It has been demonstrated in earlier studies that patients with a cochlear implant have increased abilities for audio-visual integration because the crude information transmitted by the cochlear implant requires the persistent use of the complementary speech information from the visual channel. The brain network for these abilities needs to be clarified. We used an independent components analysis (ICA) of the activation (H2 (15) O) positron emission tomography data to explore occipito-temporal brain activity in post-lingually deaf patients with unilaterally implanted cochlear implants at several months post-implantation (T1), shortly after implantation (T0) and in normal hearing controls. In between-group analysis, patients at T1 had greater blood flow in the left middle temporal cortex as compared with T0 and normal hearing controls. In within-group analysis, patients at T0 had a task-related ICA component in the visual cortex, and patients at T1 had one task-related ICA component in the left middle temporal cortex and the other in the visual cortex. The time courses of temporal and visual activities during the positron emission tomography examination at T1 were highly correlated, meaning that synchronized integrative activity occurred. The greater involvement of the visual cortex and its close coupling with the temporal cortex at T1 confirm the importance of audio-visual integration in more experienced cochlear implant subjects at the cortical level.
El Cinema cru : influència del fenomen audiovisual global-popular en el cinema del canvi de mil·leni

El Cru són les formes d'expressió de procedència no professional que combinen so i imatge en moviment i que, a partir de principis de la dècada dels 90 del sègle XX i pel context històric de l'època, estan a l'abast d'una part significativa i creixent de la població mundial, amb una també creixent potencialitat de difusió massiva a escala planetària, el que dota al conjunt d'una visibilitat en augment en la societat i el torna, en conseqüència, un referent ineludible. Erigit el Cru com un referent cada vegada més important en la nostre societat, trobem lògic pensar que el cinema realitzat per a la seva projecció a sales d'exhibició, hagi pogut veure-s'hi influenciat. Abstract :This article examines the interplay of text and image in The Fairy Tales of Charles Perrault (1977), translated by Angela Carter and illustrated by Martin Ware, as a form of intersemiotic dialogue that sheds new light on Carter's work. It argues that Ware's highly original artwork based on the translation not only calls into question the association of fairy tales with children's literature (which still characterizes Carter's translation), but also captures an essential if heretofore neglected aspect of Carter's creative process, namely the dynamics between translating, illustrating and rewriting classic tales. Several elements from Ware's illustrations are indeed taken up and elaborated on in The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories (1979), the collection of "stories about fairy stories" that made Carter famous. These include visual details and strategies that she transposed to the realm of writing, giving rise to reflections on the relation between visuality and textuality.RésuméCet article considère l'interaction du texte et de l'image dans les contes de Perrault traduits par Angela Carter et illustrés par Martin Ware (The Fairy Tales of Charles Perrault, 1977) comme une forme de dialogue intersémiotique particulièrement productif. Il démontre que les illustrations originales de Ware ne mettent pas seulement en question l'assimilation des contes à la littérature de jeunesse (qui est encore la perspective adoptée par la traductrice dans ce livre), mais permettent aussi de saisir un aspect essentiel bien que jusque là ignoré du procession de création dans l'oeuvre de Carter, à savoir la dynamique qui lie la traduction, l'illustration et la réécriture des contes classiques. Plusieurs éléments des illustrations de Ware sont ainsi repris et élaborés dans The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories (1979), la collection de "stories about fairy stories" qui rendit Carter célèbre. La transposition de détails et de stratégies visuelles dans l'écriture donnent ainsi l'occasion de réflexions sur les rapports entre la visualité et la textualité.

This paper presents a webservice architecture for Statistical Machine Translation aimed at non-technical users. A workfloweditor allows a user to combine different webservices using a graphical user interface. In the current state of this project,the webservices have been implemented for a range of sentential and sub-sententialaligners. The advantage of a common interface and a common data format allows the user to build workflows exchanging different aligners.
La producció d'animació audiovisual a Catalunya: diagnòstic de la situació empresarial de l’animació

El cine se enfrenta, hoy, a múltiples retos en su propia configuración, acompañando un frenético desarrollo tecnológico. Se ha convertido en matriz de la multiplicación audiovisual contemporánea. En este contexto es preciso redefinir al espectador como sujeto que encarna hoy nuevas funciones y ocupa espacios variados en el conjunto de la producción cultural.Se apuesta por una redefinición del espectador cinematográfico en relación a la evolución del audiovisual digital -sus implicaciones tecnológicas y narrativas- y la relación de ambos con las instituciones de la producción cultural contemporánea -sus políticas de acceso y estrategias de adaptación-.Esta aproximación se fundamenta en el reconocimiento de la capacidad productiva de este nuevo agente cultural y las correspondencias que esta evolución implica respecto al panorama audiovisual contemporáneo.

El present projecte d’investigació és el treball de recerca del Doctorat en Comunicació Pública (bienni 2007-2009) i es proposa de desenvolupar-lo com a tesi doctoral. Vol estudiar les especificitats de la narrativa audiovisual informativa a Internet de tres mitjans digitals decomunicació catalans. Per a fer-ho es proposa una metodologia qualitativa dividida en dos blocs: el primer, a partir de l'observació, entrevistes en profunditat i enquestes, vol investigar les novesrutines de producció audiovisual en aquests tres mitjans, condicionades per un nou entorn digital; el segon, a partir de la narratologia, vol analitzar els efectes d'aquestes rutines i d'aquest nou entorn enel producte audiovisual resultant

Partiendo de la capacidad expresiva y reflexiva que albergan las imágenes tecnológicas para manifestar la red de implicaciones que se configuran en un sistema de representación como el que se desarrolla durante una exhibición de Capoeira, el propósito que me planteo en este trabajo consiste en abrazar el gran desafío del saber contemporáneo de educar(se) ‘en’ y ‘para’ la era planetaria, es decir, desatar un impulso de pensamiento complejo que esté animado por una tensión permanente entre la aspiración a un saber no parcelado, no dividido, no reduccionista, y el reconocimiento de lo inacabado e incompleto de todo conocimiento La aventura especulativa que se desencadena en esta investigación parte de una posición propia declarada: el análisis histórico, estético y antropológico de los fundamentos culturales que se despliegan durante una roda de Capoeira nos sirve para detectar categorías conceptuales que permiten esbozar la delimitación de un territorio metafórico donde se ilustra el carácter epistémico adscrito a la visualidad de alguno de los dispositivos y formas audiovisuales que configuran los entornos digitales comunicativos que habitamos en la actualidad

This methodological study aimed to describe the process of translation and cultural adaptation of the Perceived stigmatization Questionnaire (PSQ) and analyze the internal consistency of the items in the step of pre-testing. The PSQ was developed to evaluate the perception of stigmatizing behaviors of burn victims. The adaptation process was carried out from August 2012 to February 2013, comprising the steps outlined in the literature. As part of this process, the pre-test with 30 adult burn victims was held. All participants at this step reported to understand the instrument items and the scale of responses. There were no suggestions or changes in the tested version. The value of Cronbach’s alpha at pre-test was 0.87. The contribution of this study is to describe the operation of each of the steps of this methodological process and show the internal consistency of the items in the pre-test.

Objective To analyze innovative contents on Early Child Development Promotion. Method This action-research involves nine faculties from four Higher Education Institutions at inner-state of São Paulo, Brazil.Data were collected by syllabi analyses (2009-2011), interviews and focus group. We have adopted an ECDP underpinning from international consensus, thus evaluating KT Results We have found relevant incorporation between teaching and extension in Nursing (87,5%) and Psychology (75%) undergraduate courses, while Pedagogy was restricted to teaching. Conclusion This KT evaluation has evinced innovative potential of extension, regardless teaching and research, for a better Early Childhood.

This article presents the legislative and judicial practice relating to the "autonomous implementation" of EU law in Switzerland. Given that "euro-compatibility" is the central consideration behind this legislative policy, one would expect Swiss authorities to have devised legislative and hermeneutical techniques guaranteeing high fidelity to EU "mother law". That is not the case, however, and as this article shows much is lost in the translation from EU to Swiss Law
