Biology of Grapsus grapsus (LINNAEUS, 1758) (Brachyura, Grapsidae) in the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Archipelago, Equatorial Atlantic Ocean

Eleven expeditions were undertaken to the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Archipelago to study the reproductive biology of Grapsus grapsus, providing additional information on limb mutilation and carapace colour. MATURE software was used to estimate morphological maturity, while gonadal analyses were conducted to estimate physiological maturity. The puberty moult took place at larger size in males (51.4 mm of carapace length) than in females (33.8 mm), while physiological maturity occurred at a similar size in males (38.4 mm) and in females (33.4 mm). Above 50 mm, the proportion of red males increased in the population, indicating that functional maturity is also related to colour pattern. Small habitat and high local population density contributed to the high rate of cannibalism. The low diversity of food items, absence of predators of large crabs and high geographic isolation are the determinants of unique behavioural and biological characteristics observed in the G. grapsus population.

O Fantástico na Prosa Contemporânea o duplo como jogo ficcional em Rubens Figueiredo

Observamos a questão do duplo na ficção de Rubens Figueiredo e como ele contribui a produção do fantástico na contemporaneidade. Para isso, primeiro, apresentamos a análise de Tzevan Todorov sobre o gênero fantástico, no qual destacamos a multiplicação da personalidade e a ambiguidade na narrativa; e segundo, tratamos, de forma breve, as concepções do duplo na história da literatura, no ensaio filosófico de Clément Rosset e a partir do unheimlich de Freud. Adicionalmente utilizamos teóricos como Filipe Furtado, Jean-Paul Sarte, Otto Rank, Remo Ceserani, entre outros. Por fim, analisamos como o duplo aparece no fantástico atual, a partir das narrativas curtas Nos olhos do intruso, Um certo tom de preto, Sem os outros, A ele chamarei Morzek e do romance Barco a seco, de Rubens Figueiredo. O autor em sua construção ficcional parece mesclar elementos do fantástico clássico com o fantástico moderno e, em suas narrativas é possível notar a presença obsessiva do tema do duplo, o insólito, a ambiguidade, e questões da atualidade que dizem respeito à condição humana

Peace and Peacemaking in Paul Against the Backdrop of Greco-Roman Conceptions of Peace

Peace in the ancient world has been studied primarily from the perspective of pacifism and questions related to war and peace. This study employs a socio-historical method to determine how peace was understood in itself, not just with respect to war. It demonstrates that the Greco-Roman world viewed peace as brief periods of tranquility in an existence where conflict was the norm, while Paul regarded peace as the norm and conflict as an intrusive aberration. Through a historical and literary survey of Greco-Roman thought and culture, this study shows that myth, legend, religion, education, philosophy, and science created and perpetuated the idea that conflict was necessary for existence. Wars were fought to attain peace, which meant periods of calm, quiet, and security with respect to the gods, one's inner self, nature, others who are insiders, and others who are outsiders. Despite the desirability of peace, genuine peace was seldom experienced, and even then, only briefly, as underlying enmity persisted without resolution. While Paul supports the prevailing conception of peace as tranquility and felicity in relation to God, self, nature, and others, he differs as to the origin, attainment, and maintenance of peace. In Paul, peace originates in God and is graciously given to those who are justified and reconciled to God through Jesus Christ. God removes the enmity caused by sin and provides the indwelling Spirit to empower believers to think and behave in ways that promote and maintain peace. This study also examines how three social dynamics (honor-shame, patron-client, friendship-enmity) affect Paul's approach to conflict resolution with Philemon and Onesimus, Euodia and Syntyche, believers who are prosecuting one another in civil courts, and Peter. Rather than giving specific procedures for resolving conflict, Paul reinforces the believer's new identity in Christ and the implications of God's grace, love, and peace upon their thoughts, words, and behavior toward one another. Paul uses these three social dynamics to encourage believers in the right direction, but their ultimate accountability is to God. The study concludes with four strategic principles for educating the church and developing an atmosphere and attitude within the church for peacemaking.
