The treatment of domestic and industrial effluents through Wastewater Treatment Plants (WTPs) generates a residue termed sewage sludge, rich in organic matter, high-volume, occasionally containing pathogens and heavy metals. The sludge generation can minimize the benefits brought by the treatment of sewage, because this residue does not always receive appropriate treatment before final disposal. The disposal is another problem related to sludge. Landfills generally does not have physical space and alternatives such as the use in agriculture requires an intense treatment that could be in many cases operational or economic unfeasible. The objective of this work is the theoretical research about the processes of stabilization of the sludge by anaerobic digestion and the methanogenic activity during the process. Through analysis of each step and contemplating each relevant factor in anaerobic digestion process in order to optimize them, we proposed a theoretical model of reactors capable of stabilize the sludge, reduce its volume and eliminate pathogens. The obtained configuration consists of two anaerobic reactors connected in series. The first one operates in the range mesophilic temperature (35 ° C) and has higher hydraulic retention time (25 days) working primarily in the stabilization of organic matter present in the sludge and producing biogas, whereas the second one operates in the thermophilic range (55 ° C) in order to eliminate pathogens, and to reduce the volume. The hydraulic retention time in the second reactor is lower (10 days). Both mesophilic and thermophilic processes were efficient in what was proposed, promoting the stabilization of organic matter present in the sludge and significant reduction of pathogens. No Brasil, 90% de pacientes com insuficiência renal crônica ou aguda dependem dos procedimentos de hemodiálise para remover produtos de degradação metabólica, excesso de água e de sais minerais do organismo, a fim de restaurar o equilíbrio ácido-base e eletrolítico. Entretanto, o processo de osmose reversa, que visa remover todos os íons da água, também remove o cloro, que exerce efeito bacteriostático sob diversas bactérias autóctones, que passam a se multiplicar na água. Entre os principais grupos dessas bactérias, estão os bastonetes Gram negativos não fermentadores (BGN) e os mais frequentemente associados a bacteremias, em pacientes de hemodiálise são Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia e Burkholderia cepacia. Essas bactérias podem produzir biofilmes, o que torna sua eliminação do encanamento quase impossível. Assim, o objetivo do trabalho foi a análise de água e do dialisato, da Unidade de Hemodiálise de um Hospital Universitário, na pesquisa dos três BGNs citados. Também foram utilizadas 42 cepas previamente isoladas do mesmo local. Entre as 67 amostras de água, foram isoladas 8 cepas de Pseudomonas aeruginosa e as 50 cepas foram submetidas à pesquisa do gene rpoS, um dos responsáveis pela produção de biofilme. Esse gene foi observado em 20 (40%) cepas, sendo 16 (80%) P. aeruginosa, seguida por 3 (15%) cepas de S. maltophilia e 1 (5%) de B. cepacia. Essas cepas foram submetidas à produção de biofilme a 35ºC (temperatura ótima de crescimento) e a 20ºC (temperatura média da água no encanamento da Unidade de Hemodiálise), em aço inoxidável (material de muitos instrumentos cirúrgicos), PVC (matéria prima da tubulação) e plástico de poliestireno (capacidade de produção de biofilmes em diferentes materiais). The automobile industry is increasingly interested in reducing vehicle weight for greater speed, lower fuel consumption and emissions, through innovation of materials and processes. One way to do this is to seek the replacement of conventional processes by the use of structural adhesives. Structural adhesives are highly resistant materials, which can replace rivets, bolts and welds allowing the substrate / adhesive assemble is stronger than the substrate itself. One of the major advantages of gluing with respect to welding is its esthetic appearance, since it does not leave marks. For this reason, parts to be soldered require a minimum thickness so that the marks do not appear, since the pieces from gluing have no restriction as to the thickness. By replacing the vibration welding process for gluing process of the instrument panel parts of an automobile, one obtains a reduction of the thickness of the parts and therefore it decreases the weight of the car. This work aims to study the various structural adhesives that already exist on the market to be applied on the instrument panel. The mechanical test performed to measure the maximum adhesive strength was the Lap Shear Test at 23°C (room temperature), -35°C and 85°C. The types of adhesives used were the hot-melt and the bi-component. By the results obtained, it is in favor using the bi-component for application to the union of instrument panel parts

O pescado e seus derivados têm uma grande importância na dieta, em todo o mundo. Sabe-se que peixes e frutos do mar fortalecem o sistema imunológico, contribuem para a redução dos níveis de colesterol, diminuem as chances de depressão, ajudam na formação dos músculos e protegem contra doenças cardiovasculares. Também, são ricos em vitaminas lipossolúveis A, D e E, além do ômega 3. Muitas vezes, esses produtos são consumidos crus ou com pouco preparo e com isso faz-se necessário medidas higiênico- sanitárias, pois podem ser contaminados com micro-organismos causadores de doenças. A análise microbiológica dos alimentos para se verificar a presença de micro-organismos prejudiciais é fundamental para se conhecer as condições de higiene nas quais estes alimentos foram preparados. Assim, 80 amostras de peixes e frutos do mar de peixarias e supermercados de Botucatu, SP, foram analisadas com o objetivo de verificar se esses alimentos estão dentro dos padrões estabelecidos pela legislação brasileira, através da RDC nº12, através da detecção da presença de Salmonella sp., Staphylococcus aureus e determinação do número mais provável de coliformes termotolerantes (CT), mesmo que este último não faça parte dos parâmetros para esse alimento, mas foi pesquisado para avaliação de suas condições higiênicas. Cada amostra (25 gramas) foi homogeneizada em 225ml de água peptonada e para a detecção de S. aureus, utilizou-se método spread Baird Parker, seguida de catalase, coagulase e kit Dry Spot. Para a detecção de Salmonella, utilizou-se caldo tetrationato (35ºC/24h) e Rapapport (42ºC/24h), semeados em ágar SS e XLD. As colônias foram testadas em TSI, ágar fenilalanina e testadas em poli soros somático e flagelar. 1. 1. The oxygen consumption in workers of two simpatric leaf cutting ants, Atta laevigata and Atta sexdens rubropilosa was measured at different temperatures. 2. 2. In the temperature range between 5-35°C, with 5°C increments, the respiratory rates increased with temperature, but the R-T curves of both ants showed neither a marked drop at the low end nor a break at the high end; except between 30 and 35°C. 3. 3. The respiratory rates of A. s. rubropilosa were higher than those of A. laevigata and in the midrange of temperatures, the rates of A. laevigata increased faster than those of A. s. rubropilosa. 4. 4. Q10 values did not indicate regions of compensation for temperature in both ants, but suggested that adjustments may occur at high temperatures (25-35°C), as expected for tropical ants. 5. 5. Collective food services have been increasing worldwide, and the self-service restaurant has been the current preference by consumers. Considering the importance of hygienic quality of food, the microbiological composition of ready-to-eat food was assessed. In the second semester of 2008, 20 samples of meals, mainly meat-based foods, were collected from different self-service restaurants in Araçatuba city, SP. Bacteriological analyses were performed following the conventional methodologies, and the results were compared with the standards established by the effective Brazilian legislation. Coliforms at 35ºC were detected in 90% of analyzed samples. Coliforms at 45°C were found in 55% of the samples and, among these, in 63.63%, the occurrence of Escherichia coli was confirmed. Coagulase-positive staphylococci were detected in 10% of samples and no sample showed Salmonella spp. or Bacillus cereus contamination. Sulfite reducing clostridia at 42o C were not investigated in this study. These findings indicate the need for a rigorous approach for improving the sanitary conditions during preparation and presentation of ready-to-eat food, as the consumption of contaminated products represents a potential risk to public health.

The objective was to evaluate the effect of thermocycling on the color variation of three different composite resins . We studied was Resin Enamel on 3 levels : ( Esthetic X , Opallis and Venus ) ; Resin Dentin in three levels : ( Esthetic X , Opallis and Venus ) and Thermocycling on level 1 : ( 3,000 cycles ) ; variable was the change of color gauged by spectrophotometry . 60 specimens , subdivided into 6 groups were made : GI - Esthetic X Enamel ; GII - Esthetic X dentin ; GIII - Opallis Enamel ; GIV - Opallis dentin ; GV - Enamel and GVI Venus - Venus dentin . The specimens were prepared with a matrix to standardize samples . The inserts of incrementally resins and polymerized with a halogen light Ultralux unit ( Dabi Atlante , Brazil ) with a power of 450mW / cm ² . After fabrication , underwent color reading with a UV Visible Spectrophotometer reflection , UV -2450 ( Shimadzu , Kyoto , Japan ) , with the changes calculated by the system CIE L * a * b * . Then isolates were stored in artificial saliva at 35 ° C ± 2 ° C during 3 months containers being subjected to the effects of thermal cycling for 3000 cycles over the range of 5C to 55C . Again subjected to chromatic evaluation. For the analysis of the results of color change of the studied resins was applied ANOVA two factors at 5 % . The results showed a statistically equal resins enamel GI and GV ( p = 0.79 ) ; the same was not observed for GI and G III resins , where the color change was higher for resin G III ( p = 0.0000002 ) . The same was observed between G III and GV , where the resin enamel G III showed a statistically superior to the color change ( p = 0.0000005 ) Average . Resins to dentin was there a statistical equality between the materials studied . We conclude that the resins studied change in color and resin enamel G III was the most suffered major color changes after aging by thermocycling .

A thermotolerant strain of Rhizopus oryzae was grown in three agro-industrial by-products: brewers’ rice, corn grits and wheat bran. Different substrates, cultivation time, moisture content, additional nitrogen sources, pH and temperature of incubation were evaluated aiming to optimize growing conditions. The highest enzymatic activity was observed after 24 h of cultivation using wheat bran as substrate with the following salt solutions: NH4NO3, MgSO4.7H2O and (NH4)2SO4 0.1% at temperature of 35°C. It was observed that changes in the pH range 4.0-6.0 did not significantly affect α-amylase activity. The optimum operation conditions were 75°C and pH 4.5. The enzymes remained stable at 75°C in the absence of substrate for 25 min.
