It reveals and discusses the significant circulation of ideas that an array of Chilean travelers and exiles in several European countries generated and promoted in Chile in the middle of the 19th century. The Camposanto of Pisa is an extraordinarily complex and evocative monument, which has captured the imagination of pilgrims, both religious and secular, for centuries. The late Medieval and early Renaissance wall paintings that line the perimeter of the portico surrounding a vast inner courtyard, are unparalleled in early Italian art, not only for their striking variety of composition and narrative complexity, but also for the sheer grandeur of their proportion. However, the passage of time has scarred the structure of the Camposanto and inflicted terrible damage on its wall paintings. This thesis explores the material reality of the Camposanto as experienced over three centuries through the eyes of British travelers. In order to situate the Camposanto mural cycle within an historical and cultural context, the first chapter provides an overview of the construction and decoration of the monument. Notably, Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574), the Italian Humanist often recognized as the father of art history, included numerous descriptions of the Camposanto murals in his highly influential text Vite de' più eccellenti pittori, scultori, ed architettori. Accordingly, the second chapter provides an analysis of Vasari’s descriptions and reflects upon the influence that the Renaissance author may have had upon the subsequent British reception of the Camposanto murals. The third chapter utilizes three centuries of travel writing in order to investigate the aesthetic impact of the Camposanto mural cycle upon British tourists from the seventeenth through to the nineteenth century.

Since the classic era that monsters have been both the subject of worship and fear. Greeks used to valorize them making up new races which lived in faraway lands, in the East. There were traveler’s reports made up, from a moralist and religious point of view, always with veracity in mind, where anatomical weird beings were described. Saint Augustin tried to prove their existence, classifying them as wonders and focusing on stopping the idea of the corruption of the human soul by denying their relation between monstrous births and divine punishment. Monsters present then two distinct aspects when it comes to their origins: one that pushes back to monstrous births, seen as omens, and other that points to the existence of fantastic races in faraway places. However when it comes to structure these fantastic beings display finite compositions, not looking too different from each other. With the passage of time, besides their fearful role, monsters were being observed as scientific curiosities and at last, as recreation subjects, first in freak shows, now in several industries, being the most well know the cinematographic industry and the videogames one. Two creatures from the world known videogame World of Warcraft from Blizzard Entertainment were selected to be analyzed from a scientific point of view, were based on their features, there will be a comparative analysis with diverse anomalies and diseases (prognathism, acromegaly, cyclopia) existent , as well as comparative anatomy with other animals
