Bad breath or oral malodour can be related to gingival diseases, trimethylaminuria, various inflammation diseases of upper respiratory tract, foreign bodies in nasal cavity etc. Bad breath is usually, in 85 % to 95 % of cases, inflicted by gram negative anaerobic bacteria in tongue coating. These bacteria have a tendency of producing foul-smelling sulphur containing gases called volatile sulphur compounds or VSC. Main cause of bad breath is parodontitis or postnasal drip into posterior part of the tongue. Detecting bad breath is most efficiently done by organoleptic method. By skilled analyser the reason for oral malodour can be determined with great accuracy. For scientific study the most effective method is gas chromatography (GC) with flame photometric detector (FPD). With it almost every component of exhaled air can be detected both quantitative and qualitative. Effective chairside methods include portable sulphur monitors and saliva tests.

This paper investigates the loss of high mass ions due to their initial thermal energy in ion trap mass analyzers. It provides an analytical expression for estimating the percentage loss of ions of a given mass at a particular temperature, in a trap operating under a predetermined set of conditions. The expression we developed can be used to study the loss of ions due to its initial thermal energy in traps which have nonlinear fields as well as those which have linear fields. The expression for the percentage of ions lost is shown to be a function of the temperature of the ensemble of ions, ion mass and ion escape velocity. An analytical expression for the escape velocity has also been derived in terms of the trapping field, drive frequency and ion mass. Because the trapping field is determined by trap design parameters and operating conditions, it has been possible to study the influence of these parameters on ion loss. The parameters investigated include ion temperature, magnitude of the initial potential applied to the ring electrode (which determines the low mass cut-off), trap size, dimensions of apertures in the endcap electrodes and RF drive frequency. Our studies demonstrate that ion loss due to initial thermal energy increases with increase in mass and that, in the traps investigated, ion escape occurs in the radial direction. Reduction in the loss of high mass ions is favoured by lower ion temperatures, increasing low mass cut-off, increasing trap size, and higher RF drive frequencies. However, dimensions of the apertures in the endcap electrodes do not influence ion loss in the range of aperture sizes considered. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

While the under-utilization of licensed spectrum based on measurement studies conducted in a few developed countries has spurred lots of interest in opportunistic spectrum access, there exists no infrastructure today for measuring real-time spectrum occupancy across vast geographical regions. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of SpecNet, a first-of-its-kind platform that allows spectrum analyzers around the world to be networked and efficiently used in a coordinated manner for spectrum measurement as well as implementa- tion and evaluation of distributed sensing applications. We demonstrate the value of SpecNet through three applications: 1) remote spectrum measurement, 2) primary transmitter coverage estimation and 3) Spectrum-Cop that quickly identifies and localizes transmitters in a frequency range and geographic region of interest.

Differential mobility analyzers (DMAs) are commonly used to generate monodisperse nanoparticle aerosols. Commercial DMAs operate at quasi-atmospheric pressures and are therefore not designed to be vacuum-tight. In certain particle synthesis methods, the use of a vacuum-compatible DMA is a requirement as a process step for producing high-purity metallic particles. A vacuum-tight radial DMA (RDMA) has been developed and tested at low pressures. Its performance has been evaluated by using a commercial NANO-DMA as the reference. The performance of this low-pressure RDMA (LP-RDMA) in terms of the width of its transfer function is found to be comparable with that of other NANO-DMAs at atmospheric pressure and is almost independent of the pressure down to 30 mbar. It is shown that LP-RDMA can be used for the classification of nanometer-sized particles (5-20 nm) under low pressure condition (30 mbar) and has been successfully applied to nanoparticles produced by ablating FeNi at low pressures.

Simple geometries which are possible alternatives for the Orbitrap are studied in this paper. We have taken up for numerical investigation two segmented-electrode structures, ORB1 and ORB2, to mimic the electric field of the Orbitrap. In the ORB1, the inner spindle-like electrode and the outer barrel-like electrode of the Orbitrap have been replaced by 35 rings and 35 discs of fixed radii, respectively. In this structure two segmented end cap electrodes have been added. In this geometry, different potentials are applied to the different electrodes keeping top-bottom symmetry intact. In the second geometry, ORB2, the inner and outer electrodes of the Orbitrap were replaced by an approximate step structure which follows the profile of the Orbitrap electrodes. In the present study 45 steps have been used. In the ORB2, like the Orbitrap, the inner electrode is held at a negative potential and the outer electrode is at ground potential. For the purpose of comparing the performance of ORB1 and ORB2 with that of the Orbitrap, the following studies have been undertaken: (1) variation of electric potential, (2) computation of ion trajectories, (3) simulation of image currents. These studies have been carried out using both 2D and 3D Boundary Element Method (BEM), the 3D BEM was developed specifically for this study. It has been seen in these investigations that ORB1 and ORB2 have performance similar to that of the Orbitrap, with the performance of the ORB1 being seen to be marginally superior to that of the ORB2. It has been shown that with proper optimization, geometries containing far fewer electrodes can be used as mass analyzers. A novel technique of optimization of the electric field has been proposed with the objective of minimizing the dependence of axial frequency of ion motion on the initial position of an ion. The results on the optimization of 9 and 15 segmented-electrode traps having the same design as ORB1 show that it can provide accurate mass analysis. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The Alliance for Coastal Technologies (ACT) convened a Workshop on "Recent Developments in In Situ Nutrient Sensors: Applications and Future Directions" from 11-13 December, 2006. The workshop was held at the Georgia Coastal Center in Savannah, Georgia, with local coordination provided by the ACT partner at the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography (University System of Georgia). Since its formation in 2000, ACT partners have been conducting workshops on various sensor technologies and supporting infrastructure for sensor systems. This was the first workshop to revisit a topic area addressed previously by ACT. An earlier workshop on the "State of Technology in the Development and Application of Nutrient Sensors" was held in Savannah, Georgia from 10-12 March, 2003. Participants in the first workshop included representatives from management, industry, and research sectors. Among the topics addressed at the first workshop were characteristics of "ideal" in situ nutrient sensors, particularly with regard to applications in coastal marine waters. In contrast, the present workshop focused on the existing commercial solutions. The in situ nutrient sensor technologies that appear likely to remain the dominant commercial options for the next decade are reagent-based in situ auto-analyzers (or fluidics systems) and an optical approach (spectrophotometric measurement of nitrate). The number of available commercial systems has expanded since 2003, and community support for expanded application and further development of these technologies appears warranted. Application in coastal observing systems, including freshwater as well as estuarine and marine environments, was a focus of the present workshop. This included discussion of possible refinements for sustained deployments as part of integrated instrument packages and means to better promote broader use of nutrient sensors in observing system and management applications. The present workshop also made a number of specific recommendations concerning plans for a demonstration of in situ nutrient sensor technologies that ACT will be conducting in coordination with sensor manufacturers.[PDF contains 40 pages]

Este trabalho tem como desafio falar da Literatura como experimentação de vida, sob a ótica filosofia. A prática de uma abordagem filosófica tendo como horizonte o universo da escrita tende a enriquecer as duas práticas. E sobretudo, a vida, quando não é separada do pensamento. O desafio é mostrar que a vida está presente em todas as manifestações do que é vivo. Sem distinção quanto a sujeito, objeto ou representação. Experimentar é dar as mãos a vida e seus infinitos modos de ser. Não obstante, o trabalho busca mostrar que a arte é essencialmente experimentalista. E que múltiplos caminhos podem levar a ela. Para a enorme tafera temos a companhia de Gilles Deleuze, grande filósofo francês, e seu, não menos importante parceiro, Félix Guattari. Em específico, trata-se de um trabalho que investiga os trajetos da Linguagem como instrumento de expressão em todos os caminhos e conexões possíveis. Deleuze encontrou na Literatura um destino para a criação, uma inspiração para a vida. Ele vislumbrou o escrever como experiência de Devir, como prática essencial, abertura da estrada para o desejo e para a fala coletiva. Para Deleuze, a linguagem é algo vivo, que sofre desvios, que enriquece na medida que se conecta com o seu fora. A linguagem é algo que cresce e se retrai de acordo com os agenciamentos que a envolvem. Falaremos do sopro que emerge das as entrelinhas do texto, o ilimitado da rachadura, a força dos signos. Em suma, falemos da força da escrita e da escritura de novos destinos.

提出了一种基于同步移相技术的1/4波片快轴方位角的实时测量方法。由正交光栅、光阑、检偏器组和四象限探测器实现同步移相功能。检偏器组由4个不同方位角的检偏器组成。通过检偏器组的四束光束的光强由四象限探测器同时测量。1/4波片的快轴方位角由这四光束的光强得到。由于该方法不需旋转偏振器件,从而实现的1/4波片的快轴方位角的实时测量。

Simultaneous phase-shifting ellipsometry based on a grating beamsplitter is presented. In the corresponding setup, an orthogonal grating and analyzer array are used. The latter is composed of four separate analyzers arranged in a 2x2 grid, the polarization axes of which are set to 0, 45, 90, and 135 deg. A mask allows only four diffracted beams of the fist order, having the same optical intensities, to pass. Each beam is incident on one of the analyzers of the array. The intensities of the four beams are simultaneously detected by a quadrant detector. The ellipsometric parameters are obtained using the four intensity signals. The feasibility of simultaneous phase shifting ellipsometry is thus demonstrated. (C) 2008 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers.

A presente pesquisa trata da formação da teoria da pintura durante o período das Seis Dinastias, que ocupa o período que vai do ano 229 ao ano 589 da era presente. São discutidos quatro teóricos principais: Gu Kaizhi, Zong Bing, Wang Wei e Xie He. Além disto, apresentamos uma tradução diretamente do chinês para os textos de cada um dos autores analisados. No decorrer de nossa análise tentaremos demonstrar os elos de continuidade existentes entre os diversos teóricos, baseando-nos nas evidências textuais. Além disto, enfatizaremos o fato de ser este o período em que se forma a teoria da pintura chinesa. O período inicial da história dessa teoria é o tema desta pesquisa

Este trabalho coloca em análise as vivências de professores, alunos, pais e demais participantes da comunidade escolar, tendo como objetivo problematizar os sentidos das práticas presentes na escola. Para tanto, apresenta alguns mecanismos de controle, lançando mão do método arqueológico, propondo analisadores e, como indica Foucault, operando descentramentos. Trata-se de uma análise que se propõe a passar por fora das instituições cristalizadas, percorrendo as tecnologias de poder que as produziram. No mesmo sentido, as práticas cotidianas operam como analisadores, levando a problematizar as linhas que as produzem. Este trabalho se baseia nas experiências da autora como docente, diretora de escola, bem como nos seus registros como coordenadora regional de educação no estado do Rio de Janeiro. Como resultado destaca-se a descoberta de saberes cristalizados que dialogam com aqueles insurgidos contra os efeitos centralizadores de poder relações de resistências. Também aponta para a necessidade de ampliar a discussão dos mecanismos por meio dos quais as práticas na escola adotam a perspectiva disciplinar, dentre os quais destaca-se a pedagogia higienizada. Discute-se a afirmação de certos saberes, produtores de subjetividades obedientes, sistematicamente atravessadas por práticas de resistência, problematizando e questionando as verdades produzidas, no sentido de possibilitar a invenção de outras práticas num devir-revolucionário.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo problematizar as práticas do assistente social a partir da minha experiência profissional nas áreas da saúde mental e assistência social. Tais práticas circulam principalmente entre os direitos e a filantropia, que são analisados nesse trabalho como relações de poder e como mecanismos de controle da vida. No primeiro capítulo, problematizo minha experiência na área da saúde mental, principalmente no que tange ao trabalho com famílias. Tal experiência propiciou diversos questionamentos acerca do papel que vem sendo atribuído às famílias pelas políticas públicas. No segundo capítulo, coloco em análise minhas experiências em um Centro de Referência de Assistência Social (CRAS) localizado em Angra dos Reis. Nesse momento da dissertação, problematizo as práticas do assistente social, como a elaboração de relatórios, as visitas domiciliares, o fornecimento de cestas básicas, a atuação no Programa Bolsa Família. No terceiro capítulo discorro acerca dos direitos e da filantropia na política de assistência social e sobre a participação política nesse contexto. Neste capítulo trago referências conceituais e históricas, no sentido de problematizar as práticas do assistente social na política de assistência.
