Projection-based atom selection in orthogonal matching pursuit for compressive sensing

For compressive sensing, we endeavor to improve the atom selection strategy of the existing orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm. To achieve a better estimate of the underlying support set progressively through iterations, we use a least squares solution based atom selection method. From a set of promising atoms, the choice of an atom is performed through a new method that uses orthogonal projection along-with a standard matched filter. Through experimental evaluations, the effect of projection based atom selection strategy is shown to provide a significant improvement for the support set recovery performance, in turn, the compressive sensing recovery.

Accurate Indoor Positioning of Firefighters using Dual Foot-mounted Inertial Sensors and Inter-agent Ranging

A real-time cooperative localization system, utilizing dual foot-mounted low-cost inertial sensors and RF-based inter-agent ranging, has been developed. Scenario-based tests have been performed, using fully-equipped firefighters mimicking a search operation in a partly smoke-filled environment, to evaluate the performance of the TOR (Tactical lOcatoR) system. The performed tests included realistic firefighter movements and inter-agent distances, factors that are crucial in order to provide realistic evaluations of the expected performance in real-world operations. The tests indicate that the TOR system may be able to provide a position accuracy of approximately two to three meters during realistic firefighter operations, with only two smoke diving firefighters and one supervising firefighter within range.

Fusing the Navigation Information of Dual Foot-Mounted Zero-Velocity-Update-Aided Inertial Navigation Systems

A range constraint method viz. centroid method is proposed to fuse the navigation information of dual (right and left) foot-mounted Zero-velocity-UPdaTe (ZUPT)-aided Inertial Navigation Systems (INSs). Here, the range constraint means that the distance of separation between the position estimates of right and left foot ZUPT-aided INSs cannot be greater than a quantity known as foot-to-foot maximum separation. We present the experimental results which illustrate the applicability of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method significantly enhances the accuracy of the navigation solution when compared to using two uncoupled foot-mounted ZUPT-aided INSs. Also, we compare the performance of the proposed method with the existing data fusion methods.

Der globale Handel mit Fischen und Fischereierzeugnissen funktioniert nur dann reibungslos, wenn sich die Handelspartner über die Qualität und Sicherheit der Produkte einig sind. Um diesen Handel zu erleichtern, tagen Experten aus aller Welt regelmäßig im CodexAlimentarius-Komitee für Fisch und Fischereierzeugnisse (CCFFP). Sie erarbeiten unter besonderer Beachtung des Gesundheitsschutzes der Verbraucher sowie der Sicherung fairer Praktiken im Handel internationale Lebensmittelstandards, Richtlinien und Vorschriften wie Codes of Practice. Die Mitarbeit in diesem Komitee ist auch aus dem Grunde besonders wichtig, da es eine Plattform dafür bietet, Ergebnisse aus eigener experimenteller forschender Tätigkeit direkt in hochrangige internationale Rechtsnormen umzusetzen, die unmittelbar dem Verbraucher und der betroffenen Lebensmittelindustrie zugute kommen, wie es beispielsweise bei der Grätendefinition, der Bestimmung des Fischkerngewichtes, der Bestimmung der Lebensfähigkeit von Nematoden, dem Heringsstandard, dem Standard für Fischstäbchen usw. der Fall war.

Nachwuchsprobleme bei Nordseegarnelen?

Die Nordseegarnele (Crangon crangon), im Handel auch einfach "Krabbe" genannt, ist eines der wichtigsten Fangobjekte unserer Fischerei. Da die Garnelen einer weitgehend örtlich gebundenen, nationalen Fischerei unterliegen, stehen sie nicht im Mittelpunkt des Interesses der EG-Fischereipolitik. Sie unterliegen keinerlei Quotenregelung und sind damit auch nicht Gegenstand politischer Verhandlungen.

Differenzierung von Pangasius (Pangasius hypophthalmus) und Asiatischem Rotflossenwels (Hemibagrus wyckioides) durch Protein- und DNA-Analyse

In the last years farmed Pangasius (Tra-Pangasius, Pangasius hypophthalmus) from Vietnam has reached a considerable market share, whereas aquaculture of Asian Redtail Catfish (Hemibagrus wyckioides) is in its infancy. Recently it has been detected by food control authorities in Hamburg, that Pangasius fillets have been mislabelled and sold as fillets produced from Asian Redtail catfish. The necessity to improve the analytical methods for differentiation of Pangasius and Redtail Catfish prompted us to evaluate the suitability of isoelectric focusing (IEF) and DNA-analysis for identification of the two species. IEF of water soluble proteins was found to be a fast, reliable and economical method for differentiation of raw fillets of Pangasius and Redtail Catfish, as long as reference material is available. PCR-based DNA analysis was performed as follows: (i) amplification of a 464 bp segment of the cytochrome b gene; (ii) sequencing of the PCR product; (iii) comparison of the sequence with entries in GenBank using BLAST. The sequences of both species differed considerably, allowing the unequivocal differentiation between P. hypophthalmus and H. wyckioides. Kurzfassung Pangasius (Schlankwels, Tra-Pangasius, Pangasius hypophthalmus) hat sich innerhalb weniger Jahre zu einem bedeutenden Zuchtfisch entwickelt, während die Aquakultur des Asiatischen Rotflossenwelses (Hemibagrus wyckioides) in Vietnam noch in einem relativ kleinen Maßstab stattfindet. Kürzlich wurde von der Lebensmittelüberwachung in Hamburg nachgewiesen, dass im Handel erhältliche Filets mit der Deklaration „Rotflossenwels“ aus Pangasius hergestellt worden waren. Vor diesem Hintergrund wurden zwei Methoden auf ihre Eignung zur Differenzierung von Pangasius und Rotflossenwels geprüft. Es zeigte sich, dass sowohl die isoelektrische Fokussierung (IEF) wasserlöslicher Proteine als auch die PCR-basierte DNA-Analyse zur Unterscheidung beider Arten gut geeignet ist. Die IEF stellt eine schnelle und kostengünstige Untersuchungsmethode dar, die allerdings Referenzmaterial benötigt. Mit Hilfe der PCR (Polymerase-Kettenreaktion) wurde ein Abschnitt des Cytochrom b-Gens vervielfältigt und sequenziert. Die Sequenzen von P. hypophthalmus und H. wyckioides wiesen beträchtliche Unterschiede auf. Es wird diskutiert, wie sich durch Vergleich dieser Sequenzen mit Einträgen in Gendatenbanken unbekannte Proben beider Arten sicher zuordnen lassen.

31. Sitzung des FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Komitees für Fische und Fischereierzeugnisse in Tromsø, Norwegen

Die Sitzung zeigte in diesem Jahr einmal mehr sehr deutlich, dass einzelne Länder bei bestimmten Fisch und Fischerzeugnissen konkrete wirtschaftliche Interessen verfolgen und versuchen, diese in die Gestaltung bzw. die Formulierung der Codex-Standards, sofern es möglich ist, einfließen zu lassen. Insbesondere zu Beginn der Ausarbeitung eines neuen Standardentwurfs steht die Frage nach dem globalen Handel im Vordergrund. Als Hauptkriterien für einen neuen Standard gelten die aktuelle, internationale wirtschaftliche Bedeutung des Fisches oder Fischerzeugnisses, bestehende wissenschaftliche Kenntnisse über dieses Erzeugnis und die Notwendigkeit einer Qualitäts-und Risikoeinstufung.

Wassergehalte tiefgefrorener Kammmuscheln

Kurzfassung Der Handel mit tiefgefrorenen Kammmuscheln (Pectinidae) hat in den letzten Jahren deutlich zugenommen und ist von der Jakobsmuschel (Pecten maximus) auf eine Reihe weiterer Spezies erweitert worden. Neben nicht zutreffender Handelsbezeichnung fällt diese Erzeugnisgruppe immer wieder durch einen erhöhten Wasserzusatz negativ auf. Es wurde die Zusammensetzung des Muskelfleisches von Produkten aus dem deutschen Handel bestimmt und das Wasser zu Protein- Verhältnis (W/P) berechnet. Eine erhebliche Zahl von Proben hatte hohe Wassergehalte und ein W/P Verhältnis > 5. Dies betraf insbesondere die Tiefseescallop (Placopecten magellanicus) und die Japanische Kammmuschel (Mizuhopecten yessoensis). In den meisten Fällen wurden Zusatzstoffe nachgewiesen, obwohl die gesetzlich vorgeschriebene Deklaration fehlte. Abstract The market share of quick-frozen scallops (Pectinidae) has increased significantly in recent years and has been extended besides the king scallop (Pecten maximus) to a variety of other species. Apart from an incorrect labeling this product group stands out for often excessively high water addition. The composition of the muscle meat and the water to protein ratio (W/P) was determined in samples from the German retail. The results showed that a considerable number of samples had very high moisture contents and W/P ratios > 5. These facts were mainly true for Placopecten magellanicus and Mizuhopecten yessoensis. There was no conformity with the prescribed declaration of food additives.

Cholesterolgehalte in Fischereierzeugnissen vom Deutschen Markt

Kurzfassung Zahlreiche Fischereierzeugnisse aus dem Deutschen Handel wurden auf ihren Gehalt an Cholesterol hin analysiert. Zur Analyse gelangten 38 verschiedene Dauerkonserven von acht Fischarten, 4 Produkte kalt geräucherter Atlantischer Zuchtlachs in Scheiben, 10 Garnelenarten und 25 Fischstäbchenerzeugnisse von 5 Tierarten in Verbraucherpackungen. Bei den Dauerkonserven lagen die Gehalte zwischen 24 und 40 mg/100 g. Zwei Ausnahmen bildeten Sprottenkonserven mit durchschnittlich 107 mg/100 g und Oktopuskonserven mit 196 mg/100 g. Die Garnelenarten variierten zwischen 84 und 161 mg/100g. Die kalt geräucherten Lachsscheiben wiesen nur eine kleine Bandbreite im Cholesterolgehalt zwischen 38 und 43 mg/100 g auf. Alle Fischstäbchen aus Magerfischen enthielten niedrige Gehalte an Cholesterol (Pangasius hypophthalmus 25, Seehecht 19, Seelachs 31 und Alaska Seehecht 28 mg/100 g), während die zwei Proben aus Tintenfischen über 100 mg/100 g lagen. Abstract Numerous fishery products from the German market have been analysed for their content of cholesterol. In total 38 different canned fishery products produced from 8 species, 4 products of sliced cold smoked Atlantic salmon, 10 species of crustacean shellfish and 25 different brands of consumer packages of fish fingers (produced from 5 species) were investigated. Canned fishery products contained amounts of cholesterol ranging from 24 to 40 mg/100 g. However, canned sprats exhibit cholesterol content as high as 107 mg/100g and canned octopus 196 mg/100 g. Crustacean shellfish was found to contain cholesterol content between 84 and 161 mg/100 g depending of species. Sliced cold smoked salmon in 200 g consumer packages showed only a little variation in cholesterol content (38-43 mg/100 g). In all fish fingers produced from lean fish species low cholesterol content (pangasius or sutchi catfish 25, hake 19, saithe 31, and Alaska Pollack 28 mg/100 g, respectively) was found, whereas two products produced from squid exceeded 100 mg/100 g.

芍药属两物种染色体结构变异杂合性研究

芍药属由大约35个灌木和多年生草本种组成，分为三个组：牡丹组(Sect. Moutan)、北美芍药组(Sect. Onaepia)和芍药组(Sect. Paeonia)。四川牡丹(Paeonia decomposita Handel-Mazzetti)和块根芍药(P. intermedia Meyer)分别隶属于牡丹组和芍药组。在该属的所有种中，染色体基数均为 x = 5，最短的五号染色体是端部着丝粒染色体，很容易辨认。 本论文研究了块根芍药三个居群22个个体和四川牡丹两个居群13个个体的减数分裂。减数分裂异常广泛发生，以至于发现所有被研究的个体都有数量不等的桥、断片和单价体。结果表明在中期I，块根芍药第一个居群平均每个小孢子母细胞有2.17个棒状二价体和2.7个环形二价体，第二个居群平均每个细胞有2.04个棒状二价体和2.86个环形二价体，第三个居群平均每个细胞有2.21个棒状二价体和2.71个环形二价体。而在四川牡丹中，第一个居群平均每个小孢子母细胞有2.09个棒状二价体和2.81个环形二价体，第二个居群平均每个细胞有1.85个棒状二价体和3.08个环形二价体。 块根芍药第一个居群的平均减数分裂染色体构型是2n = 10 = 0.25 I + 4.87 II，第二个居群是2n = 10 = 0.20 I + 4.90 II，第三个居群是2n = 10 = 0.17 I + 4.92 II，在该种的平均构型是2n = 10 = 0.21 I + 4.89 II。四川牡丹第一个居群的平均减数分裂染色体构型是2n = 10 = 0.21 I + 4.90 II，第二个居群是2n = 10 = 0.14 I + 4.93 II，在该种的平均构型是2n = 10 = 0.20 I + 4.90 II。在块根芍药中，不同个体的配对系数变化范围在69.5%和81.07%之间，在四川牡丹中在72.97%和81.37%之间。 在后期I和末期I，出现了染色体桥、断片、落后染色体、不等分离等异常现象。最明显的减数分裂异常是后期I桥/断片。尽管在不同的居群中桥/断片异常出现的频率有所变化(块根芍药居群一是26.03%，居群二是11.67%，居群三是13.39%;四川牡丹居群一是7.59%，居群二是9%)，但是这种异常出现在所有个体中(块根芍药平均为18.67%，四川牡丹平均为7.69%)。结果表明，所有的个体都是染色体臂内倒位结构杂合体，广泛存在于野生自然居群中，可能存在某些选择优势。而且，桥的出现频率和断片的大小在个体之间是变化的，这因此表明在这两个种中存在不同的倒位。然而，这两个种在野生居群中是如何维持染色体结构杂合的，其维持机制还有待于进一步阐明，还需要更进一步的证据。 该研究还揭示了块根芍药和四川牡丹这两个种具有共同的第五号染色体减数分裂异常：与长臂相比，短臂在遗传距离和物理距离之间存在巨大的背离。短臂的遗传距离，通过交叉频率计算出来，约是长臂的三十分之一（块根芍药）。然而，物理距离用臂的比率表示，大约是长臂的三分之一，物理距离是遗传距离的十倍。 在四川牡丹红心桥居群和其它居群之间，臂比存在微小的差异，而且在芍药属不同的种内也发现了存在差异。在四川牡丹中，环形二价体(两个臂形成交叉)和棒状二价体(仅一个臂形成交叉)的比率是1.94 : 98.06，而在块根芍药中是3.42 : 96.58。在这两个种中，棒状二价体大大多于环形二价体。在第五号染色体的短臂上可能存在某些“搭车效应”，这表明第五号染色体的短臂上存在高度永久杂合，导致短臂高度保守、极为稳定。这与芍药属古老的分布格局、进化历史长可能存在某些联系。四川牡丹第五号染色体的后期I倒位桥出现频率非常低，仅为0.51 - 3.47%，平均为1.43%。而且断片长度是变化的，其变化范围在1.7 - 10.8 µm之间。

云南及川西中心纲硅藻的研究

<正> 1914—1916年H.Handel-Mazzetti曾在云南的滇南、滇中、滇西北及四川的川西南广大地区采集了许多植物标本。其中藻类标本有92号,经H.Skuja于1937年进行分类研究后,首次发表了该地区的藻类,但中心纲硅藻仅有8种、4变种,隶属于4属、1科,1目。

TRANSCENDING FACH: A SEARCH FOR IDENTITY INSIDE AND OUT OF MEZZO-SOPRANO REPERTOIRE

The German Fach system is a tool to classify voices in classical singing. This dissertation comprises three different programs that reflect my search for identity as a mezzo-soprano and my desire to transcend the limitations of Fach. The three programs, all presented at The Clarice Performing Arts Center, contain repertoire written for male and female voices thus allowing me to explore areas outside of the mezzo-soprano Fach, gain a better understanding of the Fach system and guide me as I strive to become a more mature performer. In my first program, I sang the role of Sesto, a role that was composed originally for a castrate, in the opera La Clemenza di Tito by W.A. Mozart. The Maryland Opera Studio production took place April 30, May 2,4&6,2003. Performing this gender-bending role provided an experience of physical behavior from the male view point along with the demands of coloratura singing. Program two (November 30,2004) contained the song cycle Dichterliebe by Robert Schumann and songs by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert and Felix Mendelssohn, which are usually sung by male voices. This program experimented with extended range, tessitura and a gender-bending performance in the art song arena. 8 In program three (April 21 &23,2005), I sang the contralto role of Cornelia from Giulio Cesare in Egitto by George Frederic Handel. The role of Cornelia is psychologically complex, expressing emotions such as love, melancholy, rage, malice, joy and fear. To convey these emotions a voice needs warmth and darkness of quality. Although the range is close to that of the mezzo-soprano, Handel wrote Cornelia for contralto voice because he wanted a dark timbre and this role allowed me to develop my lower register and manage suitable ornamentations. The programs are documented in a digital format available on compact disc and are accompanied by the oral presentation at the defense of this dissertation.

SELECTED VARIATIONS BY COMPOSERS IN GERMANY AND FRANCE

The Haward of Dictionary of Music (1983), defines variation as "a technique modifying a given musical idea." From the Baroque period on, the form and the techniques of variation were developed and enriched in Germany and France. Therefore, I presented the works of composers from these two nations. Even though there was a vast number of possibilities, I wanted to be scholastically fair and interesting in making my selections by choosing well-known pieces along with lesser-known ones. Haydn's well-known Variations in F minor consist of two sets of double variations which break into an improvisation fantasy. The first movement of Beethoven Sonata in A flat major, Op. 26, is a set of five variations on the composer's original theme. The variations are positioned in the first movement instead of Sonata-Allegro form. In 1861 Brahrns composed the Variations and Fugue, Op. 24, on the theme of Handel. Brahms displays a wealth of rhythmic, harmonic and textural contrasts in the variations. Chopin's E Major Variations without opus number are written on a Swiss influenced German folksong. Faure's Theme and Variations in C sharp minor, Op. 73, includes eleven variations. The work displays the composer's subtlety, grace and reticence. 12 Variationen iiber ein eigenes Thema were written by Alban Berg as a composition study with Schonberg. The Finale of Dutilleux's Piano Sonata, titled "Chorale with Variations", is written in an impressionistic style. A rich expressiveness is well blended in a classical form. In 1742, the remarkable Aria and thirty variations known as the Goldberg Variations were composed by J. S. Bach. The thirty Variations are unified by the bass line, which forms the foundation of the Aria. The pieces discussed above were presented in three recitals. Compact disc recordings of these recitals are available in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland.
