The parameterized fast decoupled power flow (PFDPF), versions XB and BX, using either theta or V as a parameter have been proposed by the authors in Part I of this paper. The use of reactive power injection of a selected PVbus (Q(PV)) as the continuation parameter for the computation of the maximum loading point (MLP) was also investigated. In this paper, the proposed versions obtained only with small modifications of the conventional one are used for the computation of the MLP of IEEE test systems (14, 30, 57 and 118 buses). These new versions are compared to each other with the purpose of pointing out their features, as well as the influence of reactive power and transformer tap limits. The results obtained with the new approaches are presented and discussed. The results show that the characteristics of the conventional FDPF method are enhanced and the region of convergence around the singular solution is enlarged. In addition, it is shown that these versions can be switched during the tracing process in order to efficiently determine all the PV curve points with few iterations. A trivial secant predictor, the modified zero-order polynomial, which uses the current solution and a fixed increment in the parameter (V, theta, or mu) as an estimate for the next solution, is used for the predictor step. The charged oscillator, defined by the Hamiltonian H = -d2/dr2+ r2 + lambda/r in the domain [0, infinity], is a particular case of the family of spiked oscillators, which does not behave as a supersingular Hamiltonian. This problem is analysed around the three regions lambda --> infinity, lambda --> 0 and lambda --> -infinity by using Rayleigh-Ritz large-order perturbative expansions. A path is found to connect the large lambda regions with the small lambda region by means of the renormalization of the series expansions in lambda. Finally, the Riccati-Pade method is used to construct an implicit expansion around lambda --> 0 which extends to very large values of Absolute value of lambda.

By considering the long-wavelength limit of the regularized long wave (RLW) equation, we study its multiple-time higher-order evolution equations. As a first result, the equations of the Korteweg-de Vries hierarchy are shown to play a crucial role in providing a secularity-free perturbation theory in the specific case of a solitary-wave solution. Then, as a consequence, we show that the related perturbative series can be summed and gives exactly the solitary-wave solution of the RLW equation. Finally, some comments and considerations are made on the N-soliton solution, as well as on the limitations of applicability of the multiple-scale method in obtaining uniform perturbative series.

We suggest a method for constructing trial eigenfunctions for excited states to be used in the variational method. This method is a generalization of the one that uses a superpotential to obtain the trial functions for the ground state. The construction of an effective hierarchy of Hamiltonians is used to determine excited variational energies. The first four eigenvalues for a quartic double-well potential are calculated for several values of the potential parameter. The results are in very good agreement with the eigenvalues obtained by numerical integration.

This paper presents a new approach to the resolution of the Optimal Power Flow problem. In this approach the inequality constraints are treated by the Modified Barrier and Primal-Dual Logarithmic Barrier methods. The inequality constraints are transformed into equalities by introducing positive auxiliary variables, which are perturbed by the barrier parameter. A Lagrangian function is associated with the modified problem. The first-order necessary conditions are applied to the Lagrangian, generating a nonlinear system which is solved by Newton's method. The perturbation of the auxiliary variables results in an expansion of the feasible set of the original problem, allowing the limits of the inequality constraints to be reached. Numerical tests on the Brazilian CESP and South-Southeast systems and a comparative test indicated that the new approach efficiently resolves of the Optimal Power Flow problem. © 2007 IEEE.

This work describes the influence of the preparation method and the carbon support using a low contentof cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2/C 4%) on H2O2electrogeneration via the oxygen reduction reac-tion (ORR). For this purpose, the polymeric precursor (PPM) and sol-gel (SGM) methods with Vulcan XC72R (V) and Printex L6 (P) supports were employed. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffrac-tion (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). TheXRD analysis identified two phases comprising CeO2and CeO 2-x. The smallest mean crystallite size wasexhibited for the 4% CeO2/C PPM P material, which was estimated using the Debye-Scherrer equation tobe 6 nm and 4 nm for the CeO2and the CeO 2-xphases, respectively, and was determined by TEM to be5.9 nm. XPS analysis was utilized to compare the oxygen content of the 4% CeO2/C PPM P to Printex L6.The electrochemical analysis was accomplished using a rotating ring-disk electrode. The results showedthat the 4% CeO2/C specimen, prepared by PPM and supported on Printex L6, was the best electrocatalystfor H2O2production in 1 mol L -1NaOH. This material showed the highest ring current, producing 88%H2O2and transferring 2.2 electrons per O 2molecule via the ORR at the lowest onset potential. Addition-ally, the ring-current of the 4% CeO2/C PPM P material was higher than that of Vulcan XC 72R and PrintexL6, the reference materials for H2O 2production, indicating the highest electrocatalytic activity for the 4%CeO2/C PPM P material. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Lianas can change forest dynamics, slowing down forest regeneration after a perturbation. In these cases, it may be necessary to manage these woody climbers. Our aim was to simulate two management strategies: (1) focusing on abundant liana species and (2) focusing on the largest lianas, and contrast them with the random removal of lianas. We applied mathematical simulations for liana removal in three different vegetation types in southeastern Brazil: a Rainforest, a Seasonal Tropical Forest, and a Woodland Savanna. Using these samples, we performed simulations based on two liana removal procedures and compared them with random removal. We also used regression analysis with quasi-Poisson distribution to test whether larger lianas were aggressive, i.e., if they climbed into many trees. The procedure of cutting larger lianas was as effective as cutting them randomly and proved not to be a good method for liana management. Moreover, most of the lianas climbed into one or two trees, i.e., were not aggressive. Cutting the most abundant lianas proved to be a more effective method than cutting lianas randomly. This method could maintain liana richness and presumably should accelerate forest regeneration.

The influence of test method factors (notch shape, square or angular, and pre-cracking method, by tapping onto or pressing a razor blade) on the results obtained in plane strain fracture toughness test according to standard ASTM D5045 using SENB specimens made of a commercial PMMA resin were investigated. Results were analyzed quantitatively by comparing the obtained K-IC values and qualitatively by observing their effect on the Moire fringes observed using photoelasticity, showing that, at 95% significance level, the K-IC values are affected by the pre-cracking method, with the most conservative value being obtained when natural pre-cracks were introduced by tapping onto a razor blade (K-IC = 1.15 +/- 0.11 MPa.m(0.5)). This correlates with a perturbation in the stress field close to the pre-crack tip observed in the photoelasticity test sample when it was introduced by pressing the razor blade. Surprisingly, notch geometry only slightly affects the results. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This thesis is concerned with calculations in manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory beyond order D=4. We investigate two different methods. The first approach consists of the inclusion of additional particles besides pions and nucleons as explicit degrees of freedom. This results in the resummation of an infinite number of higher-order terms which contribute to higher-order low-energy constants in the standard formulation. In this thesis the nucleon axial, induced pseudoscalar, and pion-nucleon form factors are investigated. They are first calculated in the standard approach up to order D=4. Next, the inclusion of the axial-vector meson a_1(1260) is considered. We find three diagrams with an axial-vector meson which are relevant to the form factors. Due to the applied renormalization scheme, however, the contributions of the two loop diagrams vanish and only a tree diagram contributes explicitly. The appearing coupling constant is fitted to experimental data of the axial form factor. The inclusion of the axial-vector meson results in an improved description of the axial form factor for higher values of momentum transfer. The contributions to the induced pseudoscalar form factor, however, are negligible for the considered momentum transfer, and the axial-vector meson does not contribute to the pion-nucleon form factor. The second method consists in the explicit calculation of higher-order diagrams. This thesis describes the applied renormalization scheme and shows that all symmetries and the power counting are preserved. As an application we determine the nucleon mass up to order D=6 which includes the evaluation of two-loop diagrams. This is the first complete calculation in manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory at the two-loop level. The numerical contributions of the terms of order D=5 and D=6 are estimated, and we investigate their pion-mass dependence. Furthermore, the higher-order terms of the nucleon sigma term are determined with the help of the Feynman-Hellmann theorem.

This thesis is concerned with the calculation of virtual Compton scattering (VCS) in manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory to fourth order in the momentum and quark-mass expansion. In the one-photon-exchange approximation, the VCS process is experimentally accessible in photon electro-production and has been measured at the MAMI facility in Mainz, at MIT-Bates, and at Jefferson Lab. Through VCS one gains new information on the nucleon structure beyond its static properties, such as charge, magnetic moments, or form factors. The nucleon response to an incident electromagnetic field is parameterized in terms of 2 spin-independent (scalar) and 4 spin-dependent (vector) generalized polarizabilities (GP). In analogy to classical electrodynamics the two scalar GPs represent the induced electric and magnetic dipole polarizability of a medium. For the vector GPs, a classical interpretation is less straightforward. They are derived from a multipole expansion of the VCS amplitude. This thesis describes the first calculation of all GPs within the framework of manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. Because of the comparatively large number of diagrams - 100 one-loop diagrams need to be calculated - several computer programs were developed dealing with different aspects of Feynman diagram calculations. One can distinguish between two areas of development, the first concerning the algebraic manipulations of large expressions, and the second dealing with numerical instabilities in the calculation of one-loop integrals. In this thesis we describe our approach using Mathematica and FORM for algebraic tasks, and C for the numerical evaluations. We use our results for real Compton scattering to fix the two unknown low-energy constants emerging at fourth order. Furthermore, we present the results for the differential cross sections and the generalized polarizabilities of VCS off the proton.
