind of cyclic hepatoxins produced by many species of cyanobacteria. The toxic effects of microcystins on animals and plants have been well studied. However, the reports about the effects of microcystins on microbial cells are very limited. In present paper, Escherichia coli was undertaken to determine the effect of microcystin-RR. These results suggested that microcystin-RR could prolong the growth of E. coli when exposed to high concentrations of microcystin-RR and cause the accumulation of ROS and induce the oxidant stress for a short time. The antioxidant system protects E. coli from oxidative damage.

Hybrid composites composed of zinc phthalocyanine embedded in silicon matrixes have attracted attention because of the potential for solar energy conversion. We produce hybrid composites by thermal evaporation for the plithalocyanine and PECVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) for the silicon matrix. Deposition of ZnPc/a-Si(amorphous silicon) composites was achieved in a sequential manner. The compound films were characterized by optical transmittance spectra and photoconductivity measurement. The optical transmittance measurements were carried out in the visible region (500 - 800 nm). Compared to pure silicon film, the photosensitivity of compound functional films was enhanced by one order of magnitude. This demonstrates the Si sensitized by adding ZnPc.

高电荷态离子与固体表面相互作用的研究是目前国际上广受关注的热点研究领域之一。本论文详细介绍了在兰州重离子加速器国家实验室ECR离子源上建成的高电荷态离子表面物理实验平台;着重叙述了在实验平台上完成的高电荷态离子在固体表面引起的离子溅射和电子发射的研究。我们用初动能Ek=216~720keV的高电荷态Pb36+离子和初动能为Ek=144~288keV的Arq+(q =11~16)离子以不同入射角度(Ψ=15º~80º)作用于Nb、Si和SiO2表面,通过研究离子溅射产额与入射离子初动能、势能(电荷态)和入射角度的关系,得到了以下结论:离子溅射产额与炮弹离子的势能沉积和动能作用有关;对Ar离子,电荷态从11增加到16时,离子溅射产额是随之增长的。而对Pb36+离子,表面离子溅射产额随入射离子初动能的变化关系跟核阻止能损随入射离子初动能的变化关系是一致的,离子溅射产额与核阻止能损是线性相关的。认为高电荷态引发的表面离子溅射过程是势能沉积作用与线性级联碰撞过程协同作用的结果。我们还测量了Heq+(q=1,2, Ek=12keV~48keV),Neq+(q=2~8, Ek=18~192keV),Arq+(q=3~12, Ek=72keV)离子垂直作用于Si, W, Au表面产生的电子发射产额。得到了纯粹势能电子发射产额与入射离子势能的定量关系,势能电子产额随入射离子势能的增加而线性增加,势能每增加1eV,单离子电子发射产额增加0.0088(以初动能为42keV的Neq+入射到W表面为例)。势能电子发射增量跟靶的性质有关,W表面对势能变化的响应最剧烈,其次是Si表面。通过引入纯粹动能电子产额与电子能损的比值B分析和研究了动能电子发射,随着入射离子原子序数和初动能的增加,B因子有缓慢降低的趋势;B因子与靶材料密切相关,Au靶的B因子明显大于Si靶和W靶;我们还首次把B因子的研究扩展到高电荷态离子领域,认为B因子与入射离子的势能(电荷态)无关

穿透雨量是林内有效雨量的主要组成部分 ,其量能占 90 %以上。由于林冠空间分布的不均匀性 ,难以对林内穿透雨量进行精确地测量。从林冠截留降雨的作用机理出发 ,在做出几个假设的基础上 ,用数学方法建立了林内穿透雨量模型 ,即 :当 P0 ,U>0 )当 P≥ U时 ,R=P- W其中 U=W( b+ 1 ) ,式中 b,W,U为模型参数 ,R为林内穿透雨量 ,P为大气降雨量 ,α为林分郁闭度。结合两个有实测资料的针叶树林分 ,又进一步介绍了模型参数的确定方法。同时将模型的计算结果与实测数据进行了对比 ,两者吻合性很好 ,验证效果是比较理想的。模型概念清晰 ,参数物理意义明确。在风速和雨强不太大的情况下 ,本模型适用于任何林分的穿透雨量的计算。然而 ,为了应用于无实测资料地区 ,尚须进一步研究模型参数与林分特征的关系。

分散元素广泛应用于高新技术领域, 具有重要的经济价值, 但因其在地壳中的低含量和其本身地球化学性质的分散性而不易富集成矿, 但是富乐铅锌矿床中却有4 种分散元素Cd, Se, Ge, Ga 具有工业价值。该矿床位于我国重要的川滇黔多金属成矿带南东部,分散元素主要赋存在闪锌矿中, 平均w (B)ö10- 6分别为Cd 16 183, Se 163, Ge 135, Ga 86,其中w (Cd) 是迄今国内最高。闪锌矿分棕黑色、红棕色和黄棕色3 种颜色。Cd 在深色闪锌矿中而Ge 和Ga 在浅色闪锌矿中相对富集, Se 在不同颜色闪锌矿中含量几乎不变。Cd, Ge,Se 主要呈类质同象形式存在, Cd, Ge 占据Zn 的位置, 而Se 占据S 的位置。Ga 主要以显微吸附形式存在, 少量以类质同象形式存在。Zn 与Cd 负相关, 而与Ge 正相关, 与Se 不相关。分散元素地球化学特征指示矿床为沉积2改造成因。

已有的研究表明,与富B花岗岩有关的岩浆-热液体系以富含电气石矿物为特征,B和其它挥发分一起参与了岩浆分异、流体演化、围岩蚀变以及金属迁移和沉积的一系列过程。但至今B与Sn-W矿床之间是否存在协同性仍是个不解之迷。 电气石是B的主要寄主矿物,并且电气石被认为是成岩成矿的良好指示剂。目前,国内外对富B岩浆体系性状以及B对成岩成矿的作用研究相对比较缺乏。广西银屏细粒花岗岩是花山复式岩体最晚期的侵入岩相,不仅花岗岩中结晶有大量的电气石,而且在发育的晶洞中含有大量的电气石矿物。本文通过对银屏细粒花岗岩和晶洞中电气石化学组成、石英中流体包裹体的系统研究,探讨富B花岗岩形成和岩浆-热液体系演化地球化学特征,并对B与Sn矿化是否存在耦合关系的潜在性进行评价。 通过对富B花岗岩的研究,我们得到以下几点重要结论: (1) 银屏细粒花岗岩以高硅、高钾、富碱、低磷、准铝质为特征,具有较高的FeO*/MgO,富集大离子亲石元素、高场强元素和稀土元素。银屏细粒花岗岩的全岩样品显示强烈的稀土“四重效应”及等价不相容元素对 (Nb-Ta、Zr-Hf、Sr-Eu)分异,表明花山花岗岩分异演化晚期阶段存在熔体-流体作用; (2) 细粒花岗岩和晶洞中电气石为富Fe的黑电气石,前者是岩浆成因的,后者是蒸汽相成因的。两种成因电气石化学组成非常一致,几乎不含有过剩Al,Fe/(Fe+Mg)比值集中分布于0.96~0.98之间。Al3+=Fe3+和R++R2+=R3++□是电气石中2个主要置换反应; (3) 花山A型花岗岩形成演化过程中不存在狭义的岩浆-热液过渡阶段,形成细粒花岗岩的岩浆具有极高的粘度,大量的饱和蒸汽相被高粘度的熔体捕获﹑圈闭,气泡生长是岩浆去气的主要方式;尽管岩浆在相对高的氧逸度条件下分异演化,但由于缺乏岩浆-热液演化过程,在银屏岩体范围内不太可能发生有规模的锡石-石英脉型矿化作用; (4) 晶洞石英显示仅含有气液包裹体,而无其他类型包裹体共存,表明岩浆流体演化晚期为均匀的单一相。晚期流体的温压范围在150~265 °C,41~72 MPa之间。
