The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has requested the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) Hazardous Waste Site Health Assessment Program to evaluate the health impacts of the proposed remedial strategy to be implemented at the Iowa City Former Manufactured Gas Plant Site (FMGP). The proposed remedial strategy to be implemented incorporates the following: 1) access restrictions through the continued operation of the Iowa-Illinois Manor and restriction on any future water well installation through continued implementation of a local environmental covenant; 2) previous site decommissioning activities that have restricted access to site contaminants; and 3) continued monitoring of the groundwater to ensure that contaminant levels in groundwater remain the same or are declining in concentration. This health consultation addresses potential health risks to people from exposure to the soil and vapors within the property. Health consultation : Rolfe aboveground storage tank petroleum bulk plant targeted brownfields assessment, Railroad Street and 300th Avenue, Rolfe, Pocahontas County, Iowa (2005)

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has requested the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) Hazardous Waste Site Health Assessment Program evaluate future health impacts of exposures at a former aboveground storage tank site located in Rolfe, Iowa. The former aboveground storage tank site is located to the southwest of the intersection of Railroad Street and 300th Avenue in Rolfe, Iowa. This site is undergoing a Targeted Brownfields Assessment conducted by the Contaminated Sites Section of the IDNR. This health consultation addresses potential health risks to people from future exposure to the soil within the property boundary, and any health impacts resulting from contaminated groundwater beneath the site property. The information in this health consultation was current at the time of writing. Data that emerges later could alter this document’s conclusions and recommendations.

Contemporary engagements within corridors of the past: temporal elasticity, graffiti, and the materiality of St. Rock Street, Barcelona

In a medieval Barcelonan side-street, urine, rubbish, and a bewildering array of graphic imagery splatters the narrowing walls between two major thoroughfares. A contemporary conflict between residents, unknown artists and others is played out using banners, bottles, stickers, posters, stencils, spray paint, and bodily substances. In this shadowed liminality, local and global debates are superimposed upon substructures constructed from disease, prostitution, and the Saint of the Plague. The continuing urban struggle constitutes temporal statements of dirt and purity, violence and humour, dominance and resistance, death and salvation. Like the renovated facades masking the crumbling remains of structures long neglected, the government’s literal whitewashing of the art is a temporal cover-up of a discursive symptom stretching from deeply embedded preconditions. However, from his niche in the angular bend of the alley bearing his name, the statue of St. Rock remains unblinkingly staring, raised above the contestations expressed below.

El sistema verbal español según Samuel Gili Gaya

En este artículo nos centramos en uno de los temas de la gramática española más complejos: la conjugación verbal. A partir de la obra de Samuel Gili Gaya (1961), Curso superior de sintaxis española, analizamos en obras gramaticales representativas de la segunda mitad del siglo XX el estudio de este tema considerando la presencia de las teorías de Gili Gaya. Con ello, pretendemos comprobar nuestra hipótesis inicial: las ideas lingüísticas de este autor suponen, en gran medida, la unión de la Gramática tradicional con enfoques posteriores.

Comment Samuel devint prophète: Analyse du récit de 1 Samuel 3 dans son contexte

Le récit de 1 S 3 raconte comment une nuit Yhwh essaya à plusieurs reprises de se révéler au jeune Samuel, alors serviteur au sanctuaire de Silo. Instruit par son maître Éli, le garçon put finalement répondre à Yhwh. Il devint alors récepteur d'un message divin. Yhwh annonce un événement effrayant qui va « faire tinter les oreilles de quiconque en entendra parler ». Au matin, Samuel rapporte la parole divine à Éli, son maître. À la fin du récit le lecteur apprend que Yhwh continue de se évéler à Samuel. Voilà en résumé comment, selon le récit de 1 S 3, Samuel devint prophète. Ce chapitre est interprété par les chercheurs de manières très différentes. On peut néanmoins discerner deux tendances d'interprétation : a) 1 S 3 serait composé selon un certain genre littéraire : il s'agirait d'un « récit de vocation », voire d'un « récit de rêve d'incubation » ou encore d'un « récit de théophanie onirique ». b) Le récit 1 S 3 a des liens forts avec le récit de 1 S 1-2, récit d'ouverture des livres de Samuel qui rapporte comment Samuel a été dédié au sanctuaire de Silo par sa mère Anne et comment et dans quelles circonstances il a grandi au sanctuaire. Étant donné ces liens, certains chercheurs estiment que les deux récits, à un moment donné, ont été réunis en une seule narration portant sur la naissance de Samuel et sa jeunesse au sanctuaire de Silo. Cette narration de 1 S 1-3 aurait été à l'origine indépendante des récits suivants (1 S 4-6) qui forment une entité autonome en commun avec 2 S 6, le soi-disant « récit de l'arche ». Le présent article présentera et discutera ces propositions en dialogue avec des idées d'autres chercheurs ainsi que des suggestions personnelles. J'aborderai donc la question du genre du récit, et celle de la relation avec les récits qui l'encadrent. Pour cette seconde question il sera important d'examiner de très près l'oracle de Yhwh se trouvant au coeur du récit (v. 11-14) et de poser la question de l'événement qu'il vise. À la fin de la contribution les questions concernant le milieu et l'âge du récit seront abordées.
