Kuormitustestaus on osa web-sovellusten kehitystä ja käyttöönottoa. Sillä varmistetaan sovellusten toimivuus ennalta määrätyn kuorman alla. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) on palvelintuote nykyaikaisten web-sovellusten luontiin ja ylläpitoon. Työssä vertaillaan kahta eri uormitustestaustyökalua: SilkPerformer 2008 ja Visual Studio Team System 2008 Test Edition ja valitaan MOSS – web-sovelluksille paremmin sopiva työkalu. Työssä vertaillaan työkaluja niiden ominaisuuksien perusteella sekä suorittamalla kuormitustestausta testausta varten luodulle MOSS – web-sovellukselle. Vaikuttavien tekijöiden perusteella työkaluja arvioidaan ja tämän perusteella saadaan tulos vertailulle. Työn tuloksena Visual Studio Team System 2008 Test Edition sopii paremmin MOSS – web-sovelluksen kuormitustestausvälineeksi. Vertailussa kuitenkin havaittiin, että työkalut ovat melko tasavertaisia, ja käytännön tilanteesta riippuu, kumpi sopii paremmin. Tämä työ auttaa valinnan teossa.

Web application performance testing is an emerging and important field of software engineering. As web applications become more commonplace and complex, the need for performance testing will only increase. This paper discusses common concepts, practices and tools that lie at the heart of web application performance testing. A pragmatic, hands-on approach is assumed where applicable; real-life examples of test tooling, execution and analysis are presented right next to the underpinning theory. At the client-side, web application performance is primarily driven by the amount of data transmitted over the wire. At the server-side, selection of programming language and platform, implementation complexity and configuration are the primary contributors to web application performance. Web application performance testing is an activity that requires delicate coordination between project stakeholders, developers, system administrators and testers in order to produce reliable and useful results. Proper test definition, execution, reporting and repeatable test results are of utmost importance. Open-source performance analysis tools such as Apache JMeter, Firebug and YSlow can be used to realise effective web application performance tests. A sample case study using these tools is presented in this paper. The sample application was found to perform poorly even under the moderate load incurred by the sample tests.

With the growth in new technologies, using online tools have become an everyday lifestyle. It has a greater impact on researchers as the data obtained from various experiments needs to be analyzed and knowledge of programming has become mandatory even for pure biologists. Hence, VTT came up with a new tool, R Executables (REX) which is a web application designed to provide a graphical interface for biological data functions like Image analysis, Gene expression data analysis, plotting, disease and control studies etc., which employs R functions to provide results. REX provides a user interactive application for the biologists to directly enter the values and run the required analysis with a single click. The program processes the given data in the background and prints results rapidly. Due to growth of data and load on server, the interface has gained problems concerning time consumption, poor GUI, data storage issues, security, minimal user interactive experience and crashes with large amount of data. This thesis handles the methods by which these problems were resolved and made REX a better application for the future. The old REX was developed using Python Django and now, a new programming language, Vaadin has been implemented. Vaadin is a Java framework for developing web applications and the programming language is extremely similar to Java with new rich components. Vaadin provides better security, better speed, good and interactive interface. In this thesis, subset functionalities of REX was selected which includes IST bulk plotting and image segmentation and implemented those using Vaadin. A code of 662 lines was programmed by me which included Vaadin as the front-end handler while R language was used for back-end data retrieval, computing and plotting. The application is optimized to allow further functionalities to be migrated with ease from old REX. Future development is focused on including Hight throughput screening functions along with gene expression database handling

Abstract: There is a lot of hype around the Internet of Things along with talk about 100 billion devices within 10 years time. The promise of innovative new services and efficiency savings is fueling interest in a wide range of potential applications across many sectors including smart homes, healthcare, smart grids, smart cities, retail, and smart industry. However, the current reality is one of fragmentation and data silos. W3C is seeking to fix that by exposing IoT platforms through the Web with shared semantics and data formats as the basis for interoperability. This talk will address the abstractions needed to move from a Web of pages to a Web of things, and introduce the work that is being done on standards and on open source projects for a new breed of Web servers on microcontrollers to cloud based server farms. Speaker Biography -Dave Raggett : Dave has been involved at the heart of web standards since 1992, and part of the W3C Team since 1995. As well as working on standards, he likes to dabble with software, and more recently with IoT hardware. He has participated in a wide range of European research projects on behalf of W3C/ERCIM. He currently focuses on Web payments, and realising the potential for the Web of Things as an evolution from the Web of pages. Dave has a doctorate from the University of Oxford. He is a visiting professor at the University of the West of England, and lives in the UK in a small town near to Bath.

The PSIPRED protein structure prediction server allows users to submit a protein sequence, perform a prediction of their choice and receive the results of the prediction both textually via e-mail and graphically via the web. The user may select one of three prediction methods to apply to their sequence: PSIPRED, a highly accurate secondary structure prediction method; MEMSAT 2, a new version of a widely used transmembrane topology prediction method; or GenTHREADER, a sequence profile based fold recognition method.

The FunFOLD2 server is a new independent server that integrates our novel protein–ligand binding site and quality assessment protocols for the prediction of protein function (FN) from sequence via structure. Our guiding principles were, first, to provide a simple unified resource to make our function prediction software easily accessible to all via a simple web interface and, second, to produce integrated output for predictions that can be easily interpreted. The server provides a clean web interface so that results can be viewed on a single page and interpreted by non-experts at a glance. The output for the prediction is an image of the top predicted tertiary structure annotated to indicate putative ligand-binding site residues. The results page also includes a list of the most likely binding site residues and the types of predicted ligands and their frequencies in similar structures. The protein–ligand interactions can also be interactively visualized in 3D using the Jmol plug-in. The raw machine readable data are provided for developers, which comply with the Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction data standards for FN predictions. The TCABR data analysis and acquisition system has been upgraded to support a joint research programme using remote participation technologies. The architecture of the new system uses Java language as programming environment. Since application parameters and hardware in a joint experiment are complex with a large variability of components, requirements and specification solutions need to be flexible and modular, independent from operating system and computer architecture. To describe and organize the information on all the components and the connections among them, systems are developed using the extensible Markup Language (XML) technology. The communication between clients and servers uses remote procedure call (RPC) based on the XML (RPC-XML technology). The integration among Java language, XML and RPC-XML technologies allows to develop easily a standard data and communication access layer between users and laboratories using common software libraries and Web application. The libraries allow data retrieval using the same methods for all user laboratories in the joint collaboration, and the Web application allows a simple graphical user interface (GUI) access. The TCABR tokamak team in collaboration with the IPFN (Instituto de Plasmas e Fusao Nuclear, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Universidade Tecnica de Lisboa) is implementing this remote participation technologies. Detta arbete har bedrivits i syfte att kartlägga funktionalitet, teknik och användningsområde gällande Web Services. Innehållet utgör således en teoretisk utvärdering av Web Services, samt tester av grundläggande programmeringslösningar. De frågor arbetet ämnar besvara är hur en Web Services på lämpligt sätt kan baseras på en befintlig tjänst, samt på vilket sätt denna Web Services kan göra aktuell tjänst lättare att använda. Dessutom belyses eventuella problem som kan uppstå i samband med denna Web Services-anpassning. I syfte att presentera ett lösningsförslag på ovan nämnda frågor granskades, via en litteraturstudie, ett antal informatikrelaterade begrepp liksom faktorer förknippade med kommersiell verksamhet på Internet. Erhållen teoretisk fakta analyserades via empiriskt arbete. Resultaten av analysen indikerar att en Web Services baserad på karttjänsten MapService kan innebära vissa fördelar för det aktuella företaget såväl som för deras kunder. Att bredda tjänsteutbudet med en marknadsdominerande standard innebär vissa fördelar för ett företag, inte minst i form av ett potentiellt större kundunderlag. Kundens vinster utgörs främst av för ändamålet utformade toolkits. Dessa hjälpmedel och verktyg underlättar implementationen av aktuell tjänst. Den ansats som här valts, att designa Web Servicen som en parser (tolk/konverterare) vars huvudsakliga syfte är att förmedla kommunikation mellan användare och befintlig tjänst, har vissa fördelar. Främst det faktum att redan befintlig funktionalitet kan utnyttjas. All kommunikation mellan användare och server hanteras av Web Servicen, som enligt denna princip utgör ett nytt gränssnitt med vilket tjänsten MapService kan användas. Till följd av det omfattande teoretiska utredningsarbetet har detta arbete inte genererat några prototyper, annat än på ett teoretiskt plan. Det problem som återstår är att utreda exakt hur ovan nämnda parser skall vara utformad, för att sedan implementera all funktionalitet som en helhet.

This work presents the tVoice, software that manipulates tags languages, extracting information and, being integral part of the VoiceProxy system, it aids bearers of special needs in the access to the Web. This system is responsible for the search and treatment of the documents in the Web, extracting the textual information contained in those documents and preceding the capability of generating eventually through translation techniques, an audio script, used by the of interface subsystem of VoiceProxy, the iVoice, in the process of voice synthesis. In this stage the tVoice, besides the treatment of the tag language HTML, processes other two formats of documents, PDF and XHTML. Additionally to allow that, besides the iVoice, other interface subsystems can make use of the tVoice through remote access, we propose distribution systems techniques based in the model Client-Server providers operations of the fashion of a proxy server treatment of documents

Web service-based application is an architectural style, where a collection of Web services communicates to each other to execute processes. With the popularity increase of developing Web service-based application and once Web services may change, in terms of functional and non-functional Quality of Service (QoS), we need mechanisms to monitor, diagnose, and repair Web services into a Web Application. This work presents a description of self-healing architecture that deals with these mechanisms. Other contributions of this paper are using the proxy server to measure Web service QoS values and to employ some strategies to recovery the effects from misbehaved Web services. © 2008 IEEE.

In the last years there was an exponential growth in the offering of Web-enabled distance courses and in the number of enrolments in corporate and higher education using this modality. However, the lack of efficient mechanisms that assures user authentication in this sort of environment, in the system login as well as throughout his session, has been pointed out as a serious deficiency. Some studies have been led about possible biometric applications for web authentication. However, password based authentication still prevails. With the popularization of biometric enabled devices and resultant fall of prices for the collection of biometric traits, biometrics is reconsidered as a secure remote authentication form for web applications. In this work, the face recognition accuracy, captured on-line by a webcam in Internet environment, is investigated, simulating the natural interaction of a person in the context of a distance course environment. Partial results show that this technique can be successfully applied to confirm the presence of users throughout the course attendance in an educational distance course. An efficient client/server architecture is also proposed. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

Este artigo apresenta um estudo experimental de técnicas de identificação paramétrica aplicadas à modelagem dinâmica de um servidor web Apache. Foi desenvolvido um arranjo experimental para simular variações de carga no servidor. O arranjo é composto por dois computadores PC, sendo um deles utilizado para executar o servidor Apache e o outro utilizado como um gerador de carga, solicitando requisições de serviço ao servidor Apache. Foram estimados modelos paramétricos auto-regressivos (AR) para diferentes pontos de operação e de condição de carga. Cada ponto de operação foi definido em termos dos valores médios para o parâmetro de entrada MaxClients (parâmetro utilizado para definir o número máximo de processos ativos) e a saída percentual de consumo de CPU (Central Processing Unit) do servidor Apache. Para cada ponto de operação foram coletadas 600 amostras, com um intervalo de amostragem de 5 segundos. Metade do conjunto de amostras coletadas em cada ponto de operação foi utilizada para estimação do modelo, enquanto que a outra metade foi utilizada para validação. Um estudo da ordem mais adequada do modelo mostrou que, para um ponto de operação com valor reduzido de MaxClients, um modelo AR de 7a ordem pode ser satisfatório. Para valores mais elevados de MaxClients, os resultados mostraram que são necessários modelos de ordem mais elevada, devido às não-linearidades inerentes ao sistema.
