Information regarding the use of growth regulators in sunn hemp is still scarce, especially on the physiologic quality of seeds and growth seedlings. In this aspect, product knowledge and application rate stands out as relevant factors in production of quality seeds. This work aimed to evaluated the effect of the foliar application of growth regulators (mepiquat chloride, etil-trinexapac and paclobutrazol) in different rates (0; 75; 150; 225 and 300 g ha(-1)), on the physiological quality of seeds and growth seedlings of Crotalaria juncea cultivated in no-tillage system. The treatments were disposed in randomized complete block design in factorial scheme 3 x 5 (regulators x rates of application), with four replications. The results were submitted to the variance analysis, with the growth regulators compared by Tukey test and the rates for polynomial regression. Not if recommended the application of mepiquat chloride in sunn hemp culture by reducing the potential of seeds germination and dry biomass of seedlings. The etil-trinexapac must be applied in rate of 300 g ha(-1), based on the reduction of moisture content and the electrical conductivity of seeds, the greater total length of seedlings and dry biomass of seedlings. The paclobutrazol must be applied in rate of 75 g ha(-1), considering the potential and speed of seeds germination.

Due to the small and the round seeds represent a rather high proportion of an ear, this experiment viewed to study the effects of those factors on seed germinative performance in the field as well as on the plant traits related to grain yield. Six treatment combinations replicated five times were sown in Votuporanga/SP on 08/22/2008. Flat shaped (C) and round shaped (R) seeds were made to go through flat round and oblong hole screens which resulted in the following treatments: 1. C1: seeds remaining on the top of a 23/64 '' round hole screen, 2. C2G: 21/64 '', 3. C3M: 17/64 '' or 16/64 '', 4. R2GM: medium length seeds remaining on the top of 13 x 3/4 '' oblong hole screen, 5. R3M: medium length seeds remaining on a 12 x 3/4 '' (from 1 to 2 mm bigger than R3), and 6. R3: 12 x 3/4 ''. The soil of the experimental area was submitted to a no-till cultivation system and the rows were set 0.6 m apart from one another. Fifteen days after emergence (DAE), the plants were thinned to a population of 66,000 plants/ha. Harvest took place 115 DAE and the mean yield was of 12,498 kg ha(-1). Based on the results it was concluded that only the initial growth of the plants is significantly affected by seed size. Plant traits such as plant height, ear insertion height, culm diameter, number of grains per year, grain weight and size as well as grain yield evaluated 40 or more DAE are not significantly affected by seed size or seed shape.

The high quality of seed trading for producers is very important to obtain high productivity. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of different periods of artificial seed aging on contents of sugars, proteins, amino acids and ions, on imbibition solution of electrical conductivity test, as well as its relationships with standard germination and vigor in bean seeds at the Perola cultivar. The research was carried out at the Laboratory of Seed Analysis - Faculdade de Engenharia - Unesp - Campus de Ilha Solteira. The experimental design was in completely randomized blocks. The seeds were submitted to eight accelerated aging conditions (zero, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144 and 168 hours). The seed germination, seed vigor and leakage contents in exudates of bulk conductivity were Influenced by the increase in the time of seed exposition to accelerated aging. After seventy-two hours of exposition to the aging, a considerable decline in seed germination and vigor was observed. There was also an increase of leakage contents, such as amino acids, sugars, potassium and phosphorus ions. The increase of leakage contents is inversely related to seeds germination and vigor.

The green corn demand, production of quality bean grain and better use of land and water resources can be used by small farmers through the intercropping of common bean and green corn in off-season crops. Field experiments were conducted in the Polo Regional Extremo Oeste-APTA, in Andradina -São Paulo State, in 2005 and 2006. The objective was to evaluate the performance of green corn cultivars grown in single crop and intercropped with common bean. The randomized blocks design with 8 treatments constituted by the combination of two corn (CATIVERDE 02 and XB 7012) and three common bean cultivars of different growth habits: IPR Colibri (I), IPR Juriti (II) and IAC Carioca (III), with four repetitions was used. The influence of the intercropping on the performance of corn was not significant. The hybrid XB 7012 was more productive in intercropping and in single crop. The hybrid production more 8000 commercials ears and lengt ears when compared with the variety. The intercropping with the IPR Juriti or IPR Colibri cultivars were the most profitable for the producer.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the agronomic performance of corn hybrids (AG 8088, BG 7049, CD 327, CD 384, CD 351 and CD 321) at function of the foliar application of two fungicides (piraclostrobina + epoxiconazol and azoxistrobina + ciproconazol) at pre-tasseling of the culture. The experiment was conducted In Selviria - MS, in the experimental Farm of the Faculty of Engineering of Ilha Solteira - SP (UNESP), Brazil, during the harvest of 2008/09. The treatments were disposed in randomized complete block design in a factorial scheme 6 x 3 (corn hybrids x fungicides), with four replications. There was valued plant height and of insertion of the ear, number of rows of grains by ear and of grains by row, incidence of foliar diseases, weight of hundred grains and productivity. The results were submitted to the analysis of variance, and the hybrids and fungicides compared by Tukey test (P<0.05). For data analysis were used the software SISVAR. The foliar application of the fungicides piraclostrobina + epoxiconazol and azoxistrobina + ciproconazol in pre-tasseling of the culture the corn reduced the incidence of foliar diseases, nevertheless, was not sufficient to provoke growth of productivity. The hybrids CD 321, AG 8088 and CD 351 were highlighted by the higher yield obtained.
