Annotated almanac, 1778

Almanac containing interleaved pages and sporadic annotations on the calendar pages by John Winthrop. The calendar pages are typically annotated with one or two notes at the bottom recording household activities. The inside back cover has three handwritten references to printed texts. The interleaved pages contain entries with almost daily notes of social engagements and travel during the year.

The calendar pages are typically annotated with one or two notes at the bottom recording household activities, and a tabulation of miles traveled. The laid-in leaf includes sporadic entries about asthma fits and household activities by Hannah Winthrop, and entries on firing the household chimneys, baptisms and deaths in the community, and a bill of mortality for 1771 in John Winthrop's hand.

The unruled pages include entries on the weather, household activities and accounting notes, and a note of the number of inhabitants of Massachusetts.

There are entries noting the deaths of Harvard undergraduates Isaac Wellington (who drowned) and Francis Brigham (who died of a fever). The almanac is the version printed and sold in Boston by T. & J. Fleet.
