The objective of the research is to map and analyze the investment, strategies of develop and prospects of green chemical industry in Brazil and show the fundamental importance of basic research and applied research in the development of this industry in recent years. The complementary objectives are: (i) to evaluate the role of the Brazilian government as a catalyst, encouraging the development of green chemistry industry through incentives, subsidies and ease in credit lines; ii) mapping of relationships between companies universities and public research institutes in the field of green chemistry; iii) verification of the strategies in the world stage green chemistry, the course of time; iv) the theoretical issues and national plans, and your practicable; v) continued investment in the area, with the worry of them being affected by any matter cyclical such as the discovery of a large deposit of shale gas in the United States and a technological development of oil extraction in Brazil and vi) the pace of R&D for basic and applied in the country with the passage of time

Sustainability is the ability of human beings interact with the world, preserving the environment to not compromise the natural resources of future generations. This is the main goal of Green Chemistry, which is based on twelve basic principles. One of its branches, the Green Analytical Chemistry, apply these principles in their techniques, such as Green Chromatography. The aim of this study was to do a brief literature review on some chromatographic techniques (Gas Chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, High Temperature Liquid Chromatography, Ultra Pressure Liquid Chromatograph, Micro Liquid Chromatography and Super Critical Chromatography) and measure their impact on the environment

Purpose of this monograph is a critical review of articles and publications worldwide. The insertion of green chemistry concepts in the curriculum components of general chemistry lab, plays a fundamental role in the early years of a Chemistry course towards early embed the philosophy of green chemistry. The fundamental concepts of green chemistry are highlighted in order to present the huge number of challenges in developing new chemistry l in research, industry and education. The practice of a chemical that takes into account ethical environmental attitudes thought since the formation of professionals, may lead to adoption of technical microscale, replacement of toxic agents, reduction of waste generation, etc. who snore a lot with the concept of sustainability

Darunavir, a protease inhibitor used in the treatment of HIV infection, presents few methods for its determination in pharmaceuticals. Infrared (IR) spectroscopy offers the possibility of obtaining spectra relatively quickly, providing interesting information, analytically, qualitatively or quantitatively. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) performs separations of high efficiency in shorter time with reagents and samples in small quantity. These two methods are cost-benefitted when we evaluate the green level and the cost of analysis. Faster and cheaper methods without generating organic waste by IR and CE for the quantification of darunavir were developed and validated, focusing socioeconomic impact of analytical decisions. If the cost of acquisition, maintenance, production, analysis and conditioning of drugs and pharmaceuticals is high, consequently the price of this product in the market will be higher and it cannot be accessible to the patient. Treatment failure not only affects the quality of life of patients, but also contributes significantly to the economic burden of the health system. In this context there is a tool called Analysis of the Life Cycle, which comes to make us think in a multidimensional way focusing the whole, the parts and especially the interaction among the parts of a system.

Low liquid-solid ratio (LSR) can be used to obtain high-content xylo-oligosaccharide (XOS) spend liquor by hot water pretreatment. Developing a technology based on low LSR results in more efficient water usage in the system and thus in lower capital and operating costs. Xylans from xylan rich agro-industrial waste are abundant hemicellulosic polymers with enormous potential for industrial applications. Currently, freeze-dried xylo-oligosaccharides are used as bio-based polymers and hydrolysates containing high xylose contents are converted to several chemical products. In this study, sugarcane bagasse was treated with water at low LSRs and mild temperatures in order to assess the effects of varying the pretreatment conditions on the xylo-oligosaccharide and xylose concentrations, and use a central composite experimental design to optimize the process parameters. The pretreatments were performed in the ranges temperature: 143.3-176.7 degrees C, time: 20-70 min and LSR: 1 : 1 to 11 : 1 (g g(-1)). The maximum concentrations of xylose and xylan were 13.76 and 36.18 g L-1 (equivalent to 48.29 g L-1 of xylan), respectively, which were achieved by treating bagasse at 170 degrees C for 60 min, with LSR of 3 g g(-1). The amount of xylan removed under these conditions was almost 57%. The soluble xylan consisted mainly of xylo-oligosaccharides (74 wt% of the identified compound in the spent liquor).

The Biginelli reaction is a multicomponent reaction involving the condensation between an aldehyde, a beta-ketoester, and urea or thiourea, in the presence of an acid catalyst, producing dihydropyrimidinones (DHPMs). Owing to their important pharmacological properties, the DHPMs have been studied by many authors. However, most of the methodologies used for the synthesis of these compounds require drastic reaction conditions. In the current study, we report an efficient and clean procedure for preparing DHPMs by the use of citric acid or tartaric acid as a promoter of the Biginelli synthesis in ethanol as solvent. In addition, we have evaluated the antioxidant capacity of the compounds synthesized by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging assay and the thiobarbituric acid-reactive species test. Two compounds presented antioxidant activity and also reduced lipid peroxidation at concentrations of 200 and 300 mu M. In summary, we report an environmentally friendly procedure for the preparation of DHPMs and demonstrate the antioxidant capacity of some of the compounds. (C) 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, a LED (light emitting diode) based photometer for solid phase photometry is described. The photometer was designed to permit direct coupling of a light source (LED) and a photodiode to a flow cell with an optical pathlength of 4 mm. The flow cell was filled with adsorbing solid phase material (C-18), which was used to immobilize the chromogenic reagent 1-(2-thiazolylazo)-2-naphthol (TAN). Aiming to allow accuracy assessment, samples were also analyzed employing ICP OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry) methodology. Applying the paired t-test at the 95% confidence level, no significant difference was observed. Other useful features were also achieved: linear response ranging from 0.05 to 0.85 mg L-1 Zn, limit of detection of 9 mu g L-1 Zn (3 sigma criterion), standard deviation of 1.4% (n = 10), sampling throughput of 36 determinations per h, and a waste generation and reagent consumption of 1.7 mL and of 0.03 mu g per determination, respectively.

Supercritical carbon dioxide is a promising green-chemistry solvent for many enzyme-catalyzed chemical reactions, yet the striking stability of some enzymes in such unconventional environments is not well understood. Here, we investigate the stabilization of the Candida antarctica Lipase B (CALB) in supercritical carbon dioxide-water biphasic systems using molecular dynamics simulations. The preservation of the enzyme structure and optimal activity depend on the presence of small amounts of water in the supercritical dispersing medium. When the protein is at least partially hydrated, water molecules bind to specific sites on the enzyme surface and prevent carbon dioxide from penetrating its catalytic core. Strikingly, water and supercritical carbon dioxide cover the protein surface quite heterogeneously. In the first solvation layer, the hydrophilic residues at the surface of the protein are able to pin down patches of water, whereas carbon dioxide solvates preferentially hydrophobic surface residues. In the outer solvation shells, water molecules tend to cluster predominantly on top of the larger water patches of the first solvation layer instead of spreading evenly around the remainder of the protein surface. For CALB, this exposes the substrate-binding region of the enzyme to carbon dioxide, possibly facilitating diffusion of nonpolar substrates into the catalytic funnel. Therefore, by means of microheterogeneous solvation, enhanced accessibility of hydrophobic substrates to the active site can be achieved, while preserving the functional structure of the enzyme. Our results provide a molecular picture on the nature of the stability of proteins in nonaqueous media.

Neste trabalho é proposto um fotômetro baseado em LED (diodo emissor de luz) para fotometria em fase sólida. O fotômetro foi desenvolvido para permitir o acoplamento da fonte de radiação (LED) e do fotodetector direto na cela de fluxo, tendo um caminho óptico de 4 mm. A cela de fluxo foi preenchida com material sólido (C18), o qual foi utilizado para imobilizar o reagente cromogênico 1-(2-tiazolilazo)-2-naftol (TAN). A exatidão foi avaliada empregando dados obtidos através da técnica ICP OES (espectrometria de emissão por plasma indutivamente acoplado). Aplicando-se o teste-t pareado não foi observada diferença significativa em nível de confiança de 95%. Outros parâmetros importantes encontrados foram faixa de resposta linear de 0,05 a 0,85 mg L-1 Zn, limite de detecção de 9 µg L-1 Zn (n = 3), desvio padrão de 1,4 % (n = 10), frequência de amostragem de 36 determinações por h, e uma geração de efluente e consumo de reagente de 1,7 mL e 0,03 µg por determinação, respectivamente.

Obiettivo del mio lavoro di tesi è stato quello di verificare la fattibilità di un nuovo processo per la produzione di acido adipico da cicloesene con due stadi di reazione. Il primo stadio di reazione prevede l’ossidazione del cicloesene con soluzione acquosa di acqua ossigenata a formare l’epossido, che idrata a 1,2-cicloesandiolo, mentre nel secondo stadio il glicole viene ossidato con ossigeno ad acido adipico. Il lavoro è stato focalizzato sullo studio del meccanismo di reazione per l’ossidazione del 1,2-cicloesandiolo ad acido adipico, utilizzando catalizzatori a base di Ru(OH)3/Al2O3, Ru(OH)3-Bi(OH)3/Al2O3, Cu/C e Cu/TiO2. Le prove condotte hanno dimostrato che i catalizzatori usati sono attivi nell’ossidazione di 1,2-cicloesandiolo, ma sono caratterizzati da scarsa selettività ad acido adipico. Dall’analisi dei risultati ottenuti si desume che la reazione richiede condizioni fortemente basiche per potere avvenire. In queste condizioni però si vengono a formare degli intermedi che reagiscono rapidamente con l’acqua e con l’ossigeno, dando luogo alla formazione di una serie di prodotti primari e secondari.
