Sr2Fe1-xZnxNbO6-x/2 (0 <= x <= 0.5) and Sr2Fe1-xCuxNbO6-x/2 (0.01 <= x <= 0.05) with the double perovskite structure have been synthesized. The crystal structures at room temperature were determined from Rietveld refinements of X-ray powder diffraction data. The plots of the imaginary parts of the impedance spectrum, Z '', and the electric modulus, M '', versus log (frequency), possess maxima for both curves separated by less than a half decade in frequency with associated capacities of 2 nF. The enhancement of the overall conductivity Of Sr2Fe1-xMxNbO6-x/2 (M = Cu and Zn) is observed, as increases from 2.48 (3) x 10(-4) S/cm for Sr2FeNbO6 to 3.82 (5) x 10(-3) S/cm for Sr2Fe0.8Zn0.2NbO5.9 at 673 K. Sr2Fe0.8Zn0.2NbO5.9 is chemically stable under the oxygen partial pressure from 1 atm to 10(-22) atm at 873 K. The p and n-type electronic conductions are dominant under oxidizing and reducing conditions, respectively, suggesting a small-polaron hopping mechanism of electronic conduction.

A distorted layered perovskite compound BaTb2Mn2O7 was synthesized by the solid state reaction in pure argon. There is a structural phase transition in the BaTb2Mn2O7 compound. The phase transition was characterized by the DSC and high temperature Xray diffraction. The heat capacity of BaTb2Mn2O7 was calculated. The thermal anomaly corresponding to the phase transition was observed at about 740K. The lattice parameters were calculated by the CELL program for BaTb2Mn2O7, It has Tb-type orthorhombic symmetry with a = 0.3908 nm, b = 0.3866 nm, c = 2.0163 nm, and space group Immm at room temperature. With the increase of temperature, the lattice parameters gradually increase until 673K. From 723K to 973K, the compound translates to tetragonal with a = 0.39078 nm, c = 2.0277 nm and S.G. I4/mmm. This result is fairly in accordance with that of heat capacity.

Five Ln(2)SrMCuO(6.5) oxides (M = Co, Ln = Y and Ho; M = Fe, Ln = Y, Ho, and Dy) were synthesized, and their crystal structures, IR spectra, and physical properties were studied. They have almost the same structure and crystallize in orthorhombic systems. Below room temperature, Y2SrFeCuO6.5, a known layered oxide, shows antiferromagnetic behavior, but the four new oxides are paramagnetic. Y2SrFeCuO6.5 fits the Curie-Weiss law in the temperature range 300-100 K, but Y2SrCoCuO6.5 shows complex magnetic behavior because of the disproportion of some Co+3 to Co+2 and Co+4 The five oxides are all p-type semiconductors in the measured temperature range and have large electrical resistivities at room temperature.

A series of sample having the stoichiometry La4BaCu5-xMnxO12 (x = 0 similar to 5) were prepared, characterized by XRD, IR and H-2 - TPR and used as catalyst for NO + CO reaction. It was found that they have 5 - layered ABO(3) - type structure. The results of H-2 - TPR showed that the Cu ion was more easily reduced while a part of them was replaced by Mn ions. Their catalytic behavior to NO + CO reaction was investigate, La4BaCu2Mn3O12 showed the highest catalyst activity for the reaction than the others. The reaction mechanism is discussed:the activity of the catalysts could be attributed to the Cu ions, but it was improved when Mn ions took the place of some Cu ions.

The mixed oxides, including YBa2Cu3O7, LaBa2Cu3O7, LaBaCu2O5, La2BaCu3O7, La4BaCu5O12 with perovskite structure, were prepared. The catalysts were characterized by means of chemical analysis, XRD, TPD and TPR method. It was found that they were the active catalysts for the NO decomposition and NO reduction by CO. The existance of Cu3+ is an important factor to give the catalysts a high activity for the NO reduction by CO.

Superconductor mixed oxides were often used as catalysts at higher temperature in gas phase oxidations, and considered not suitable for lower temperature reactions in the liquid-solid phase; here the catalysis of YBa2Cu3O7+/-x and Y2BaCuO5+/-x in the phenol hydroxylation at lower temperature with H2O2 as oxygen donor was studied, and found that the superconductor YBa2Cu3O7+/-x, has no catalytic activity for phenol hydroxylation, but Y2BaCuO5+/-x does, even has better catalytic activity and stability than most previously reported ones. With the studies of catalysis of other simple metal oxides and perovskite-like mixed oxides, a radical substitution mechanism is proposed and the experimental facts are explained clearly, and draw a conclusion that the perovskite-like mixed oxides with (AO)(ABO(3)) and (AO)2(ABO(3)) structure have better catalytic activity than the simple perovskite oxides with (ABO(3))(3) structure alone, and (AO) structure unit is the key for the mixed oxides to have the phenol hydroxylation activity. No pollution of this process is very important for its further industrial application.

The mixed oxides LaNiO3, La0.1Sr0.9NiO3, La2NiO4 and LaSrNiO4 were prepared and used as catalysts for the direct decomposition of NO. The catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, XPS, O-2-TPD, NO-TPD and chemical analysis. By comparing the physico-chemical properties and catalytic activity for NO decomposition, a conclusion could be drawn as follows. The direct decomposition of NO over perovskite and related mixed oxide catalysts follows a redox mechanism. The lower valent metal ions Ni2+ and disordered oxygen vacancies seem to be the active sites in the redox process. The oxygen vacancy plays an important role favorable for the adsorption and activation of NO molecules on one hand and on the other hand for increasing the mobility of lattice oxygen which is beneficial to the reproduction of active sites. The presence of oxygen vacancies is one of the indispensable factors to give the mixed oxides a steady activity for NO decomposition.

We present the synthesis of AgLnMo(2)O(8) compounds with Ln = La-Nd and Sm. These compounds represent a scheelite-type structure characterized by MoO4- tetrahedrons. IR spectra show five absorption peaks in the region of 1000-400cm(-1), around 800cm(-1) and 400cm(-1), which correspond to the modes of the tetrahedral MoO42- groups. All of AgLnMo(2)O(8) (Ln = La-Nd and Sm) oxides are dielectric materials at room temperature. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility ofAgLnMo(2)O(8) (Ln = Ce-Nd and Sm) shows Curie-Weiss law behavior from 100K to 300K. This indicates that both Ce and Pr exist in +3 oxidation state in AgLnMo(2)O(8). For AgLaMo2O8, diamagnetic properties are found as expected.

A series of (AO) (ABO(3))(n)(A = La, B = Ni, n = 1 similar to 4) type mixed oxides were synthesized and characterized by means of XRD, XPS, IR, TPD, TPR. Their structure characteristics and redox properties were studied. The nonstoichiometry (lambda) of oxygen and the valence of transition metal Ni were determined by using chemical analysis method. The catalytic activities of this series of mixed oxides for complete oxidation of CO and CH4 were examined and the relationships among activity, composition and structure were discussed.

The redox potential, surface composition and oxygen species of a series of complex oxides LaMn1-xFexO3 (x=0-1) having perovskite structure (ABO(3)) have been investigated by means of XI'S. The variation of binding energies referring to Mn2p and Fe 2p under different treatment offerred an obvious evidence of redox between Mn and Fe, which could be expressed as Mn4+ + Fe(3-delta)+ Mn(4-delta)+ Fe3+ Feat Through computer fit three kinds of adsorbed oxygen species (O-I, O-II, O-III) have been evaluated based on the XPS spectra of O1s. From the variation of contents of different oxygen species, it could be concluded that. the redox occuring in the surface might be related with the adsorbed oxygen species O-I and O-II, furthermore the possibility of transfer of electron between adsorption site and oxygen was also discussed.

A series of rare earth hydroxides and oxides ultrafine powders have been prepared by precipitation method using alcohol as dispersive and protective reagent. It was first to find that the crystallite size of cubic rare earth oxides had Lanthanide shrinking effect, but average crystal lattice distortion rate possessed lanthanide swelling effect;the change of diffraction intensity with atomic number presented an inverted W type, and double peaks structure was formed.

The investigations into structural changes which occur during adsorbent modification and the adsorption mechanisms are essential for an effective design of adsorption systems. Manganese oxides were impregnated onto diatomite to form the type known as delta-birnessite. Initial investigations established the effectiveness of manganese oxides-modified diatomite (MOMD) to remove basic and reactive dyes from aqueous solution. The adsorption capacity of MOMD for methylene blue (MB), hydrolysed reactive black (RB) and hydrolysed reactive yellow (RY) was 320, 419, and 204 mg/g, respectively. Various analytical techniques were used to characterise the structure and the mechanisms of the dye adsorption process onto MOMD such as Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic absorption spectrometry (A.A.). A small shift to higher values of the cl-spacing of dye/MOMD was observed indicating that a small amount of the dye molecules were intercalated in the MOMD structure and other molecules were adsorbed on the external surface of MOMD. Two mechanisms of dye adsorption onto MOMD were proposed; intercalation of the dye in the octahedral layers and adsorption of the dye on the MOMD external surface. Moreover, the results demonstrated that the MOMD structure was changed upon insertion of MB and RY with an obvious decrease in the intensity of the second main peak of the MOMD X-ray pattern. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are a group of plant secondary metabolites with carcinogenic and hepatotoxic properties. When PA-producing plants contaminate crops, toxins can be transferred through the food chain and cause illness in humans and animals, most notably hepatic veno-occlusive disease. Honey has been identified as a direct risk of human exposure. The European Food Safety Authority has recently identified four groups of PAs that are of particular importance for food and feed: senecionine-type, lycopsamine-type, heliotrine-type and monocrotaline-type. Liquid or gas chromatography methods are currently used to detect PAs but there are no rapid screening assays available commercially. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a rapid multiplex ELISA test for the representatives of three groups of alkaloids (senecionine, lycopsamine and heliotrine types) that would be used as a risk-management tool for the screening of these toxic compounds in food and feed. The method was validated for honey and feed matrices and was demonstrated to have a detection capability less than 25 µg/kg for jacobine, lycopsamine, heliotrine and senecionine. The zinc reduction step introduced to the extraction procedure allows for the additional detection of the presence of N-oxides of PAs. This first multiplex immunoassay for PA detection with N-oxide reduction can be used for the simultaneous screening of 21 samples for >12 PA analytes. Honey samples (n?=?146) from various origins were analysed for PA determination. Six samples were determined to contain measurable PAs >25 µg/kg by ELISA which correlated to >10 µg/kg by LC-MS/MS.
