Background. Activated dendritic cells (DC) initiate immune responses by presenting antigen, including alloantigen from tissue grafts, to T lymphocytes. The potential to deplete or inactivate differentiated-activated DC during allogeneic transplantation represents a new approach to immunosuppression. Methods. The authors investigated the potential of the monoclonal antibody CMRF-44, which has specificity for a DC-associated differentiation-activation antigen, to induce complement-mediated lysis of activated human DC. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), or purified DC preparations, were cultured overnight to activate endogenous DC, resulting in the expression of CNW-44 antigen and CD83. These were then treated with CMRF-44 and complement. Depletion of activated DC was monitored by flow cytometry. Results. Eighty-nine percent of activated (CD83(+)) DC in cultured PBMC were depleted by treatment with CMRF-44 and autologous serum (AS) (complement source; mean percentage of CD83(+)-CD14(-)-CD19(-) cells=0.06%; cf 0.50% for heat-inactivated AS controls, P

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka elevers förståelseav likhetstecknet och sambandet mellan addition och subtraktioni årskurs 3 samt deras klassläraresuppfattning av den egna matematikundervisningen, som behandlar addition, subtraktion och likhetstecknet.Studiens syfte besvaras genom följande frågeställningar: Vad kan specifikt utformade matematikuppgifter ge för information om elevers förståelse av likhetstecknet och sambandet mellan addition och subtraktioni årskurs 3?samtVad tänker en lärare om de resultat som framkommit av elevernas matematikuppgifter? Den empiriska undersökningen har genomförts med en kvantitativ metod, i form av en enkät där elever i årskurs 3 fått lösa speciellt utformade matematikuppgifter och en kvalitativ metod, i form av semi-struktureradintervju med elevernas lärare. Det resultat som framkommit i undersökningen har analyserats med hjälp av en innehållsanalys. Resultatet visar att alla elever intehar kunskapom att likhetstecknet indikerar ekvivalens mellan höger sida och vänster sida om likhetstecknet, men en majoritetav eleverna har den förståelsen. Det var inte väntat från lärarens sida att fyra eleverhelthade missförstått likhetstecknetsbetydelse. Läraren är medveten om att likhetstecknet kan vara svårt attförstå, men hade förväntat att alla elever skulle klara av att lösa minst matematikuppgifterna med delägsta talen.Resultatet visar även att nio av sexton elever har förstått sambandet mellan addition och subtraktion.Läraren menar att det sambandet återkommer under hela lågstadiet och därför hade förväntat sig att fler elever sett sambandet. Men samtidigt anser läraren att det är positivt att lite mer än halva gruppen har förstått sambandet mellan addition och subtraktion. Slutligen visar resultatet av studien att missförståelse av likhetstecknet har inverkan på elevers resultat vid uppgifter med öppna utsagor, men inte vid uppgifter där talen på vänster sida om likhetstecknet är likamed ett tal på höger sida om likhetstecknet.

Green energy and Green technology are the most of the quoted terms in the context of modern science and technology. Technology which is close to nature is the necessity of the modern world which is haunted by global warming and climatic alterations. Proper utilization of solar energy is one of the goals of Green Energy Movement. The present thesis deals with the work carried out in the eld of nanotechnology and its possible use in various applications (employing natural dyes) like solar cells. Unlike arti cial dyes, the natural dyes are available, easy to prepare, low in cost, non-toxic, environmentally friendly and fully biodegradable. Looking to the 21st century, the nano/micro sciences will be a chief contributor to scienti c and technological developments. As nanotechnology progresses and complex nanosystems are fabricated, a growing impetus is being given to the development of multi-functional and size-dependent materials. The control of the morphology, from the nano to the micrometer scales, associated with the incorporation of several functionalities can yield entirely new smart hybrid materials. They are special class of materials which provide a new method for the improvement of the environmental stability of the material with interesting optical properties and opening a land of opportunities for applications in the eld of photonics. Zinc oxide (ZnO) is one such multipurpose material that has been explored for applications in sensing, environmental monitoring, and bio-medical systems and communications technology. Understanding the growth mechanism and tailoring their morphology is essential for the use of ZnO crystals as nano/micro electromechanical systems and also as building blocks of other nanosystems.

In the early 19th century, industrial revolution was fuelled mainly by the development of machine based manufacturing and the increased use of coal. Later on, the focal point shifted to oil, thanks to the mass-production technology, ease of transport/storage and also the (less) environmental issues in comparison with the coal!! By the dawn of 21st century, due to the depletion of oil reserves and pollution resulting from heavy usage of oil the demand for clean energy was on the rising edge. This ever growing demand has propelled research on photovoltaics which has emerged successful and is currently being looked up to as the only solace for meeting our present day energy requirements. The proven PV technology on commercial scale is based on silicon but the recent boom in the demand for photovoltaic modules has in turn created a shortage in supply of silicon. Also the technology is still not accessible to common man. This has onset the research and development work on moderately efficient, eco-friendly and low cost photovoltaic devices (solar cells). Thin film photovoltaic modules have made a breakthrough entry in the PV market on these grounds. Thin films have the potential to revolutionize the present cost structure of solar cells by eliminating the use of the expensive silicon wafers that alone accounts for above 50% of total module manufacturing cost.

El trabajo a continuación tiene como objetivo mostrar cómo la música ha estado ligada al afroamericano desde su llegada al continente Americano en 1800, y cómo ha sido usada para lograr una transformación político-social que permitiría alcanzar la igualdad de trato en Estados Unidos durante la mitad del siglo XX. Se observará la evolución del Blues desde sus raíces y la introducción del R&B como expresión de pensamiento, ideas y experiencias utilizado por The Black Panther Party en la escena social negra de la época. Para lograr el objetivo anteriormente mencionado, se utilizará la Teoría de Campos de Pierre Bourdieu, junto con los conceptos de Capital y Habitus.
