The dairy sector has undergone considerable economic losses due to low fertility rates due to adverse effects of heat stress on reproduction of cows. Genetic selection for increased production, coupled with the expanding dairy to tropical areas of the planet, and global warming has further aggravated the problem of heat stress. The effects of heat stress are multifactorial and act directly or indirectly at various levels of reproductive tissues, resulting in low fertility of cows, which in practice, results in reduced reproductive efficiency in the property, reducing the producers’ profit. Some strategies related to breeding biotechnology such as fixed-time artificial insemination, embryo transfer and use of BST, can minimize these effects and improve the reproductive efficiency of the herd

Dezesseis atletas treinados em musculação (grupo AN = 7) ou em corridas de longa distância (AE = 9) foram submetidos a exercícios de máxima intensidade específicos e inespecíficos a sua modalidade de treinamento. A influência da especificidade do treinamento sobre as alterações promovidas por sessões agudas de exercício exaustivo nos parâmetros hemodinâmicos, de dano muscular e de estresse oxidativo foi analisada, e foram comparados os padrões de resposta aos exercícios entre os dois grupos. Os testes máximos consistiram de teste exaustivo em esteira, utilizando protocolo de rampa, e teste com pesos utilizando cargas iniciais de 80% de 1RM, progressivamente reduzidas, até a exaustão, em dois exercícios que abrangeram grupos musculares distintos. Foram realizadas coletas de sangue antes e imediatamente após os exercícios para a determinação de indicadores de hemoconcentração, de lesão muscular, de processo inflamatório e determinação de parâmetros hemogasimétricos. A glicemia se elevou significativamente após os testes somente para o grupo AE. Foram verificados aumentos significativos na acidose devidos a elevação das concentrações de lactato, H+ combinados a redução do HCO3-. Foram observadas variações significativas nas concentrações dos íons sódio e potássio. Também houveram aumentos significativos nas concentrações de CPK e DHL. Além disso, houveram elevações das concentrações plasmáticas e dos leucócitos. Dentro dos parâmetros analisados, as respostas observadas não foram uniformes em comparação aos dois grupos, e houve variação também interna aos grupos, quando comparados os exercícios específicos aos inespecíficos. Os resultados apontam que embora seja esperada uma resposta metabólica característica após o esforço físico exaustivo, a especificidade do treinamento é determinante sobre os processos adaptativos... The leukocyte count interpretation on the blood helps on understanding about the possible dysfunction showed by the animal. In general, an abnormal leukogram allows the identification of pathological process. A lot of events lead to an increase in the number of neutrophils, among then, inflammatory process, infection and stress. Dependent on the stress mediator that the animal is submited, the leukocyte alteration will be different. Is important to know how the stress acts on the animal organism, changing the hematological parameters, in order to avoid mistakes on diseases‟ diagnosis. It‟s known that after a stress situation, it‟s expected that stress leukogram appears on the hemogram of the animal. However there are different kinds of stress with different responses. It‟s believed that when the animal is under an acute stress situation, a clinical picture of physiologic leukocytosis occurs which is mediated by the epinephrine. This is characterized by neutrophilia, lymphocytosis, monocytosis and eosinofilia. The physiologic leukocytosis is a transient alteration in the leukogram that occurs within minutes of the stimulus and due to fleeting effect of catecolamines it resolves within 20 to 30 minutes. However, if the animal is under chronicle stress, as solitude, it „s expected to find the stress leukogram on the leukogram, that can be noted especially in dogs. The stress leukogram is characterized by leukocytosis, neutrophilia, lymphopenia, monocytosis and eosinopenia. This kind of stress is induced by the glucocorticoids. It´s important to understand that stress leukogram takes time to occur. The variation on time depends on the animal species, although, in general, the glucocorticoides have a peak effects among 4 to 8 hours, which can last from 24 hours to 2 or 3 days

O estresse oxidativo é um dos fatores mais importantes na diminuição da qualidade do sêmen, pois leva a perda da integridade da membrana dos espermatozóides e de danos estruturais ao DNA através da cascata de lipoperoxidação. Os danos funcionais relacionados ao estresse oxidativo como a diminuição da motilidade e da viabilidade do espermatozóide são algumas das principais causas de infertilidade masculina. Ainda, os lipídios que compõe a membrana plasmática são macromoléculas que, além de estarem envolvidas em complexos sistemas biológicos e processos metabólicos da célula, são altamente susceptíveis ao processo de lipoperoxidação desencadeado pelo estresse oxidativo. Neste contexto, este projeto propôs o estudo das alterações no perfil lipídico do plasma seminal que pudessem estar relacionadas ao estresse oxidativo e posterior comparação destes perfis em busca de biomarcadores de infertilidade. Para isso, foram coletadas amostras de sêmen de 116 pacientes que procuraram o setor de Reprodução Humana da Universidade Federal de São Paulo. Estas amostras foram submetidas a técnica de TBARS para quantificação dos produtos finais do estresse oxidativo e separação dos grupos, e em seguida, ao protocolo de extração de lipídios para obtenção dos espectros de massa através da técnica de MALDI (Matrix Assisted Laser Disorption Ionization). Com esta análise foi possível a identificação de 31 lipídeos super representados nos diferentes grupos e que, futuramente, poderão vir a ser utilizados na avaliação da qualidade seminal

Physical activity is associated with lower cardiovascular disease risk factors, being cardiorespiratory fitness a major component of physical activity health related. Body fatness and sarcopenia are related to sedentary lifestyle leading to proinflammatory stress and lower cadiorespiratory capacity. This study aimed correlates C-reactive protein with cardiorespiratory fitness, analyzing the influences of anthropometrics variables and metabolic syndrome (MS) presence. the cross-sectional retrospective study included baseline data of 194 adults (62 male and 132 female), 53,74 ± 8,77 years, clinically and ethically selected for a lifestyle modification program. Total cholesterol (TC) and cholesterol lipoprotein fractions, triglycerides (TG) and glucose was dosed by dry chemistry (Vitros® system, Johnson & Johnson). Blood leukocytes was quantified by automatic cell counter (Coulter ABX®, Horiba). LDL-cholesterol was obtained by Friedwald formula. Serum ultrasensitive C-reactive protein (US-CRP) was accessed by the immunochemoluminescence method (Immulite 2000®, DPC Medlab). Weight, height, body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were measured. Muscular mass and fat mass were obtained by bioelectrical impedance analysis (impedancemeter Quantum BIA-101Q®, Clinton Township). Arterial blood pressure was checked by auscultatory method and cardiorespiratory fitness was determined by ergoespirometric test (Balke protocol). The metabolic syndrome was diagnosed according NCEP – ATP III (2001), following recommendations of American Diabetes Association (2004). Pearson’s correlation crude and adjusted for confounders variables with p<0,05. The prevalence of MS was 30.4%. Climate change in tropical countries, like Brazil, causes major problems in dairy production due to an increase of heat stress effects. In recent years, milk production in Brazil increased 36.07%. The Southeast region remains a leader in production with herds of high producing Holstein cattle (mostly), which is more susceptible to heat stress. Thermal stress decreases fertility in direct and indirect ways. Conception rates are reduced of 40-60% during cooler months of the year and 10-20% in the warmer months. Negative effects of heat stress involve changes in reproductive hormones, follicular development, oocytes, and embryos, and decreased dry matter intake. Several studies discuss change in reproductive hormones, such as reduction in plasma concentration of GnRH, LH, and oestradiol, which lead to decreased detection of estrus and ovulation. Various methods are being studied to bypass these negative effects and increase the fertility of dairy cows under heat stress. A patogênese da hepatite C crônica esta relacionada à presença de danos hepáticos, imunológicos e citotóxicos mediados por diferentes produtos virais e resultantes do estresse oxidativo. Assim, pacientes com hepatite C crônica, mesmo sob tratamento medicamentoso, apresentam níveis elevados de marcadores do estresse oxidativo no sangue e tecidos corpóreos. A suplementação com compostos antioxidantes, como zinco, selênio e vitaminas C e E tem sido sugerida como parte do tratamento para reduzir o estresse oxidativo nestes pacientes. O objetivo deste projeto foi avaliar o estado nutricional e o estresse oxidativo de pacientes com hepatite C crônica após a suplementação regular e contínua com suco de laranja, baseado no alto teor de substâncias antioxidantes deste alimento. A avaliação nutricional constou de medidas antropométricas e de ingestão dietética, e o estresse oxidativo foi avaliado por marcadores séricos da lipoperoxidação (níveis de TBARS) e do teor de substâncias antioxidantes (DPPH), antes e após a suplementação com o suco de laranja. Os resultados indicaram que não foram notadas diferenças significativas nos valores de IMC, percentual de gordura corporal e circunferência da cintura antes e após o período de suplementação com suco de laranja, tanto para homens quanto para mulheres. Após o período de suplementação com o alimento, observou-se um aumento significativo de 19% e 27% na ingestão média de energia em homens e mulheres, respectivamente. Entretanto, não foi observado diferença significativa no consumo de macronutrientes antes e após a suplementação. Em relação aos micronutrientes, foi detectado um aumento significativo de vitamina C de 211% para mulheres e 190% para os homens e o folato aumentou significativamente em 53% para as mulheres e 52% para os homens. The meat quality is evaluated by consumers according to their physical characteristics, such as color, texture, juiciness, tenderness and odor. The stress during the life of the animal and at the moment before the slaughter may be responsible for changes in the transformation of muscle into meat. Such changes may lead to the appearance of DFD (Dark, Firm and Dry) and PSE (Pale, Soft and Exudative) meats, which are poorly accepted in the market – because of their unusual aspect – and inadequate to industrial processing. Factors related to the handling, loading, transport, unloading, resting period and stunning are singled out as critical, since that, in these phases the animals are subjected to adverse situations to which they are accustomed. The aim of this study is to identify the process of ante-mortem and the slaughter itself in which the animals are subjected to stressful situations, as well as the consequences of stress on meat quality

Studies on stress in the sport are broad and profound. However, we do not found approach to study the perceptions of trainers on the subject and how it influences the organization of training throughout the season. From this premise, the aim of this work is to verify that the perception of the trainer about stress and its influence on planning. To this end, we chose a qualitative research, through an open interview, carried out with a trainer for a professional soccer team as a pilot for future studies. The interview responses are consistent with the findings of the literature on the changes in the players arising from the interference of stress in the various dimensions. But it was also possible to identify the trainer interviewed pointed out that stress, especially during the competition changes the preliminary planning, therefore, modify the activities to be applied to players depending on the outcome of matches. This pilot study we subsidized the development of new questions that will be inserted in the continuity of the study

The ractopamine is a β-adrenergic agonist used as a divider of energy in diets for finishing pigs. However, research shows that this additive may effect on welfare and meat quality. In this context, the aim was to evaluate the influence in three levels of inclusion of ractopamine (0, 5 and 10ppm) in commercial pigs diet (castrated, males and females, n = 340) for 28 days pre-slaughter on the welfare and meat quality. The wellbeing was assessed by the behavior of animals, number of skin damages, carcass damages and physiological stress (lactate, cortisol and creatinine phosphokinase). The evaluation of meat quality was performed by analyzing pH, color, drip and cooking loss, shear force and marbling of the longissimus dorsi muscle of 90 selected pigs. There was no influence of treatments on the behavior, the total number of skin damages and carcass damages or concentration of cortisol and lactate. However, levels of the enzyme creatine phosphokinase (CPK) increased in pigs supplemented with ractopamine. This shows that, somehow, this additive led to physiological changes in animals that consumed it. PH and drip loss did not change by the addition of ractopamine in the diet. In contrast, the Longissimus dorsi of pigs that received ractopamine presented less intense red color and no difference was found in L* and b*. The inclusion of ractopamine in the diet reduced the degree of marbling, cooking loss and tenderness of the muscle. Supplementation did not lead to behavioral change, increased incidence of injury, plasma cortisol and lactate and minimal impact on meat quality. However, there was evidence that the animals fed the additive suffered physiological changes

Beside aging process comes the incidence of dementia and, among them Alzheimer's disease (AD) accounts for approximately 60% of cases. This disease is characterized as a neuropathology with unknown etiology that causes cognitive deficits and behavioral disorders. Caring for patients with AD can cause an overload, both physical and psychological, which can cause high levels of stress on the primary caregiver. It is necessary that the caregiver also receives attention and develop activities that promote health benefits, while providing moments of distraction from the task of caring. Nonpharmacological interventions may be favorable for improving health with consequent decreased on the levels of stress. The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review of scientific papers that aimed to verify the effect of nonpharmacological interventions on stress levels in caregivers of patients with AD. To contamplate this goal was accomplished a systematic search in the following databases: Biological Abstracts, PsycINFO, PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, LILACS and SciELO. The following keywords and Boolean operators was used: “caregivers” OR “family” and “nonpharmacological interventions” OR “support groups” OR “therapies” AND “Alzheimer's disease” OR “Alzheimer's dementia” OR “Alzheimer” OR “elderly” AND “stress”. There were found 3studies that met inclusion criteria adopted for the present work, and none showed significant results for the variable stress. It is not possible to affirm, according to the studies, that nonpharmacologial interventions programs for caregivers of patients with AD are effective to influence and to control the stress. Agressividade humana e animal acima dos padrões comportamentais esperados têm sido noticiados constantemente pela mídia e revistas especializadas na área de neurociência e neurocomportamento, sendo que várias causas tem sido atribuídas a este desvio, incluindo modificações dos padrões de relações sociais, situações levando a aumento do estresse (ES), substâncias químicas poluentes ambientais, etc. Em toxicologia já se conhece bem o fato de que aumento do estresse pode levar a aumento de comportamentos como ansiedade e agressividade. A Ayahuasca (Ay) é uma beberagem indígena que foi liberada no Brasil e em alguns outros países, para utilização em rituais religiosos. Vários estudos observacionais com humanos têm informado que a Ay poderia diminuir a agressividade, mas não existem dados experimentais concretos sobre esta possibilidade. Neste estudo objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da Ay na agressividade de animais experimentais recebendo estresse por contenção. Para os experimentos três grupos de animais (N=8), respectivamente controle (Ct), recebendo estresse por contenção (ES) e recebendo estresse por contenção mais Ayahuasca (ES+Ay), foram testados para o comportamento de agressividade utilizando o paradigma do animal residente/intruso. Os resultados obtidos demonstram que o grupo ES apresentou alterações dos parâmetros testados para agressividade e que no grupo ES+Ay estes parâmetros estavam normalizados. Conclui-se que a Ayahuasca conseguiu impedir a agressividade aumentada provocada pelo estresse por imobilização.

Evaluation of predictive factors for oxidative stress in healthy people. This study aimed to evaluate the inÀuence of factors such as smoNing, alcohol consumption, use of medicines, contact Zith chemicals, as Zell as age and gender on marNers of oxidative stress, in healthy subMects. :e checNed the effect of age on the antioxidant capacity, Zith decreased values in older individuals, Zhich may be the cause of increased oxidative stress, associated Zith aging. Regarding the other factors, no differences Zere found in the values of the marNer of lipid peroxidation and the antioxidant capacity.
