The North Dublin City and County Regional Drugs Task Force invites applications for this once-off funding which will be provided through four pillars by way of a grant up to €3,000 for innovative initiatives: • Prevention, Education & Awareness – to develop programmes and supports in the community which offer information and education in order to generate awareness. • Treatment & Rehabilitation – to develop additional short-term supports for those undertaking treatment for drug misuse or innovative rehabilitative supports. • Research – to undertake local research into drug misuse in North Dublin within the RDTF area. • Supply Reduction – to reduce access to all drugs, in particular those that cause most harm, among young people in neighbourhoods where misuse is most prevalent. Escalating epidemiology of eosinophilic esophagitis: 21 years of prospective population-based documentation in Olten county

Background and Aims: Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) is detected with a dramatically increasingfrequency during the last decades. However, it is still unknown whether this reflects atrue increase in incidence or just an increased awareness by gastroenterologists. We therefore,prospectively assessed incidence and prevalence of EoE in an epidemiologically well definedindicator area over the last 21 years. Methods: Olten County is an area of approximately90,000 inhabitants without pronounced demographic changes during the last two decades.Two EoE-experienced gastroenterologists and one pathology centre are responsible forcovering the gastroenterological service of the area. No public programs for increasingawareness of EoE were implemented in this region. Since 1989 all individuals with confirmeddiagnosis of EoE living in Olten County were entered prospectively into the database. Results:Forty-six patients (76% males, mean age 41±16 yrs) were diagnosed with EoE between1989 and 2009. Ninety-four percent of patients presented with dysphagia. An average annualincidence rate of 1.88/100,000 was found (range 0-8) with a marked increase in the periodfrom 2004 to 2009. The cumulative EoE prevalence rose up to 35.1/100,000 inhabitantsin 2009. No significant change was observed for the median diagnostic delay, as it was 3years from 1989 to 1998 and 2 years from 1999 to 2009 with age < 40 years representinga risk factor for retarded diagnosis. The number of upper endoscopies per year increasedby 63% in the period from 1999 to 2009 compared to the years 1989 to 1998 which ismarkedly less then the increase in the incidence rate of 150% for the same periods. Conclusions:Over the last 21 years, a significant increase in EoE incidence and prevalence wasfound in an epidemiologically stable indicator region of Switzerland. The constant diagnosticdelay, the number of newly diagnosed EoE cases that was much more pronounced thanthe modest increase of performed upper endoscopies, as well as the lack of EoE awarenessprograms in Olten County indicates a true increase in EoE incidence.

Dans le cadre de la politique multiculturelle de protection des minorités menée par le gouvernement taïwanais, le Comité ministériel aux affaires hakka (keweihui) a planifié dix-huit « halls culturels hakkas » dans chaque comté et municipalité. L'article retrace le processus de création d'un de ces halls, dans le nord de l'île de Taiwan, au cours de la décennie 2000. L'aménagement du hall procède à l'incorporation d'artistes locaux dans une tradition nationale hakka réinventée. Il est montré comment sa genèse s'est produite à l'intersection d'une politique impulsée par « le haut » et d'un projet émanant d'acteurs locaux. L'article met en évidence comment les catégories yingti (hardware) et ruanti (software) président à sa fabrication et impliquent une opposition et une complémentarité entre « contenant » et « contenu », entre « État » et « société », qui agissent à toutes les étapes de sa mise en oeuvre.

Infectious disease among enslaved African Americans at Eaton's Estate, Warren County, North Carolina, ca. 1830-1850

The skeletal remains of 17 people buried in the Eaton Ferry Cemetery in northern North Carolina provide a means of examining health and infectious disease experience in the XIX century South. The cemetery appears to contain the remains of African Americans enslaved on the Eaton family estate from approximately 1830-1850, and thus offers a window into the biological impacts of North American slavery in the years preceding the Civil War. The sample includes the remains of six infants, one child, and one young and nine mature adults (five men, four women, and one unknown). Skeletal indices used to characterize health and disease in the Eaton Ferry sample include dental caries, antemortem tooth loss, enamel hypoplasia, porotic hyperostosis, periosteal lesions, lytic lesions, and stature. These indicators reveal a cumulative picture of compromised health, including high rates of dental disease, childhood growth disruption, and infectious disease. Specific diseases identified in the sample include tuberculosis and congenital syphilis. Findings support previous research on the health impacts of slavery, which has shown that infants and children were the most negatively impacted segment of the enslaved African American population.

Factores que influyen en los comportamientos sexuales de prevención frente al virus de inmunideficiencia humana (VIH) en los adictos a las drogas por vía parenteral (ADVP)

Los datos existentes sobre el progresivo incremento de la infección con el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) entre los adictos a las drogas por via parenteral (ADVP) y sus parejas e hijos, plantean la necesidad urgente de elaborar programas preventivos con el mayor grado de eficacia posible. En el presente trabajo nos proponemos tres objetivos: 1) Poner de manifiesto algunas insuficiencias observadas en los modelos deprevención que se aplican al caso del SIDA. 2) Conferir un énfasis especial a la influencia sobre los comportamientos preventivos frente al SIDA, de ciertos factores que, en general, no se tienen 10 bastante en cuenta en los modelos actuales como son: la magnitud del reforzamiento contingente a un determinado comportamiento y la demora con la que éste se recibe. 3) Exponer los resultados de una investigación realizada con drogadictos por via parenteral (Planes, 1991), cuyos objetivos eran conocer las relacionesexistentes entre la magnitud y la demora del reforzamiento contingente a los comportamientos sexuales preventivos y la frecuencia de dichos comportamientos

Catalogador de música MP3 y reproductor de música vía Web con búsquedas de música basadas en la definición de unas observaciones y emociones personales

El principal objetivo del proyecto es romper las fronteras de las búsquedas de canciones en las discotecas de los usuarios domésticos guardadas en los discos duros de sus PC's. Se pretende buscar canciones en base a unas observaciones personales (amigos, lugares, comentarios...) que habrán sido definidas previamente por el usuario, y el segundo tipo buscará canciones en base a las "emociones personales" que también serán definidas por el usuario.Como objetivos secundarios se plantea organizar automáticamente los archivos de audio MP3 almacenados en los ordenadores personales, reproducir los archivos de audio MP3 mediante streaming, un servicio que buscará enlaces web que contengan información/noticias de artistasálbumes, etc., y una agenda musical en la cual los usuarios podrán programar el aviso de observaciones personales

Silicate-bearing inclusions in iron-meteorites Caddo County and Zagora

Our mineralogical and chemical studies of silicate-bearing inclusions, in the two IAB iron meteorites Caddo County and Zagora, suggest their classification as Odessa type. Mineral and chemical composition of the inclusions in both meteorites is very similar. Silicates show little chemical heterogeneity. The inclusions differ, however, in shape, accessory mineralogy and texture.

Pel desenvolupament d'aquesta aplicació web s'han ajuntat vàries tecnologies en pràctica en l'actualitat; com són, per exemple, JSP, Struts, AJAX- que al seu torn no és una tecnologia, sinó un aglomerat de vàries d'elles-, Javascript i servlets Java.

Droits du patient: ce que le nouveau Code civil va modifier dans les soins aux enfants [Patients' rights: what the new swiss civil code will change in the health care of children].

Recent progress in medicine allow to provide treatment, to cure or to extend the lifespan of people that would have not survived before. Doctors and healthcare providers have become indispensable actors in Western societies. This is particularly true for children's health issues. With the new information technologies, knowledge is now available to everyone, which enables patients to dialog on an equal footing with the physician. Nowadays, therapeutic choices are discussed and negotiated. The new tensions caused by this relationship between therapist and patient have created the need for new regulations. The Swiss Confederation has modified its Civil Code with the objective of a better protection of vulnerable individuals. This article summarizes the consequences of the new regulations with regard to the care and treatment provided to children.

Capilaroscopia en el Síndrome de Sjögren Primario

La Síndrome de Sjögren primària (SSp) és una malaltia inflamatòria crònica autoimmune que afecta a les glàndules exocrines. Cursa amb símptomes de sequedat generalitzada i un terç dels pacients presenten afecció extraglandular, incloent Fenomen de Raynaud. Per investigar l'existència d'un patró capilaroscòpic típic o suggestiu de SSp es va practicar videocapilaroscòpia a 107 pacients, analitzant posteriorment les possibles relacions entre les alteracions trobades i el perfil immunològic i /o l'afecció sistèmica. No es va trobar un patró capilaroscòpic característic del SSp, però vàrem trobar mes alteracions capilaroscòpicas en els pacients amb afecció extraglandular, suggerint una utilitat pronòstica de la capilaroscòpia
