Lepton masses and mixing angles via localization of 5-dimensional fields in the bulk are revisited in the context of Randall-Sundrum models. The Higgs is assumed to be localized on the IR brane. Three cases for neutrino masses are considered: (a) The higher-dimensional neutrino mass operator (LH.LH), (b) Dirac masses, and (c) Type I seesaw with bulk Majorana mass terms. Neutrino masses and mixing as well as charged lepton masses are fit in the first two cases using chi(2) minimization for the bulk mass parameters, while varying the O(1) Yukawa couplings between 0.1 and 4. Lepton flavor violation is studied for all the three cases. It is shown that large negative bulk mass parameters are required for the right-handed fields to fit the data in the LH.LH case. This case is characterized by a very large Kaluza-Klein (KK) spectrum and relatively weak flavor-violating constraints at leading order. The zero modes for the charged singlets are composite in this case, and their corresponding effective 4-dimensional Yukawa couplings to the KK modes could be large. For the Dirac case, good fits can be obtained for the bulk mass parameters, c(i), lying between 0 and 1. However, most of the ``best-fit regions'' are ruled out from flavor-violating constraints. In the bulk Majorana terms case, we have solved the profile equations numerically. We give example points for inverted hierarchy and normal hierarchy of neutrino masses. Lepton flavor violating rates are large for these points. We then discuss various minimal flavor violation schemes for Dirac and bulk Majorana cases. In the Dirac case with minimal-flavor-violation hypothesis, it is possible to simultaneously fit leptonic masses and mixing angles and alleviate lepton flavor violating constraints for KK modes with masses of around 3 TeV. Similar examples are also provided in the Majorana case.

Accurate supersymmetric spectra are required to confront data from direct and indirect searches of supersymmetry. SuSeFLAV is a numerical tool capable of computing supersymmetric spectra precisely for various supersymmetric breaking scenarios applicable even in the presence of flavor violation. The program solves MSSM RGEs with complete 3 x 3 flavor mixing at 2-loop level and one loop finite threshold corrections to all MSSM parameters by incorporating radiative electroweak symmetry breaking conditions. The program also incorporates the Type-I seesaw mechanism with three massive right handed neutrinos at user defined mass scales and mixing. It also computes branching ratios of flavor violating processes such as l(j) -> l(i)gamma, l(j) -> 3 l(i), b -> s gamma and supersymmetric contributions to flavor conserving quantities such as (g(mu) - 2). A large choice of executables suitable for various operations of the program are provided. Computer: Personal Computer, Work-Station. Operating system: Linux, Unix. Classification: 11.6. Nature of problem: Determination of masses and mixing of supersymmetric particles within the context of MSSM with conserved R-parity with and without the presence of Type-I seesaw. Inter-generational mixing is considered while calculating the mass spectrum. Supersymmetry breaking parameters are taken as inputs at a high scale specified by the mechanism of supersymmetry breaking. RG equations including full inter-generational mixing are then used to evolve these parameters up to the electroweak breaking scale. The low energy supersymmetric spectrum is calculated at the scale where successful radiative electroweak symmetry breaking occurs. At weak scale standard model fermion masses, gauge couplings are determined including the supersymmetric radiative corrections. Once the spectrum is computed, the program proceeds to various lepton flavor violating observables (e.g., BR(mu -> e gamma), BR(tau -> mu gamma) etc.) at the weak scale. Solution method: Two loop RGEs with full 3 x 3 flavor mixing for all supersymmetry breaking parameters are used to compute the low energy supersymmetric mass spectrum. An adaptive step size Runge-Kutta method is used to solve the RGEs numerically between the high scale and the electroweak breaking scale. Iterative procedure is employed to get the consistent radiative electroweak symmetry breaking condition. The masses of the supersymmetric particles are computed at 1-loop order. The third generation SM particles and the gauge couplings are evaluated at the 1-loop order including supersymmetric corrections. A further iteration of the full program is employed such that the SM masses and couplings are consistent with the supersymmetric particle spectrum. Accidental spills and improper disposal of industrial effluent/sludge containing heavy metals onto the open land or into subsurface result in soil and water contamination. Detailed investigations are carried out to identify the source of contamination of heavy metals in an industrial suburb near Bangalore in India. Detailed investigation of ground water and subsurface soil analysis for various heavy metals has been carried out. Ground water samples were collected in the entire area through the cluster of borewells. Subsurface soil samples were collected from near borewells which were found to contain heavy metals. Water samples and soils samples (after acid digestion) were analysed as per APHO-standard method of analysis. While the results of Zn, Ni and Cd showed that they are within allowable limits in the soil, the ground water and soils in the site have concentration of Cr+6 far exceeding the allowable limits (up to 832 mg/kg). Considering the topography of the area, ground water movement and results of chromium concentration in the borewells and subsurface it was possible to identify the origin, zone of contamination and the migration path of Cr+6. The results indicated that the predominant mechanism of migration of Cr+6 is by diffusion.

We have conceived a supersymmetric Type II seesaw model at TeV scale, which has some additional particles consisting of scalar and fermionic triplet Higgs states, whose masses are around a few hundred GeV. In this particular model, we have studied constraints on the masses of triplet states arising from the lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes, such as mu -> 3e and mu -> e gamma. We have analyzed the implications of these constraints on other observable quantities such as the muon anomalous magnetic moment and the decay patterns of scalar triplet Higgses. Scalar triplet Higgs states can decay into leptons and into supersymmetric fields. We have found that the constraints from LFV can affect these various decay modes.

In view of the recent measurement of the reactor mixing angle theta(13) and updated limit on BRd(mu -> e gamma) by the MEG experiment, we reexamine the charged lepton flavor violations in a framework of the supersymmetric type II seesaw mechanism. The supersymmetric type II seesaw predicts a strong correlation between BR(mu -> e gamma) and BR(tau -> mu gamma) mainly in terms of the neutrino mixing angles. We show that such a correlation can be determined accurately after the measurement of theta(13). We compute different factors that can affect this correlation and show that the minimal supergravity-like scenarios, in which slepton masses are taken to be universal at the high scale, predict 3.5 <= BR(tau -> mu gamma)/= BR(mu -> e gamma) <= 30 for normal hierarchical neutrino masses. Any experimental indication of deviation from this prediction would rule out the minimal models of the supersymmetric type II seesaw. We show that the current MEG limit puts severe constraints on the light sparticle spectrum in the minimal supergravity model if the seesaw scale lies within 10(13)-10(15) GeV. It is shown that these constraints can be relaxed and a relatively light sparticle spectrum can be obtained in a class of models in which the soft mass of a triplet scalar is taken to be nonuniversal at the high scale.

We consider the Randall-Sundrum (RS) setup to be a theory of flavor, as an alternative to Froggatt-Nielsen models instead of as a solution to the hierarchy problem. The RS framework is modified by taking the low-energy brane to be at the grand unified theory (GUT) scale. This also alleviates constraints from flavor physics. Fermion masses and mixing angles are fit at the GUT scale. The ranges of the bulk mass parameters are determined using a chi(2) fit taking into consideration the variation in O(1) parameters. In the hadronic sector, the heavy top quark requires large bulk mass parameters localizing the right-handed top quark close to the IR brane. Two cases of neutrino masses are considered: (a) Planck scale lepton number violation and (b) Dirac neutrino masses. Contrary to the case of weak scale RS models, both these cases give reasonable fits to the data, with the Planck scale lepton number violation fitting slightly better compared to the Dirac case. In the supersymmetric version, the fits are not significantly different except for the variation in tan beta. If the Higgs superfields and the supersymmetry breaking spurion are localized on the same brane, then the structure of the sfermion masses are determined by the profiles of the zero modes of the hypermultiplets in the bulk. Trilinear terms have the same structure as the Yukawa matrices. The resultant squark spectrum is around similar to 2-3 TeV required by the light Higgs mass to be around 125 GeV and to satisfy the flavor violating constraints.

The high level of public accountability attached to Public Sector Enterprises as a result of public ownership makes them socially responsible. The Committee of Public Undertakings in 1992 examined the issue relating to social obligations of Central Public Sector Enterprises and observed that ``being part of the `State', every Public Sector enterprise has a moral responsibility to play an active role in discharging the social obligations endowed on a welfare state, subject to the financial health of the enterprise''. It issued the Corporate Social Responsibility Guidelines in 2010 where all Central Public Enterprises, through a Board Resolution, are mandated to create a CSR budget as a specified percentage of net profit of the previous year. This paper examines the CSR activities of the biggest engineering public sector organization in India, Bharath Heavy Electricals Limited. The objectives are twofold, one, to develop a case study of the organization about the funds allocated and utilized for various CSR activities, and two, to examine its status with regard to other organizations, the 2010 guidelines, and the local socio-economic development. Secondary data analysis results show three interesting trends. One, it reveals increasing organizational social orientation with the formal guidelines in place. Two, Firms can no longer continue to exploit environmental resources and escape from their responsibilities by acting separate entities regardless of the interest of the society and Three the thrust of CSR in public sector is on inclusive growth, sustainable development and capacity building with due attention to the socio-economic needs of the neglected and marginalized sections of the society.

Structural, iono (IL) and thermoluminescence (TL) studies of Zn2SiO4:Sm3+ (1-5 mol%) nanophosphor bombarded with swift heavy ions in the fluence range 3.91 x 10(12)-21.48 x 10(12) cm(-2) have been carried out. The average crystallite sizes for pristine and ion irradiated for 3.91 x 10(12) ions cm(-2) and 21.48 x 10(12) ions cm(-2) were found to be 34, 26 and 20 nm. With increase of ion fluence, the intensity of XRD peaks decreases and FWHM increases. The peak broadening indicates the stress induced point/clusters defects produced due to heavy ion irradiation. IL studies were carried out for different Sm3+ concentrations in Zn2SiO4 by irradiating with ion fluence of 15.62 x 10(12) ions cm(-2). The characteristic emission peaks at similar to 562, 599, 646 and 701 nm were recorded by exciting Si7+ ions in the fluence range 3.91 x 10(12)-21.48 x 10(12) ions cm(-2). These peaks were attributed to (4)G(5/2)-> H-6(5/2) (562 nm), (4)G(5/2)-> H-6(7/2) (599 nm), (4)G(5/2)-> H-6(9/2) (646 nm), and (4)G(5/2)-> H-6(5/2) (701 nm) transitions of Sm3+. The highest emission was recorded at 3 mol% of Sm3+ doped Zn2SiO4. TL studies were carried out for 3 mol% Sm3+ concentration in the fluence range 3.91 x 10(12)-21.48 x 10(12) ions cm(-2). Two U glow peaks at 152 and 223 degrees C were recorded. The kinetic parameters (E, b, and s), were estimated using Chen's peak shape method. Simple glow curve structure (223 degrees C), highly resistive, increase in TL. intensity up to 19.53 x 10(12) ions cm(-2), simple trap distribution makes Zn2SiO4:Sm3+ (3 mol%) phosphor highly useful in radiation dosimetry.

This study aimed to assess soil nutrient status and heavy metal content and their impact on the predominant soil bacterial communities of mangroves of the Mahanadi Delta. Mangrove soil of the Mahanadi Delta is slightly acidic and the levels of soil nutrients such as carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous and potash vary with season and site. The seasonal average concentrations (g/g) of various heavy metals were in the range: 14810-63370 (Fe), 2.8-32.6 (Cu), 13.4-55.7 (Ni), 1.8-7.9 (Cd), 16.6-54.7 (Pb), 24.4-132.5 (Zn) and 13.3-48.2 (Co). Among the different heavy metals analysed, Co, Cu and Cd were above their permissible limits, as prescribed by Indian Standards (Co=17g/g, Cu=30 g/g, Cd=3-6 g/g), indicating pollution in the mangrove soil. A viable plate count revealed the presence of different groups of bacteria in the mangrove soil, i.e. heterotrophs, free-living N-2 fixers, nitrifyers, denitrifyers, phosphate solubilisers, cellulose degraders and sulfur oxidisers. Principal component analysis performed using multivariate statistical methods showed a positive relationship between soil nutrients and microbial load. Whereas metal content such as Cu, Co and Ni showed a negative impact on some of the studied soil bacteria.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has completed its run at 8 TeV with the experiments ATLAS and CMS having collected about 25 fb(-1) of data each. Discovery of a light Higgs boson coupled with lack of evidence for supersymmetry at the LHC so far, has motivated studies of supersymmetry in the context of naturalness with the principal focus being the third generation squarks. In this work, we analyze the prospects of the flavor violating decay mode (t) over tilde (1) -> c chi(0)(1) at 8 and 13 TeV center-of-mass energy at the LHC. This channel is also relevant in the dark matter context for the stop-coannihilation scenario, where the relic density depends on the mass difference between the lighter stop quark ((t) over tilde (1)) and the lightest neutralino (chi(0)(1)) states. This channel is extremely challenging to probe, especially for situations when the mass difference between the lighter stop quark and the lightest neutralino is small. Using certain kinematical properties of signal events we find that the level of backgrounds can be reduced substantially. We find that the prospect for this channel is limited due to the low production cross section for top squarks and limited luminosity at 8 TeV, but at the 13 TeV LHC with 100 fb(-1) luminosity, it is possible to probe top squarks with masses up to similar to 450 GeV. We also discuss how the sensitivity could be significantly improved by tagging charm jets.

Measurement of the self-coupling of the 125 GeV Higgs boson is one of the most crucial tasks for a high luminosity run of the LHC, and it can only be measured in the di-Higgs final state. In the minimal supersymmetric standard model, heavy CP even Higgs (H) can decay into a lighter 125 GeV Higgs boson (h) and, therefore, can influence the rate of di-Higgs production. We investigate the role of single H production in the context of measuring the self-coupling of h. We have found that the H -> hh decay can change the value of Higgs (h) self-coupling substantially, in a low tan beta regime where the mass of the heavy Higgs boson lies between 250 and 600 GeV and, depending on the parameter space, it may be seen as an enhancement of the self-coupling of the 125 GeV Higgs boson.

In this paper, we search for the regions of the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric standard model (pMSSM) parameter space where one can expect to have moderate Higgs mixing angle (alpha) with relatively light (up to 600 GeV) additional Higgses after satisfying the current LHC data. We perform a global fit analysis using most updated data (till December 2014) from the LHC and Tevatron experiments. The constraints coming from the precision measurements of the rare b-decays B-s -> mu(+)mu(-) and b -> s gamma are also considered. We find that low M-A(less than or similar to 350) and high tan beta(greater than or similar to 25) regions are disfavored by the combined effect of the global analysis and flavor data. However, regions with Higgs mixing angle alpha similar to 0.1-0.8 are still allowed by the current data. We then study the existing direct search bounds on the heavy scalar/pseudoscalar (H/A) and charged Higgs boson (H-+/-) masses and branchings at the LHC. It has been found that regions with low to moderate values of tan beta with light additional Higgses (mass <= 600 GeV) are unconstrained by the data, while the regions with tan beta > 20 are excluded considering the direct search bounds by the LHC-8 data. The possibility to probe the region with tan beta <= 20 at the high luminosity run of LHC are also discussed, giving special attention to the H -> hh, H/A -> t (t) over bar and H/A -> tau(+)tau(-) decay modes.
