The Routledge Handbook of Irish Criminology is the first edited collection of its kind to bring together the work of leading Irish criminologists in a single volume. While Irish criminology can be characterised as a nascent but dynamic discipline, it has much to offer the Irish and international reader due to the unique historical, cultural, political, social and economic arrangements that exist on the island of Ireland.

‘Making space for queer-identifying religious youth’ (2011–2013) is an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)-funded project, which seeks to shed light on youth cultures, queer community and religiosity. While non-heterosexuality is often associated with secularism, and some sources cast religion as automatically negative or harmful to the realisation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) identity (or ‘coming out’), we explore how queer Christian youth negotiate sexual–religious identities. There is a dearth of studies on queer religious youth, yet an emerging and continuing interest in the role of digital technologies for the identities of young people. Based on interviews with 38 LGBT, ‘religious’ young people, this article examines Facebook, as well as wider social networking sites and the online environment and communities. Engaging with the key concept of ‘online embodiment’, this article takes a closer analysis of embodiment, emotion and temporality to approach the role of Facebook in the lives of queer religious youth. Furthermore, it explores the methodological dilemmas evoked by the presence of Facebook in qualitative research with specific groups of young people.

Joanne Belknap’s recent ASC presidential address included a critique of Convict Criminology’s activism. A number of concerns were provided, although of particular importance here are, first, Belknap’s concerns regarding the absence of ‘marginalized voices’ in the Convict Criminology network. Second, the issue of defining how non-con academics function as Convict Criminology group members. This paper responds to these criticisms. Specifically, we discuss the question of ‘representation’ in BCC and our attempts to remedy this issue. We also draw attention to the academic activism that British Convict Criminology is conducting in Europe. This includes a detailed discussion of the collaborative research-activist activities that involve non-con as well as ex-con academic network members. We demonstrate how these collaborations explain the vital group membership role that non-con academics assume in the activism of Convict Criminology.

Esta dissertação pretende analisar as práticas de dois artistas contemporâneos, Ryan Trecartin e Jacolby Satterwhite, nomeadamente a nível do modo como trabalham a intersecção do vídeo digital e da performance como forma de manifestação de corporalizações queer através do corpo masculino. Mais concretamente, interessa-nos focar processos de “queerificação” e de produção de corpos que emergem intrinsecamente pelo médium digital, e que exploram as possibilidades transformativas do médium tanto a nível de representação, criação e mutação de formas, como a nível comunicacional e de possibilidades de subjectivação e corporalizações múltiplas. Para tal, partimos dos dois campos teóricos que se mostraram mais pertinentes relativamente aos processos artísticos em análise, nomeadamente: a teoria queer pelo modo como definiu o carácter performativo das normas de género e as categorizações identitárias sexuais como suporte da heteronormatividade, identificando estratégias para a sua re-significação; e o pensamento sobre a relação do corpo com o médium digital, pelo modo como delineou processos de corporalização através da tecnologia digital. A análise dos processos artísticos de Ryan Trecartin e Jacolby Satterwhite demonstra como a arte contemporânea é um território fértil não apenas para a exposição de matrizes normativas de opressão, mas também para a criação de mundos radicalmente queer em que, fazendo uso do potencial transformativo do médium digital, se manifestam realidades e corpos onde a normatividade é totalmente implodida.
