ABSTRACT. This project involves the design and implementation of a digital real-time audio processor for electrical instruments (guitars, basses, keyboards, etc.). The processor is based on the Raspberry Pi B + card: low cost computer, developed in UK in 2012. First, it was necessary to make the cards assume the functionality of a real time audio processor. A Linux operating system called Raspberry (Raspbian) was installed. In this Project is used Pure Data (Pd): a graphical programming language developed in the 90s by Miller Puckette intending to be focused on creating multimedia and computer music events. The role of Pd is an intermediate layer between the hardware and the software. It is responsible for taking blocks of N samples of the analog/digital converter and route it through the signal flow. Secondly, it is necessary to implemented the different audio effects. There are delays based effects, digital filter and dynamics effects. Specifically, the implemented effects are: delay, flanger, vibrato, Schroeder reverb, filters (lowpass, highpass and bandpass), parametric equalizer and compressor and expander dynamics. These effects have been implemented in C language according to the Pd API. As a result, it has been obtained an object for each effect, which is instantiated in Pd. In this Project, the problems of every step are exposed with his corresponding solution. It is inlcuded a step-by-step guide to configure the card and achieve perform a bypass signal process and a simple effect.

This article expands on an earlier concept of horror autotoxicus linked to digital contagions of spam and network Virality.1 It aims to present, as such, a broader conception of cosmic topologies of imitation (CTI) intended to better grasp the relatively new practices of social media marketing. Similar to digital autotoxicity, CTI provide the perfect medium for sharing while also spreading contagions that can potentially contaminate the medium itself. However, whereas digital contagions are perhaps limited to the toxicity of a technical layer of information viruses, the contagions of CTI are an all pervasive auto-toxicity which can infect human bodies and technologies increasingly in concert with each other. This is an exceptional autotoxicus that significantly blurs the immunological line of exemption between self and nonself, and potentially, the anthropomorphic distinction between individual self and collective others.

String searching within a large corpus of data is an important component of digital forensic (DF) analysis techniques such as file carving. The continuing increase in capacity of consumer storage devices requires corresponding im-provements to the performance of string searching techniques. As string search-ing is a trivially-parallelisable problem, GPGPU approaches are a natural fit – but previous studies have found that local storage presents an insurmountable performance bottleneck. We show that this need not be the case with modern hardware, and demonstrate substantial performance improvements from the use of single and multiple GPUs when searching for strings within a typical forensic disk image.

The chapters of the thesis focus on a limited variety of selected themes in EU privacy and data protection law. Chapter 1 sets out the general introduction on the research topic. Chapter 2 touches upon the methodology used in the research. Chapter 3 conceptualises the basic notions from a legal standpoint. Chapter 4 examines the current regulatory regime applicable to digital health technologies, healthcare emergencies, privacy, and data protection. Chapter 5 provides case studies on the application deployed in the Covid-19 scenario, from the perspective of privacy and data protection. Chapter 6 addresses the post-Covid European regulatory initiatives on the subject matter, and its potential effects on privacy and data protection. Chapter 7 is the outcome of a six-month internship with a company in Italy and focuses on the protection of fundamental rights through common standardisation and certification, demonstrating that such standards can serve as supporting tools to guarantee the right to privacy and data protection in digital health technologies. The thesis concludes with the observation that finding and transposing European privacy and data protection standards into scenarios, such as public healthcare emergencies where digital health technologies are deployed, requires rapid coordination between the European Data Protection Authorities and the Member States guarantee that individual privacy and data protection rights are ensured.

In recent years, energy modernization has focused on smart engineering advancements. This entails designing complicated software and hardware for variable-voltage digital substations. A digital substation consists of electrical and auxiliary devices, control and monitoring devices, computers, and control software. Intelligent measurement systems use digital instrument transformers and IEC 61850-compliant information exchange protocols in digital substations. Digital instrument transformers used for real-time high-voltage measurements should combine advanced digital, measuring, information, and communication technologies. Digital instrument transformers should be cheap, small, light, and fire- and explosion-safe. These smaller and lighter transformers allow long-distance transmission of an optical signal that gauges direct or alternating current. Cost-prohibitive optical converters are a problem. To improve the tool's accuracy, amorphous alloys are used in the magnetic circuits and compensating feedback. Large-scale voltage converters can be made cheaper by using resistive, capacitive, or hybrid voltage dividers. In known electronic voltage transformers, the voltage divider output is generally on the low-voltage side, facilitating power supply organization. Combining current and voltage transformers reduces equipment size, installation, and maintenance costs. These two gadgets cost less together than individually. To increase commercial power metering accuracy, current and voltage converters should be included into digital instrument transformers so that simultaneous analogue-to-digital samples are obtained. Multichannel ADC microcircuits with synchronous conversion start allow natural parallel sample drawing. Digital instrument transformers are created adaptable to substation operating circumstances and environmental variables, especially ambient temperature. An embedded microprocessor auto-diagnoses and auto-calibrates the proposed digital instrument transformer.

This paper presents a new generalized solution for DC bus capacitors voltage balancing in back-to-back m level diode-clamped multilevel converters connecting AC networks. The solution is based on the DC bus average power flow and exploits the switching configuration redundancies. The proposed balancing solution is particularized for the back-to-back multilevel structure with m=5 levels. This back-to-back converter is studied working with bidirectional power flow, connecting an induction machine to the power grid.

Digital X-ray detector technologies provide several advantages when compared with screen-film (SF) systems: better diagnostic quality of the radiographic image, increased dose efficiency, better dynamic range and possible reduction of radiation exposure to the patient. The transition from traditional SF systems to digital technology-based systems highlights the importance of the discussion around technical factors such as image acquisition, themanagement of patient dose and diagnostic image quality. Radiographers should be aware of these aspects concerning their clinical practice regarding the advantages and limitations of digital detectors. Newdigital technologies require an up-to-date of scientific knowledge concerning their use in projection radiography. This is the second of a two-part review article focused on a technical overview of digital radiography detectors. This article provides a discussion about the issues related to the image acquisition requirements and advantages of digital technologies, the management of patient dose and the diagnostic image quality.

PURPOSE: To analyze and compare the Ground Reaction Forces (GRF), during the stance phase of walking in pregnant women in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, and non pregnant women. METHODS: 20 women, 10 pregnant and 10 non pregnant, voluntarily took part in this study. GRF were measured (1000 Hz) using a force platform (BERTEC 4060-15), an amplifier (BERTEC AM 6300) and an analogical-digital converter of 16 Bits (Biopac). RESULTS: The study showed that there were significant differences among the two groups concerning absolute values of time of the stance phase. In what concerns to the normalized values the most significant differences were verified in the maximums values of vertical force (Fz3, Fz1) and in the impulse of the antero-posterior force (Fy2), taxes of growth of the vertical force, and in the period of time for the antero-posterior force (Fy) be null. CONCLUSIONS: It is easier for the pregnant to continue forward movement (push-off phase). O smaller growth rates in what concerns to the maximum of the vertical force (Fz1) for the pregnant, can be associated with a slower speed of gait, as an adaptation strategy to maintain the balance, to compensate the alterations in the position of her center of gravity due to the load increase. The data related to the antero-posterior component of the force (Fy), shows that there is a significant difference between the pregnant woman’s left foot and right foot, which accuses a different functional behavior in each one of the feet, during the propulsion phase (TS).
