Compétences en santé déficientes: obstacle à une prise en charge optimale [Low health literacy: barrier to optimal care].

Health literacy is defined as "the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions." Low health literacy mainly affects certain populations at risk limiting access to care, interaction with caregivers and self-management. If there are screening tests, their routine use is not advisable and recommended interventions in practice consist rather to reduce barriers to patient-caregiver communication. It is thus important to include not only population's health literacy but also communication skills of a health system wich tend to become more complex.

Impact de la consommation de sel sur la santé: les croyances de la population suisse [Impact of salt intake on health: beliefs of the Swiss population].

Excessive salt intake increases the risk of developing hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Sodium intake remains high both in developed and emerging countries. The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health has ordered a national survey on the salt intake in Switzerland, realized in different centers. This article presents the results of the awareness of the Swiss population concerning the relationship between excessive salt intake and health. This survey reveals a lack of knowledge regarding the association between high salt intake and cardiovascular disease, the sodium content of usual food, and the recommended daily value of sodium intake. Strategies to reduce salt consumption need to be reinforced by collaborations between health authorities and health care professionals.

Viure entre molses: estudi del "Lago" de Sant Feliu de Pallerols i dels organismes que viuen a les molses

Treball de recerca realitzat per un alumne d’ensenyament secundari i guardonat amb un Premi CIRIT per fomentar l'esperit científic del Jovent l’any 2010. El motiu central d’aquest treball és esbrinar quins són els organismes que viuen a les molses i el lloc d’estudi és el sortidor que hi ha al firal de Sant Feliu de Pallerols, més conegut entre els seus habitants per “el Lago”. Es conclou que la tosca del sortidor ha anat augmentant amb el pas dels anys i està en transformació constant. D’altra banda, només hi ha una espècie de molsa, Cratoneuron Commutatum. S'han trobat gran quantitat i diversitat d'organismes de tots els regnes excepte el dels fongs repartits en les quatre orientacions. Tots els organismes identificats segons la bibliografia consultada poden viure a les molses. Les característiques fisicoquímiques de l'aigua permeten explicar la formació de la tosca. Quant al sortidor, és estable i no es preveu, de moment, que pugui caure o volcar-se.
