As aplicações móveis de serviços baseados na localização, denominados LBS (Location-based services), disponibilizam serviços ao utilizador baseadas na sua localização geográfica. Este tipo de serviços começou a surgir ainda na década de 90 e, à medida que o número de dispositivos móveis cresceu de forma exponencial, a sua oferta disparou consideravelmente. Existem várias áreas com aplicabilidade prática, mas o foco desta tese é a pesquisa e localização de pontos de interesse (POI’s). Através dos sensores que os dispositivos móveis atualmente disponibilizam, torna-se possÃvel localizar a posição do utilizador e apresentar-lhe os pontos de interesse que estão situados em seu redor. No entanto essa informação isolada revela-se por vezes insuficiente, uma vez que esses pontos de interesse são à partida desconhecidos para o utilizador. Através do serviço coolplaces, um projeto que pretende dedicar-se à pesquisa e partilha de POI’s, podemos criar a nossa rede de amigos e de locais, beneficiando assim da respetiva informação de contexto de um determinado POI. As inovações tecnológicas permitiram também o aparecimento de aplicações de Realidade Aumentada nos dispositivos móveis, isto é, aplicações capazes de sobrepor imagens virtuais a visualizações do mundo real. Considerando a visualização de POI’s num dado ambiente, se encararmos a Realidade Aumentada como um potenciador da interação do utilizador com o mundo real, rapidamente identificamos as potencialidades da junção destes conceitos numa só aplicação. Sendo assim, o trabalho desenvolvido nesta tese pretende constituir um estudo sobre a implementação e desenvolvimento de um módulo de Realidade Aumentada para a aplicação móvel do serviço coolplaces, fazendo uso da tecnologia disponÃvel no mercado de forma a proporcionar uma experiência inovadora e acrescentar valor à referida aplicação.

Nesta Dissertação ir-se-á avaliar o desempenho de algumas ligações existentes nos veÃculos pesados de passageiros, através do Regulamento Eurocódigo 3. Nos últimos anos ocorreram diversos acidentes envolvendo este tipos de veÃculos, em que os mesmos causaram vÃtimas mortais e feridos graves. Serão testadas por simulação numérica algumas ligações pertencentes a elementos constituintes da superestrutura, em que esta é normalmente afectada com a ocorrência de acidentes. Assim sendo, o estudo de nós de ligação tem uma importância fulcral para que uma superestrutura suporte situações extremas e que resista a solicitações externas aplicadas. Iniciou-se esta Dissertação com o estudo da sinistralidade e de acidentes que envolvem veÃculos pesados de passageiros. No capÃtulo 2 abordou-se um programa que promove simulações numéricas de acidentes e estudo do comportamento dos passageiros em caso de acidente, sendo referido o Regulamento que homologa os veÃculos pesados de passageiros e os seus principais métodos. Abordaram-se os principais constituintes da estrutura de um veÃculo pesado de passageiros. No capÃtulo 3, é referido o Eurocódigo 3 em termos do estudo das ligações tubulares usadas neste tipo de veÃculos. No capÃtulo 4, fez-se o estudo e selecção de elementos a utilizar para a simulação numérica de casos preconizados pelo Eurocódigo 3 e estudaram-se três tipos de ligações que são usadas na construção da superestrutura deste tipo de veÃculos, tendo-se retirado conclusões deste estudo.

The goal of this project, one of the proposals of the EPS@ISEP 2014 Spring, was to develop an Aquaponics System. Over recent years Aquaponics systems have received increased attention due to its possibilities in helping reduce strain on resources within 1st and 3rd world countries. Aquaponics is the combination of Hydroponics and Aquaculture and mimics a natural environment in order to successfully apply and enhance the understanding of natural cycles within an indoor process. By using this knowledge of natural cycles it was possible to create a system with the capabilities similar to that of a natural environment with the benefits of electronic adaptions to enhance the overall efficiency of the system. The multinational team involved in its development was composed of five students, from five countries and fields of study. This paper covers their solution, involving overall design, the technology involved and the benefits it could bring to the current market. The team was able to achieve the final rendered Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings, successfully performed all the electronic testing, and designed a solution under budget. Furthermore, the solution presented was deeply studied from the sustainability viewpoint and the team also developed a product specific marketing plan. Finally, the students involved in this project obtained new knowledge and skills.

This paper proposes the development of biologically inspired robots as the capstone project of the European Project Semester (EPS) framework. EPS is a one semester student centred international programme offered by a group of European engineering schools (EPS Providers) as part of their student exchange programme portfolio. EPS is organized around a central module (the EPS project) and a set of complementary supportive modules. Project proposals refer to open multidisciplinary real world problems. Its purpose is to expose students to problems of a greater dimension and complexity than those faced throughout the degree programme as well as to put them in contact with the socalled real world, in opposition to the academic world. Students are organized in teams, grouping individuals from diverse academic backgrounds and nationalities, and each team is fully responsible for conducting its project. EPS provides an integrated framework for undertaking capstone projects, which is focused on multicultural and multidisciplinary teamwork, communication, problem-solving, creativity, leadership, entrepreneurship, ethical reasoning and global contextual analysis. The design and development of biologically inspired robots allows the students to fulfil the previously described requirements and objectives and, as a result, we recommend the adoption of these projects within the EPS project capstone module for the benefit of engineering students.

This paper presents the development of a fish-like robot called Bro-Fish. Bro-Fish aims to be an educational toy dedicated to teaching mechanics, programming and the physics of floating objects to youngsters. The underlying intention is to awaken the interest of children for technology, especially biomimetic (biologically inspired) approaches, in order to promote sustainability and raise the level of ecological awareness. The main focus of this project was to create a robot with carangiform locomotion and controllable swimming, providing the opportunity to customize parts and experiment with the physics of floating objects. Therefore, the locomotion principles of fishes and mechanisms developed in related projects were analysed. Inspired by this background knowledge, a prototype was designed and implemented. The main achievement is the new tail mechanism that propels the robot. The tail resembles the undulation motion of fish bodies and is actuated in an innovative way, triggered by an elegant movement of a rotating helicoidal. First experimental tests revealed the potential of the proposed methodology to effectively generate forward propulsion.

RESUMO - Introdução: As quedas dos doentes são um dos principais eventos adversos que podem ocorrer em contexto hospitalar, levando por um lado, ao aumento de encargos económicos e sociais, e por outro a consequências fÃsicas e psicológicas nos doentes e respectiva famÃlia. Para a sua prevenção, é necessário investir na segurança do doente através de uma avaliação e consequente gestão do risco de quedas. Este trabalho insere-se na estratégia de melhorar a segurança do doente e a qualidade dos cuidados prestados. Objectivos: Avaliar em que medida o formulário existente responde à s actuais necessidades de gestão do risco de quedas e suas consequências. Por outro lado, com base numa extensa revisão da literatura nacional e internacional, e tendo em conta as dinâmicas de qualidade e segurança do doente que têm sido criadas no hospital em estudo, propor um formulário mais eficaz que permita responder aos desafios que se colocam nos dias de hoje. Metodologia: Tratou-se de um estudo descritivo exploratório assente no paradigma quantitativo. A população do estudo foi constituÃda por 98 doentes que sofreram quedas durante o internamento no ano de 2010, num hospital E.P.E. (Entidade Pública Empresarial) Conclusão: As quedas ocorreram mais frequentemente em indivÃduos do sexo masculino com doenças cérebro-vasculares e infecciosas, sendo que na maioria das vezes não resultaram em consequências graves. O formulário que aqui se recomenda tem a vantagem de ser informatizado e caracterizar aspectos relacionados com os custos. ---------------- ABSTRACT - Introduction: Falls of patients are one of the main adverse events that may occur in a hospital context, leading on the one hand, to an increase of economic and social burden, and, on the other hand, physical and psychological consequences for patients and their families. For its prevention, we need to invest in patient safety through an assessment and consequent management of the fall risk. This work is inserted in the strategy to improve the Patient safety and the quality of health care. Objectives: To assess the extent to which the form responds to current needs of managing the fall risk and their consequences. On the other hand, on the basis of an extensive review of national and international literature, and taking into account the dynamics of quality and safety of the patient that are created at the hospital in study, to propose a form more efficient in order to respond to the challenges that we face nowadays. Methodology: It was an exploratory descriptive study based on the quantitative paradigm. The population study was constituted by 98 patients who had suffered falls during hospitalization in the year 2010, in a hospital E.P.E. Conclusion: Falling occurred more frequently in male individuals with cerebral-vascular and infectious diseases, and in most of the time, falls have not resulted in serious consequences. The form recommended here has the advantage of being computerized and characterize aspects related with costs.

A realização deste artigo visa apresentar a Unidade de Cirurgia de Ambulatório 2 (UCA), a funcionar no Hospital Santo António dos Capuchos (HSAC) desde 16 de Junho de 2009. É nosso intuito contextualizar a necessidade de criação desta Unidade, com uma breve resenha histórica da Cirurgia de Ambulatório (CA), evidenciando as principais vantagens deste regime cirúrgico. Pretendemos dar a conhecer a organização e funcionamento da UCA, o circuito dos utentes, realçando o papel do Enfermeiro em todo este processo.

Venous ulcers in patients with post thrombotic syndromes are complex situations with multiple therapeutic options. They are responsible for high morbidity rates, conservative treatment is very slow and recurrences are very common. Deep venous reconstructive surgery is an alternative, but it should be based on the morphologic and functional aspects of the venous system and only adopted after a very careful study, including venography. The authors describe a morphological "pattern", found in some of these patients and related to the competence of the saphenous femoral junction, rendering possible to perform a valvular transposition. Seven patients with post thrombotic ulcers who have been treated during the last 6 years in which the pattern already described was detect, underwent a transposition of the superficial femoral vein, to the great saphenous vein and when necessary complemented with skyn grafts. Before the operation all patients had ulcers with more than 3 cm in size (3.2-5.4 cm) and with more than 4 months duration (4-16 months). All ulcers healed in the postoperative period (mean time 28 days). All patients have been reevaluated in 2003 and it was diagnosed the thrombosis of two procedures, one of them with the recurrence of the ulcer who healed with conservative treatment. The authors consider this method as a very easy technique to perform, although rarely used, and a valid alternative in a highly selected group of patients.

Fractional Calculus (FC) goes back to the beginning of the theory of differential calculus. Nevertheless, the application of FC just emerged in the last two decades. In the field of dynamical systems theory some work has been carried out but the proposed models and algorithms are still in a preliminary stage of establishment. Having these ideas in mind, the paper discusses a FC perspective in the study of the dynamics and control of mechanical systems.
