Jaeger Family Scrapbook - Accession 211 - M94 (120)

The Jaeger Family Scrapbook titled “The House That Papa Built”, written by Ella Jaeger Smith, contains photographs and history of the family house built by Henry John Jaeger in Florence,SC as well as biographical sketches of various members of the Jaeger family. The scrapbook contains information on Winthrop graduates Janet Lawrence Jaeger (Class of 1907); Lillian Jaeger Spratt (Class of 1910); Mary Jaeger Lewis (attended Winthrop); Blanche Jaeger Patrick (Class of 1917); and Ella Jaeger Smith (Class of 1923).

Marion Allan Wright Papers - Accession 197

The Marion Allan Wright Papers consist of correspondence, a journal, autobiographical writings, bibliographies, biographical data, essays, speeches, book reviews, short stories, poems, letters to the editor, oral history transcripts and other papers. Subjects include the death penalty, the civil rights movement, civil liberties, libraries in South Carolina and politics. Correspondents include R. Beverly Herbert, L. Mendel Rivers, J, William Fulbright, Sam Ervin, Jr., Reverend James P. Dees, Preston Wright (Wright's brother) and other relatives. See Acc 48 for an earlier accession of Wright papers and the oral history collection for recorded interviews with Wright.

Civil War Song - Accession 56 - M26 (38)

The Civil War Song consists of a photocopy of handwritten lyrics of the American Civil War song entitled, “The Bonny Blue Flag”. This document was produced in the 1860s.

City of Aiken Postcards - Accession 57 - M27 (39)

The City of Aiken Postcards collection consists of five unused and undated postcards depicting scenes from Aiken, SC including Hitchcock Woods, Polo at Aiken, The Race Tracks at Aiken, Thoroughbred Trials, and the residence of Mrs. W.R. Grace, Barnard Road.

Interview with Richard Dinning

In his October 17, 2012 interview with Robert Ryals, Richard Dinning details his thoughts and memories as an army air corps cadet at Winthrop. Dinning includes details of his career in the Army Air Corp during WWII. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections Oral History Program.

The Itinerant, or Wesleyan Methodist Visiter is a newspaper of the Methodist Church that was published every two weeks in Baltimore, MD. The bound issues in the collection extend from November 10, 1830 to October 12, 1831.

South Carolina Federal Feminist Credit Union Records - Accession 106 - M45 (60)

The South Carolina Federal Feminist Credit Union Records consists of a charter, newspaper clippings, photographs, statements, minutes, correspondence, memoranda and brochures relating to the creation and early history of the Credit Union, the first of its kind in the Southeast and the tenth one established in the nation. The Credit Union dissolved on September 1, 1977.

Rock Hill Fire Department Records - Accession 242 - M102 (131)

The Rock Hill Fire Department Records consist correspondence from W.H. Wylie, for whom Lake Wylie is named, to prominent Rock Hillian Mr. W.T. Roddey and to the Rock Hill Fire Department. Also included is a program book for the 33rd Annual Convention of South Carolina State Firemen’s Association held in Rock Hill in 1928. The program book lists officers of the Association, committee appointments, fire chiefs, in SC, Rock Hill city officials with brief biographical sketches and sketches of the history of SC State Firemen’s Association, city of Rock Hill and Winthrop College.

Women's Club of Rock Hill Records - Accession 219

The Women's Club of Rock Hill's mission is to further the cultural, educational, and social interest of its members and to promote interest in Rock Hill’s civic development and welfare. The Women's Club of Rock Hill Records consist of constitutions and bylaws, histories, minutes, reports, correspondence, memoranda, program notes, brochures, newsletters, membership lists, yearbooks, questions, certificates, awards, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, and photographs. The records also relate to the thirteen affiliated clubs comprising the Woman’s Club of Rock Hill: Amateur Arts, Arts Appreciation, Book Discussion, Book Lovers, Crafts, Hearthstone, Hermitage, Home Study, Lantern, Literary, Outlook, Palmetto, and Politeia, and to other records for the South Carolina Federation of Women’s Club and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Records of various organizations not directly related to the Woman’s Club of Rock Hill are also included, such as the Tri-County Parents Without Partners, the Rock Hill Community Council, the Rock Hill Model Cities Commission, the Rock Hill Senior Center, and the South Carolina Conference on the Status of Women.

Fellowship of the Concerned Reports - Accession 40 - M15 (25)

The Fellowship of the Concerned Reports consist of two reports presented before the Fellowship in Atlanta, with one report by Marion Allan Wright describing the civil rights situation in South Carolina and the other by Father Maurice Shean of the Oratory in Rock Hill describing the work of the Rock Hill Council on Human Relations to better race relations in the city. The Fellowship was founded in 1949 and dissolved in 1970. It was an organization of southern women affiliated with the Southern Regional Council and concerned with promoting civil rights.

York County Photographs - Accession 38 - M13 (23)

One photograph depicts, the “Klan Oak” located 2 miles south of Fort Mill, Route #36. Tradition says the Ku Klux Klan in the Eastern part of York County in late 1800s gathered here. The other photograph is the school established on Saluda Street by Willie Chisholm for purpose of training black females as maids.

Dora Dee Walker Papers - Accession 104 - M44 (59)

The Dora Dee Walker Papers consist of biographical sketches and data sheets, a letter, photographs, a newspaper clipping and a copy of the history of extension work in Allendale County, all relating to Dora Walker, pioneering State leader in extension work in South Carolina.

Mr. USA Pageant Records - Accession 107 - M46 (61)

The Mr. USA Pageant Records consists of letters, news releases, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and photographs relating to the operation of the pageant and the publicity generated from the pageant. The Mr. USA Pageant was held on May 13, 1977 in Charleston, SC as a spoof of traditional beauty pageants and was sponsored by the National Organization of Women (NOW).

Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church of Chester County Records

The Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church of Chester County Records include an historical statement (1839) on its origin and development by one of its pastors Rev. John B. Davies, and copies of entries for various sessions containing information on how the church handled misconduct of its members.

Thelma Ecord Busbee Papers - Accession 29

Thelma Ecord Busbee (1910-2004) was a Civic leader and club woman from Columbia, South Carolina. The Thelma Ecord Busbee Papers consist of correspondence, reports, constitutions, financial records, program notes, and other papers relating to her many club and civic activities. The collection covers the South Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs (1950-1959), The South Carolina Status of Women’s Conference (1961-1968), the Richland-Lexington Tuberculosis Association (1961-1964), South Carolina Alert, Inc. (1961-1962), the Palmetto Outdoor Historical Drama Association (1965-1968), the South Carolina State Library Board (1967-1968), the Lexington County Hospital Auxiliary (1970-1972), and the South Carolina Council for the Common Good (1966).
