The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the working angle variation of the magnetoestritive ultrasonic (MU) and air polishing devices (APD) on the roughness and wear of dental root. Fifty bovine incisive teeth were used in this study. The proximal surfaces of the teeth were divided in three regions: coronal, median, and an apical. The coronal region was treated with a manual scaler, the apical region was treated with APD or with a MU and the medium region was maintained untreated to serve as a control. The teeth were divided in 11 groups according to the treatment applied: MU-0º; MU-30º; MU-45º; MU-60º; MU-90º; AP-0º; AP-30º; AP-45º; AP-60º; AP-90º; MS: manual scaler. To the statistical analysis, data submitted to the Anova and Tukey's test (p < 0.05). The manual curette promotes less roughness and higher tooth wear in comparison with the both ultrasonic and air polishing devices (p < 0.05). The angles of 45º, 60º and 90º caused higher rate of tooth wear and roughness when the MU was used (p < 0.05), while the angle of 90° caused a higher tooth wear than the angle of 30° when the APD was used (p < 0.05). The working angle variation influenced the tooth wear and roughness promoted by MU, whereas when using APD, the working angle variation influenced only the tooth wear.

Considering the experience taken from the institutional support given by the Humanization’s Brazilian Policy in three health’s regions in São Paulo State, Brazil, this text intends to expose some problems refering to the articulation process of other health’s regional networks mainly composed by cities with less than twenty thousands inhabitants. By problematizing the articulation of inlad health’s networks it is put on the agenda the process of descentraliztion and the interfederaditive relations emphasizing the political and institutional aspects that goes through and modulates these relations, mainly in the small cities. Thus, we are questioning the ways how the current health policies are implemented in these territories and the way how they are articulated, having as a goal the challenge of the process’ ascendance and transversality.

The sol-gel process is a method for obtaining vitreous or vitro-ceramic materials which, are prepared a sol and by drying the liquid phase. This technique has been used extensively for the preparation of glassy gels, films, fibers and particles from the hydrolysis and polycondensation reactions of metal alkoxides. The usual methods for drying are: evaporation drying (xerogels), freeze drying (criogéis) and via supercritical CO2 extraction (aerogels). In the present work, we studied the preparation of silica gels by the sol-gel process from the hydrolysis of alkoxides tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTS). The hydrolysis was promoted from GPTS and TEOS in proportion (4: 1) under acidic conditions. The hydrolysis reaction was promoted inside a Becker at room temperature. After hydrolyses the prepared sol had pH 2, and kept under mechanical agitation for a period of 1 hour. In order to accelerate the polycondensation reaction, the pH was corrected to a value near 5 by slowly adding NH4OH. Then the sols were leaked in sealed polycarbonate containers and maintained for 20 days at 40°C for gelation. Silica aerogels were prepared via supercritical CO2 extraction of the wet gel at temperature and pressure higher than 31°C and 74 atm, in an autoclave specially developed for the process. The structural characteristics were studied in the dry gel (aerogel). Aerogels were then characterized by nitrogen adsorption and small angle light scattering. The nitrogen adsorption data were analyzed for the determination of the BET specific surface (SBET), the total pore volume Vp, the pore mean size (lP=4Vp/SBET), the particle mean size (lS) and the pore size distribution (PSD). And the data from small angle light scattering were analyzed to determine the correlation function (γ'), the area per unit volume (S/V), average pore size (l ) and the average particle size...

Mandibular fractures are the injury most commonly found in the facial bones. They have varied etiology, such as automobile, motorcycle and cycling accidents, physical abuse and falls. The choice of treatment of mandibular fractures most often employed is the reduction and fixation of bone fragments. Regarding fractures involving the mandibular angle, access headgear is the most widely used, in view of the action of masticatory muscles causing greater displacement of fractured stumps. Therefore, the proposal to introduce a conservative approach and facilitated for the treatment of fractures of the mandibular angle, as well as to demystify the contraindication to intraoral approach cases unfavorable fracture displacement, this work is to report a clinical casesurgical mandibular angle fracture, treated by intraoral approach. The fracture was fixed with two plates, one following the external oblique line system (1.5 mm) and a lower system (2.0 mm), with the help of percutaneous trocar. This approach is very promising for these cases, in order to ease the technical as well as by reducing the technical complications of extraoral approach.

A case report of a patient who presents as chief complaint presence of stained restorations in the anterior teeth. After analysis and discussion of the clinical therapeutic approaches to be adopted, it was observed the presence of type class IV restorations on teeth 11 and 21, due to an oblique coronal fracture in the past. But the patient was not satisfied with the aesthetic result, then where was planned the realization of the removal of the restorations, for subsequently be used direct restorative materials for the correction of form, function and esthetics. The final result showed that the restorations were able to return the form, function and aesthetic dental, thereby evidencing the proven development of restorative dentistry in the solution of aesthetic problems.

Purpose: To compare 2 methods used to determine the disk position based on sagittal magnetic resonance images. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study of patients with the signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders was conducted. The patients' ages and gender distributions were collected. The disk position diagnosis from the clinical examination was considered the primary outcome. Three observers evaluated the presence of anterior displacement on magnetic resonance images according to 2 criteria: method 1 (12-o'clock position) and method 2 (location of the intermediate zone). To assess the intraobserver variability of the 2 methods, the examiners evaluated the same magnetic resonance images at the beginning of the study (time 1) and 40 days later (time 2). The intraobserver agreement was assessed using the observed agreement and the kappa statistic. McNemar's test was used to assess the differences between each method and the clinical examination findings (P < .05). The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values were calculated by comparing the diagnosis from each method with that from the clinical examination (considered the reference standard). Results: The final sample was composed of 20 subjects with a mean age of 33.0 +/- 33.7 years; 3 were men (15%) and 17 were women (85%). A statistically significant difference between the 2 methods was found. Method 1 yielded a greater percentage of anterior displaced disks (52.5%). The agreement between the clinical diagnosis and method 1 was lower (70.0%) than that between the clinical diagnosis and method 2 (87.5%). No statistically significant difference was found between the clinical diagnosis and method 2. Conclusion: The disk position should be judged according to the intermediate zone criterion. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate bone changes in the condyle, articular eminence and glenoid fossa in relation to the position of the articular disc. Methods: 148 temporomandibular joints (TMJs) of 74 symptomatic patients who underwent MRI were evaluated. The position of the disc was classified as either normal (N), disc displacement with reduction (DDwR), disc displacement without reduction (DDwoR) and posterior displacement (PD). Bone changes were investigated in the condyle and temporal components of the TMJ and classified as osteophytosis, sclerosis or erosion. Results: There were no bone changes in the glenoid fossa of the temporal bone. Of the total number of TMJs studied, 94 (63.5%) were N, 34 (23%) presented DDwoR, 19 (12.8%) presented DDwR and 1 (0.7%) presented PD. The bone changes in the condyle and posterior aspect of the articular eminence were associated with the position of the disc. The bone changes in the anterior aspect of the articular eminence were not associated with the position of the disc. Conclusion: In cases of DDwoR, bone changes in the condyles were more common. The combination of erosion and osteophytosis in the condyle and the bone changes of the posterior aspect of the articular eminence were associated with disc position.
