In the context of the confrontation between the several existing possibilities of comprehension of the term “innovation” in the Linguistic fields, the main goal of this paper is to explore the comprehension of this term considering the adoption of new methodologies, based on the analysis of a specific case, of the Research Group Phonology of Portuguese: Archaic and Brazilian periods, which investigates the phonology of a past period of the language from which there are no more alive native speakers.

This article examines the lexical stress positioning in three moments of Portuguese diachrony: in its Latin origin, in medieval times (the so called Archaic Portuguese, of GalicianPortuguese), and in contemporary times, comparing Brazilian and European Portuguese. Two analysis are presented: the first one, based on non-linear Phonology theories, and the second one, based on Optimality Theory. The article shows that the rhythmic chance that affected Portuguese in its diachronic trajectory from Latin to contemporary days is not based in lexical stress positioning, which is still very close to what happened in the original Latin phase of the language.

This paper is an outline of how intonation has been analyzed and described by phonologists and phoneticians within the framework of modern linguistics. Intonation is a prosodic reality that is concerned directly with the fundamental frequency in speech. Phonetically, intonation can be described physically with special equipments. But a phonological treatment of intonation data is a hard task for linguists. This paper presents part of this discussion.

This article summarizes the findings obtained in ethnographic research conducted in 2009, which led to the dissertation entitled The weaving of movement: dance, tribalism and imaginary in everyday life of a group of students at a public school in Araraquara city defended the Universidade Estadual Paulista - Faculdade de Ciências e Letras de Araraquara, São Paulo. The objective of the survey was to collect clues to a method of movement analysis with reference to the Anthropology of the Imaginary Gilbert Durand and studies of efforts (effort shape) in Rudolf Laban. For this, we identified the main break dance moves practiced by a group of teens who attend school on weekends. The inventory movements in this dance led to a rhythmic and gestural thinking beyond the rationalization of bodily education.

The behavior of the dog (Canis lupus familiaris) depending on different universal gestural movements made by different humans individuals was studied (dog owner, person known by the dog and person unknown by the dog). It was observed that the decisive factor is the individual who performs the gestures. The behavioral response is associated with the recognition or not of an interspecific hierarchical structure, and the owner of the animal occupies the highest rank. With strangers the dog does not recognize this hierarchy, changing their response to the same gestural movements.
