Electron microscopy of polymer-carbon nanotubes composites

Characterization of polymer nanocomposites by electron microscopy has been attempted since last decade. Main drives for this effort were analysis of dispersion and alignment of fillers in the matrix. Sample preparation, imaging modes and irradiation conditions became particularly challenging due to the small dimension of the fillers and also to the mechanical and conductive differences between filler and matrix. To date, no standardized dispersion and alignment process or characterization procedures exist in the trade. Review of current state of the art on characterization of polymer nanocomposites suggests that the most innovative electron and ion beam microscopy has not yet been deployed in this material system. Additionally, recently discovered functionalities of these composites, such as electro and photoactuation are amenable to the investigation of the atomistic phenomena by in situ transmission electron microscopy. Light Reflectance Characteristics and Remote Sensing of Waterlettuce

Waterlettuce ( Pistia stratiotes L.) is a free-floating exotic aquatic weed that often invades and clogs waterways in the southeastern United States. A study was conducted to evaluate the potential of using remote sensing technology to distinguish infestations of waterlettuce in Texas waterways. Field reflectance measurements showed that waterlettuce had higher visible green reflectance than associated plant species. Waterlettuce could be detected in both aerial color- infrared (CIR) photography and videography where it had light pink to pinkish-white image tonal responses. Computer analysis of CIR photographic and videographic images had overall accuracy assessments of 86% and 84%, respectively. (PDF contains 6 pages.)

波流共同作用下旋转振荡圆柱绕流的数值模拟

本文研究了雷诺数Re=1568,KC数,波流强度比γ=1,线速度比α=2,强迫振荡频率fs=0．1～1．0时波流共同作用下旋转振荡圆柱的绕流问题。通过基于非结构化同位网格的有限体积法对Navier—Stokes方程进行了数值求解。对流项、扩散项和非恒定项的离散格式均具有二阶精度,利用SIMPLE算法处理压力-速度耦合。通过计算发现,较小的振荡频率会显著改变流场结构。而升力的振荡频率既不是振荡流频率,也不是自然脱落频率。

Die EU-Förderung der Fisch verarbeitenden Industrie und das EU-Datenerhebungsprogramm

A considerable amount of national EU funds for supporting fisheries has been transferred to the German fish processing in-dustry. The recently ratified European Fisheries Fund (EFF) again provides a significant sum. Yet the EU is lacking a data pool of sufficient precision, which is required as a basis to develop apt EU regulations in the future. Regulation No. 1639/2001 of the EU Commission commits the member states to collect these data. In this paper specifics of the data to be collected and the collection procedure are presented and linked to the CFP and to characteristics of the German fish processing industry.

Information zum nationalen Fischereidatensammlungsprogramm

The EU-Commission has started an initiative to improve the quantity and quality of fishery data. This will improve the quality of fish stock assessments and is expected to implicitly enhance the quality of stock management. By the relevant regulations 1543/2000 and 1639/2001 member states are obliged to establish national programmes for the sampling of data necessary to evaluate the situation of fishery resources and the fishery sector. In this article the German national data sampling programme is described.

Numerical investigation on a transition prediction model

A new transition prediction model is introduced, which couples the intermittency effect into the turbulence transport equations and takes the characteristics of fluid transition into consideration to mimic the exact process of transition. Test cases include a two-dimensional incompressible plate and a two-dimensional NACA0012 airfoil. Performance of this transition model for incompressible flows is studied, with numerical results consistent to experimental data. The requirement of grid resolution for this transition model is also studied.

Characteristics of recording and thermal fixing in lithium niobate

We present a theoretical model in which the band-transport equations and the coupled-wave equations are considered to study the two thermal-fixing methods (simultaneous fixing and postfixing) in Fe:LiNbO3. We found that, in simultaneous fixing, the existing ionic-grating affects the writing of the electronic grating by reduction of the coupling gain, and the grating envelope of the fixed-index grating is quite uniform inside the photorefractive crystal in comparison with the method of postfixing. The resulting diffraction efficiency of the fixed-volume grating is dependent mainly on the initial intensity modulation of the two writing beams. A set of experiments is also presented. O culto no universo fandom: dinâmicas afetivas e sociais em comunidades de fãs no ciberespaço

O objetivo da presente dissertação é conhecer e compreender como se dá a manifestação do culto dos fãs a um produto de entretenimento contemporâneo, assim como as motivações e desdobramentos de tal prática. O trabalho é um estudo de caso realizado a partir de uma comunidade virtual, mais precisamente, um fórum de discussão sobre a série audiovisual americana Game of Thrones, produzida e exibida pela emissora HBO. A pesquisa apresenta e discute diferentes conceitos sobre fãs, culto, comunidade virtual, cultura fandom, cultura material, gênero fantasia, experiência estética, complexidade e estratégia narrativa, se guiando pela perspectiva metodológica da materialidade da comunicação. A partir de uma questão levantada pelos próprios fãs, este trabalho busca ainda confirmar ou refutar a hipótese de que o rompimento com o clássico modelo narrativo, conhecido como Jornada do Herói, amplamente utilizado por Hollywood nas décadas de 80 e 90, poderia contribuir para a manutenção e/ou recrudescimento do culto em torno da obra audiovisual analisada. Com este propósito, também são demonstrados os dados sobre as observações realizadas em campo e o que estes representam. Por fim, são trazidos à tona novos fenômenos, experiências e intuições como possibilidades de aprofundamento em estudos futuros
