Introducción Durante los últimos veinte años, Costa Rica experimenta una serie de cambios socioeconómicos y tecnológicos, impulsados principalmente por el seguimiento de continuos paradigmas económicos. Así, el modelo de sustitución de importaciones y economía centralizada de fuerte intervención estatal terminó con la crisis de principios de los 80, iniciándose un inacabado proceso de reforma y ajuste que todavía continúa. Así, se han visto pasar “temas de moda” en la discusión económica, tales como el ajuste estructural; la irrupción de dogmas económicos de corte neoliberal; el surgimiento de corrientes económicas alternativas que contrapesan dichos dogmas, tales como la economía ambiental, la economía ecológica, la economía institucional; la reforma fiscal y, finalmente, una creciente presión para integrar más la economía al exterior y abrir más las fronteras al comercio internacional.

La agricultura representa un rubro importante para la economía del país, actualmente se están implementando medidas para volver el sector más rentable como lo fue hace unas décadas. Los ingenios procesan gran parte de lo que se cultiva a nivel nacional, además de ser un sector desarrollado por su tecnología y los productos y subproductos que se obtienen de la caña de azúcar, debido a exigencias de calidad e impacto al medio ambiente. El etanol representa un subproducto favorable al medio ambiente pero para su producción una amenaza. Lo anterior representa la base para la implementación de una auditoría agrícola aplicada a los ingenios azucareros, que permita velar por la relación entre las finanzas y el medio ambiente. La investigación se llevó a cabo utilizando el método de estudio exploratorio-explicativo y analítico, así como el enfoque metodológico Hipotético-Deductivo con el propósito de analizar las variables de la auditoría agrícola, la gestión contable y administrativa, obteniendo información para definir el grado de conocimiento acerca de la implementación de una auditoría agrícola por parte de los profesionales en contaduría pública; así como los ingenios de El Salvador considerados como la población objeto de estudio. La muestra para los profesionales se obtuvo utilizando fórmula estadística, obteniendo como resultado sesenta y nueve encuestas. Para los ingenios se tomó como muestra toda la población. Dentro de la propuesta de investigación se destacan puntos como: preauditoría, la cual consiste en obtener un entendimiento del cliente y de la situación medioambiental que le rodea, evaluando aspectos como la situación física o técnica, legal y de dirección, para obtener un mejor entendimiento de como el ingenio lleva a cabo su actividad e influye al medio que le rodea. Otro elemento importante dentro de la propuesta es la implementación de la auditoría propiamente dicha, ya que en ella se encuentran las áreas de evaluación que determinaran la situación en la que se encuentra el ingenio, como la información ambientalista, cumplimiento legal, gestión de calidad relacionada con la parte ambiental e financiera y por último la parte de información financiera. Por último la post auditoría, en la cual se informan y se confrontan con la administración los hallazgos identificados en la auditoría definitiva, con el fin de tomar las medidas correctivas pertinentes, en tal sentido, los programas están encaminados a verificar las correcciones de los hallazgos y observaciones determinados. Con la investigación se concluye que es evidente la falta de conocimiento de los profesionales en contaduría pública sobre la existencia e implementación de una auditoría agrícola, ya que no existe material bibliográfico y a la conformidad de los directivos de los ingenios al no demandar un servicio de calidad a los profesionales en contaduría pública. También se formulan recomendaciones encaminadas a subsanar las situaciones encontradas, como el involucramiento de ambos sectores, en los cambios y nuevas tecnologías en materia agrícola que surgen a nivel mundial e investigar los mecanismos o herramientas que les permitan brindar y solicitar un servicio de calidad, buscar el crecimiento y desarrollo tomando en cuenta el impacto al medio ambiente, incorporar dentro de los programas de educación continuada los cambios que surgen en materia agrícola.

O processo de Harmonização Contabilística é um processo que surge em consequência do processo de Globalização da Economia. Com a evolução do comércio global, exige-se que a informação contabilística seja mais uniforme entre os diversos países/continentes, para que os utilizadores dessa informação possam tomar as melhores decisões. Em Portugal, o referido processo tem sido influenciado pela regulamentação produzida a nível europeu. Fruto desta influência, a partir de 01 de janeiro de 2005 as empresas cotadas em bolsa ficaram obrigadas a aplicar as International Accounting Standards/International Financial Reporting Standards (IAS/IFRS) e as Standing Interpretations Committee/International Financial Reporting Interpretations Committee (SIC/IFRIC), de acordo com o Regulamento 1606/CE/2002. Em 2003, a CNC elaborou um projeto de linhas de orientação para um novo modelo de normalização contabilística, documento que serviria de base ao Projeto do novo Sistema de Normalização Contabilística (SNC), tendo o novo SNC entrado em vigor em 1 de janeiro de 2010. É, pois, dentro destas alterações introduzidas no normativo contabilístico nacional que se desenvolve este estudo, que tem como principal objetivo analisar e quantificar os impactos sobre o Capital Próprio, decorrentes da adoção do SNC em empresas do setor agrícola. Para o efeito utilizamos uma amostra de 6980 empresas do referido setor. Dos resultados obtidos concluímos que 4910 empresas, o que representa 70,34% do total, apresentaram alterações no Capital Próprio. A rubrica Reserva foi aquela que mais vezes sofreu variações, tendo sido alterada no Balanço de 4008 empresas. As alterações no Capital Próprio têm impacto nos rácios de Solvabilidade Financeira e Autonomia Financeira. Uma análise desses indicadores permitiu-nos concluir que, em termos de Solvabilidade Financeira, 6,32 % das empresas (441) pioraram a sua situação, 81,15 % (5664) mantiveram-na inalterada e 6,72 % (469) melhoraram a sua Solvabilidade Financeira. Relativamente à Autonomia Financeira as variações foram menos significativas, pois 99,07 % (6915 empresas) mantiveram inalterado o seu desempenho, 0,11 % (8 empresas) pioraram a sua situação relativamente ao presente indicador e 0,19 % (13 empresas) melhoraram. No entanto, estes indicadores de equilíbrio financeiro devem ser analisados num contexto de transição, uma vez que não se verificou um real aumento ou diminuição da estrutura de Capitais Próprios destas empresas, mas apenas uma nova reconfiguração contabilística.

Alrededor de los años noventa, Costa Rica experimentó una crisis en los precios de exportación del café. Esto motivo a que una parte del convenio de la Escuela de Ciencias Geográficas con la Universidad de Utrecht, bajo el Proyecto Causas y Consecuencias de los Desastres Naturales, se enrumbara hacia el análisis socio económico de los problemas que la crisis del café estaba causando en la región de Puriscal como región agrícola; el estudio debía comprender, también, la modificación del patrón espacial como producto del fenómeno. De tal manera, se ofrece el patrón espacial de este cultivo a través de algún tiempo, así como las transformaciones (reducciones según áreas) espaciales en el comportamiento del cultivo a raíz de la crisis.

Nos últimos 50 anos, configurou-se o padrão técnico e organizacional da “Revolução Verde” e da Agrobiotecnologia, que provocaram transformações sociais, econômicas, políticas, técnicas e ambientais no meio rural do Estado do Paraná (Brasil), gerando graves impactos ambientais, econômicos e sociais. No último quarto de século, o Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST) tem mobilizado uma grande quantidade de trabalhadores tanto na luta pela terra mas também organiza a luta na terra. Nestas lutas para entrar e para produzir na terra, o MST tem negado o padrão de desenvolvimento agrícola existente no País, colocando em evidência a necessidade da preservação e reconstrução da agricultura camponesa pela via da Reforma Agrária, além de propor formas de gestão e participação do campesinato em sistemas cooperativizados e também sistemas agroecológicos de produção. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar o conjunto dos resultados de nossa Tese de Doutorado, explicitando o conjunto de informações e compreensões práticas e teóricas resultante das metodologias desenvolvidas a campo em vários assentamentos paranaenses, além de discussões geográficas condizentes com o desenvolvimento da agricultura camponesa, reforma agrária, e a potencialidade da agroecologia nos assentamentos rurais, temas pouco a pouco incorporados à produção acadêmica em Geografia Agrária.

Terceiro maior produtor de frutas frescas do mundo, o Brasil se destaca no mercado agrícola por apresentar um clima tropical favorável à produção de diversas frutas. O melão e a manga são exemplos de frutas frescas que apresentam grandes índices de exportação. Os estados do Ceará e do Rio Grande do Norte são responsáveis pela maior parte da produção do melão brasileiro, já o mercado da União Europeia, é responsável quase que pela totalidade da importação do melão brasileiro. O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar a competitividade e as parcelas de mercado do melão brasileiro no mercado mundial, no período de 2003 a 2011, tomando como base o modelo Constant Market Share. Os resultados mostram a diferença de direção dos subperíodos analisados. No primeiro subperíodo, têm-se o crescimento da exportação ocasionado pelo crescimento do comércio mundial e pelo fator competitividade, diferente do segundo período em que há uma queda principalmente na competitividade ocasionando o declínio na exportação da fruta produzida no Brasil

The input of agrochemicals in the aquatic compartment can results in biochemical injuries for living organisms. In this context, the knowledge of alterations of enzymatic activities due the presence of agriculture pollutants contributes for the elucidation of the mechanisms of toxicity, implementation of economic methods for monitoring purposes and establishment of maximum allowed concentrations. In the present work, the above considerations are discussed, and data concerning changes in enzymatic function by pesticides and fertilizer contaminants are reviewed. Also, we focused on the acid phosphatase due its susceptibility to several pollutants and diversity in cellular functions.

Inulin is a functional food ingredient, generally employed as sugar or fat substitute in food systems. This ingredient can be found in several vegetal products, including chicory roots. As the solubility of inulin is susceptible to temperature changes, the product suffers a fractionalization resulting in two phases when cooled, originating a precipitated phase, more viscose, and a liquid phase, of lesser viscosity. The study of rheological properties of different phases of inulin extract is important for equipment designing, such as mixer and bombs. In this work, rheological behavior at three different temperatures (25; 40 and 50 ºC) was determined for liquid and precipitated phases of inulin liquid extract, extracted from chicory roots by hot water diffusion and cooled at two different temperatures (8 and -10 ºC), suffering phases separation. The precipitated phase was analyzed in two conditions: pure and with the addition of microencapsulating agents (maltodextrin and hydrolized starch). All of them presented a linear behavior, similar to that of the Plastics of Bingham. Some of them, however, were not an adequate fit to this model.

In Brazil the adoption of several models of cattle confinement leads to special conditions for management methods in dairy production, which can be improved by the use of technology that assures better herd management. Indexes relating environmental variables to production are applied for the prediction of milk production. The values of temperature and relative humidity, rain index, solar radiation and pasture soil temperature are generally considered potential stress agents for cows. The objective of this research was to develop an index for predicting milk production for high productivity Jersey milking cows lodged in semi confinement in tropical conditions. The experiment considered two treatments: A - the cows waited for 30 minutes prior to milking in a room with a shower associated to a fan; B - the cows did not have access to this room (control). Other than the waiting period, the cows had access to pasture. Differences in the effect of average production were not statistically significant. The analysis for studying the effect of the variables and designing the model led to a statistical model relating the variables milk production and rain index, as well as the maximum soil temperature of pasture, and milk production.

The biodegradability of animal wastes production was evaluated through a simplified methodology that allowed the verification of the applicability of anaerobic processes. The experiments were performed in bath reactors, with granular sludge of three origins: UASB reactor treating dairy effluent, UASB reactor treating swine effluent and UASB reactor treating effluent of slaughterhouse of poultry. The experiments (1) - dairy effluent and poultry slaughterhouse non-adapted sludge; (2) -swine effluent and poultry slaughterhouse non-adapted sludge; (3) - dairy effluent and poultry slaughterhouse adapted sludge; (4) - swine effluent and poultry slaughterhouse adapted sludge; (5) - dairy effluent and dairy sludge, and (6) - swine effluent and swine sludge were performed in Incubator Shaker, at a temperature of 35 °C, under agitation at a 150 rpm, for 5 minutes, every 1 hour. A substrat:biomass relationship of 0.5 was used. Kinetic models of Monod, Zero Order, First and Second Order were tested and it was verified that the First Order model provided the best adjustment. The apparent First Order kinetic parameter (k1) was estimated for the experiments 1; 2; 3; 4; 5, and 6, as 2.51 x 10-2; 2.49 x 10-2; 1.90 x 10-2; 3.09 x 10-2; 2.54 x 10-2; 4.09 x 10-2 h-1, respectively.

This work approaches the forced air cooling of strawberry by numerical simulation. The mathematical model that was used describes the process of heat transfer, based on the Fourier's law, in spherical coordinates and simplified to describe the one-dimensional process. For the resolution of the equation expressed for the mathematical model, an algorithm was developed based on the explicit scheme of the numerical method of the finite differences and implemented in the scientific computation program MATLAB 6.1. The validation of the mathematical model was made by the comparison between theoretical and experimental data, where strawberries had been cooled with forced air. The results showed to be possible the determination of the convective heat transfer coefficient by fitting the numerical and experimental data. The methodology of the numerical simulations was showed like a promising tool in the support of the decision to use or to develop equipment in the area of cooling process with forced air of spherical fruits.

The efficiency of swine production performance depends on the herd administration, such as good nutrition, sanitary control, facilities and appropriate environmental conditions. The concept of this production model is directly related with the reduction of selective losses and the process control. Each production segment is controlled to reach the optimization in the system totality, it is necessary to apply animals handling concepts, environmental control implementation, diseases control, nutrition control, information concerning in guaranteeing the animal welfare and individual identification. The present work presents as objective the development of the mathematical model to evaluate interactions among the internal atmosphere of the installation and the thermal animals preference, in the expectation of detecting a relationship among the frequency access to the drinking fountain and the atmosphere conditions - temperature, black globe temperature and relative humidity, using as tool the electronic identification. The results obtained by the mathematical model, allowed to conclude accurately the evaluation of the swine thermal preference correlating with the climatic variables in the pregnancy stage.

Inulin is a fructooligosacharide found in diverse agricultural products, amongst them garlic, banana, Jerusalem artichoke and chicory root. Inulin generally is used in developed countries, as a substitute of sugar and/or fat due to its characteristics of fitting as functional and dietary food. Chicory root is usually used as source and raw material for commercial extration of inulin. The experiments consisted on drying sliced chicory roots based on a factorial experimental design in a convective dryer whose alows the air to pass perpendicularly through the tray. Effective diffusivity (dependent variable) has been determined for each experimental combination of independent variables (air temperature and velocity). The data curves have been fitted by the solution of the second Fick law and Page's model. Effective difusivity varied from 3.51 x 10-10 m² s-1 to 1.036 x 10-10 m² s-1. It is concluded that, for the range of studied values, air temperature is the only statistically significant variable. So, a first order mathematical model was obtained, representing effective diffusivity behavior as function of air temperature. The best drying condition was correspondent to the trial using the highest drying air temperature.

The research approaches recycling of urban waste compost (UWC) as an alternative fertilizer for sugarcane crop and as a social and environmental solution to the solids residuals growth in urban centers. A mathematical model was used in order to know the metal dynamics as decision support tool, aiming to establish of criteria and procedures for UWC's safe use, limited by the amount of heavy metal. A compartmental model was developed from experimental data in controlled conditions and partially checked with field data. This model described the heavy metal transference in the system soil-root-aerial portion of sugarcane plants and concluded that nickel was metal to be concern, since it takes approximately three years to be attenuated in the soil, reaching the aerial portions of the plant at high concentrations. Regarding factors such as clay content, oxide level and soil pH, it was observed that for soil with higher buffering capacity, the transfer of the majority of the metals was slower. This model may become an important tool for the attainment of laws regarding the UWC use, aiming to reduce environment contamination the waste accumulation and production costs.

As a way to reduce water losses in furrow irrigation systems, used in fresh market tomato production, farmers are improperly distributing water into the field using plastic hose. The objective of this work was to study the suitability of using quick coupler sprinkler as hose connectors for water distribution in tomato plantation. The first step of the study was to assess the current hose field operation for tomato growers. Subsequently, four models of quick couplers sprinklers available in the market were tested in laboratory to determine the coefficient of resistance, the equivalent tube length, the head loss curve and the linking efficiency. As result, a structural design for hose connectors was presented using the model of coupling with the best hydraulic performance. Additionally, some technical recommendations on its use in irrigation water distribution are highlighted. Despite the requirement for additional field trials, the proposed system has potential to optimize the water use efficiency, to improve workers ergonomic conditions, and ensure good profitability to the producer.
