This book will serve as a foundation for a variety of useful applications of graph theory to computer vision, pattern recognition, and related areas. It covers a representative set of novel graph-theoretic methods for complex computer vision and pattern recognition tasks. The first part of the book presents the application of graph theory to low-level processing of digital images such as a new method for partitioning a given image into a hierarchy of homogeneous areas using graph pyramids, or a study of the relationship between graph theory and digital topology. Part II presents graph-theoretic learning algorithms for high-level computer vision and pattern recognition applications, including a survey of graph based methodologies for pattern recognition and computer vision, a presentation of a series of computationally efficient algorithms for testing graph isomorphism and related graph matching tasks in pattern recognition and a new graph distance measure to be used for solving graph matching problems. Finally, Part III provides detailed descriptions of several applications of graph-based methods to real-world pattern recognition tasks. It includes a critical review of the main graph-based and structural methods for fingerprint classification, a new method to visualize time series of graphs, and potential applications in computer network monitoring and abnormal event detection.

We present a program (Ragu; Randomization Graphical User interface) for statistical analyses of multichannel event-related EEG and MEG experiments. Based on measures of scalp field differences including all sensors, and using powerful, assumption-free randomization statistics, the program yields robust, physiologically meaningful conclusions based on the entire, untransformed, and unbiased set of measurements. Ragu accommodates up to two within-subject factors and one between-subject factor with multiple levels each. Significance is computed as function of time and can be controlled for type II errors with overall analyses. Results are displayed in an intuitive visual interface that allows further exploration of the findings. A sample analysis of an ERP experiment illustrates the different possibilities offered by Ragu. The aim of Ragu is to maximize statistical power while minimizing the need for a-priori choices of models and parameters (like inverse models or sensors of interest) that interact with and bias statistics.

Abstract In a non-strenuous exercise, the heart rate (HR) shows a linear relationship with the maximum volume of oxygen consumption (V O2max) and serves as an indicator of performance of the cardiovascular system. The heart rate replaces the %V O2max in exercise program prescription to improve aerobic endurance. In order to achieve an optimal effect during endurance training, the athlete needs to work out at a heart rate high enough to trigger the aerobic metabolism, while avoiding the high heart rates that bring along significant risks of myocardial infarction. The minimal and optimal base training programs, followed by stretching exercises to prevent injuries, are adequate programs to maximize benefits and minimize health risks for the cardiovascular system during single session training. In this thesis, we have defined an ambient intelligence system functional model that monitors, evaluates and trains physical qualities, and it has been validated for aerobic endurance. It is based on the Android System and the “GOW Running” smart shirt. The system has been evaluated during functional assessment stress testing of aerobic endurance in the Stress Physiology Laboratory (SPL) of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). Furthermore, a voice system, designed to guide the user through minimal and optimal base training programs, has been evaluated. Also the software development has been evaluated. By means of user experience questionnaires, we have rated the attractiveness of the android application. Moreover, we have defined a methodology and a new kind of questionnaires in order to assess the user experience with the audio exercise guide system. The results obtained confirm the model. We have a high similarity between HR measurements made of our system and the one used by SPL. We have also a high correlation between the VO2max estimations of our system and the SPL system. All users, that tried the voice guidance system for minimal and optimal base training programs, were able to perform the 95% of the training session with an error lower than the 10% of theoretical maximum heart rate. The application appeared attractive to the users, and it has also been proven that the voice guidance system was useful. As result we obtained a positive evaluation of the users' satisfaction while they interacted with the system. In conclusion, it has been demonstrated that is possible to develop mobile Ambient Intelligence applications for the improvement of healthy lifestyle. AmIRTEM model is the first theoretical reference functional model for the design of this kind of applications. Further studies will be realized in order to extend the AmIRTEM model to other physical qualities whose physiological models are more complex than the aerobic endurance.

Systems biology techniques are a topic of recent interest within the neurological field. Computational intelligence (CI) addresses this holistic perspective by means of consensus or ensemble techniques ultimately capable of uncovering new and relevant findings. In this paper, we propose the application of a CI approach based on ensemble Bayesian network classifiers and multivariate feature subset selection to induce probabilistic dependences that could match or unveil biological relationships. The research focuses on the analysis of high-throughput Alzheimer's disease (AD) transcript profiling. The analysis is conducted from two perspectives. First, we compare the expression profiles of hippocampus subregion entorhinal cortex (EC) samples of AD patients and controls. Second, we use the ensemble approach to study four types of samples: EC and dentate gyrus (DG) samples from both patients and controls. Results disclose transcript interaction networks with remarkable structures and genes not directly related to AD by previous studies. The ensemble is able to identify a variety of transcripts that play key roles in other neurological pathologies. Classical statistical assessment by means of non-parametric tests confirms the relevance of the majority of the transcripts. The ensemble approach pinpoints key metabolic mechanisms that could lead to new findings in the pathogenesis and development of AD

he simulation of complex LoC (Lab-on-a-Chip) devices is a process that requires solving computationally expensive partial differential equations. An interesting alternative uses artificial neural networks for creating computationally feasible models based on MOR techniques. This paper proposes an approach that uses artificial neural networks for designing LoC components considering the artificial neural network topology as an isomorphism of the LoC device topology. The parameters of the trained neural networks are based on equations for modeling microfluidic circuits, analogous to electronic circuits. The neural networks have been trained to behave like AND, OR, Inverter gates. The parameters of the trained neural networks represent the features of LoC devices that behave as the aforementioned gates. This would mean that LoC devices universally compute.

Abstract: Many years ago, one of the telecommunications services most demanded in Spain has been pay television, complementing and extending the offer of audiovisual content which are usually offered for free by analog tv and recently by digital terrestrial televisión or TDT. These video services, have been traditionally offered by satellite operators, cable operators or other telecommunications operators that through a data connection (ADSL,VDSL or fiber optic), offered its content over IP. The evolution and improvement of the technology used for broadcasting over IP, has allowed that to date, television is conceived as a service Over The Top (OTT), not dependent on the transmission medium, allowing any agent to distribute audiovisual content in a very simple way and to all its customers in all parts of the world; being only necessary to have an decent internet connection. In this way, the project will have relation with S3Group’s StormTest tool, bought by CENTUM Solutions (company specialized in engineering services for communications, control and signal intelligence system) with the aim of satisfying the needs of its customers and which ultimately has counted for the realization of this project. The main objective of this project is the definition and implementation of a test bench that allows to optimize the processes of technical validation, improving execution times and concentrating the activities of engineers on higher value tasks. For the realization of this project, it has been defined several objectives necessary for the development of this type of activity. The most important tones are listed below: Analysis of the current situation: where in technical acceptance processes it is dedicated many hours of work for the completion of repetitive testing and without value which can be automated by tools available on the market Search and selection of a tool that meets the needs of testing. Installation on the laboratories. Configuration and customization of the tool to specific projects. With all this, this project will cover the following achievements: Reduce the execution time of the testing campaigns, thanks to the automation of many of them. Measurements of subjective and objective quality tests, impossible to run with engineers (due to subjective perception). Improve and automate reporting of results systems

Providing QoS in the context of Ad Hoc networks includes a very wide field of application from the perspective of every level of the architecture in the network. In order for simulation studies to be useful, it is very important that the simulation results match as closely as possible with the test bed results. In this Paper, we study the throughput performance (parameter QoS) in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) and compares emulated test bed results with simulation results from NS2 (Network Simulator). The performance of the Mobile Ad Hoc Networks is very sensitive to the number of users and the offered load. When the number of users/offered load is high then the collisions increase resulting in larger wastage of the medium and lowering overall throughput. The aim of this research is to compare the throughput of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks using three different scenarios: 97, 100 and 120 users (nodes) using simulator NS2. By analyzing the graphs in MANETs, it is concluded When the number of users o nodes is increased beyond the certain limit, throughput decreases.
