in this work. nickel hexacyanoferrate-modified electrode was developed to determine potassium ions in biodiesel by potentiometry. The modified electrodes exhibit a linear response to potassium ions in the concentration range of 4.0 x 10(-5) to 1.0 x 10(-2) mol L-1, with a detection limit of 1.9 x 10(-5) mol L-1. and a near-Nernstian slope (53-55 mV per decade) at 25 degrees C. The method developed in this work was compared with flame photometry and the potassium concentration found in biodiesel showed that the modified electrode method gives results similar to those obtained by flame photometry. The voltammetric determination of rutin in 0.04 mol l(-1) B-R buffer (pH 4.0) by square wave voltammograms (+0.41 V vs. Ag/AgCl(sat.)) at a poly glutamic acid modified glassy carbon electrode was found to be several orders of magnitude lower than that on a bare glassy carbon electrode. Rutin can be preconcentrated on the films of poly glutamic acid and presented linear relationship from concentration of 7 x 10(-7) to 1 x 10(-5) mol l(-1) in 0.04 mol l(-1) B-R buffer pH 4.0. The method was successfully applied to the determination of rutin in pharmaceutical formulation without any pretreatment.
Flow injection amperometric detection of ascorbic acid using a Prussian Blue film-modified electrode
Resumo:
The PB film-modified electrode was used as an amperometric detector for flow injection analysis of ascorbic acid. The modified electrode detector showed good sensitivity, stability and reproducibility. The calibration curve for ascorbic acid was linear over the concentration range from 5.0 x 10(-6) to 1.0 x 10(-3) mol l(-1) with a slope of 19.9 mA mol(-1) per litre and a correlation coefficient of 0.999. The detection limit of this method was 2.49 x 10(-6) mol l(-1). The relative standard deviation of six replicate injections of 2.5 x 10(-4) mol l(-1) ascorbic acid was 2.5%. The results obtained for ascorbic acid determination in pharmaceutical products are in good agreement with those obtained by using the procedure involving the reaction between triiodide and ascorbic acid. The adsorption isotherms of MCl(2) (M = Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn and Cd) and FeCl3 by silica gel chemically modified with benzimidazole molecules (= SI(CH2)(3)-NC7H5N) were studied in ethanol solution at 298 K. A column made of modified silica was used to adsorb and preconcentrate the above metal ions from ethanol solution. Elution was done with 0.1 M hydrochloric acid in an ethanol/water mixture having a mole fraction of water of 0.8. The material was applied in the preconcentration of metal ions from commercial ethanol normally used as engine fuel.

The ESR spectrum of CuCl2 adsorbed onto a silica gel surface chemically modified with the benzimidazole molecule showed that the surface complex has an octahedral symmetry with tetragonal distortion. The measured ESR parameters were g(parallel to) = 2.287, g(perpendicular to) = 2.062, A(parallel to) = 153 G and superhyperfine splitting A(N) = 15 G. The fit of the theoretical expressions to the experimental data was very reasonable. The effective spin orbit coupling constant for Cu2+ was reduced from its normal free ion value of lambda = -828 cm(-1) by as much as 30%. This reduction of lambda is normal in the solid state and in frozen solution complexes.

Silica gel surface was chemically modified with beta-diketoamine groups by reacting the silanol from the silica surface with 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane and 3-bromopentanedione, With this material, copper ions were adsorbed from aqueous solutions, the chemical analysis of the silica-gel-immobilized acetylacetone provided a quantity of 0.67 mmol g(-1) of organic groups attached to the support and 0.63 mmol g(-1) of copper, This material was used as a stationary phase in IMAC (immobilized metal affinity chromatography), to separate alpha-lactoalbumin from bovine milk whey, the results showed an efficient separation in the chromatographic column, the possibility of reutilization of the stationary phase was also investigated. The carbonyl complexes [WCl(CO)(3)(bipy) (HgCl)] (1), [Fe(CO)(4)(HgCl)(2)] (2) and W(CO)(6)] (3) were immobilized on a silica gel surface organofunctionalized with piperazine groups. The products obtained were studied by IR spectroscopy and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques. The IR data show that the immobilization of heterobimetallic compounds 1 and 2, on the functionalized surface, occurred through the mercury atom, while for 3 the displacement of one CO group by the nitrogen of a piperazine molecule was observed. The data obtained from SAXS indicate that particles have a uniform size and reveal suitable modifications on the functionalized surface after immobilization of metal carbonyl complexes. The average intermolecular distance (l(ij)) for piperazine ligands on support is 8.7 Angstrom, for the metal carbonyl complex 1 it is 18.8 Angstrom, for complex 2 it is 16.2 Angstrom and for complex 3 it is 15.3 Angstrom. Covalently attached benzimidazole molecules on silica gel surface, ≡SiL (where L = N-propyl-benzimidazole), adsorbs Co(ClO4)2 from non-aqueous solvent by forming a surface complex according to the reaction: m ≡SiL + Co(ClO4)2 → (≡SiL)mCo(ClO4)2. The equilibrium constant and the adsorption capacity, determined by applying the Langmuir equation were b = 3.0 × 103 L mol-1 and Ns= 0.098 × 10-3 mol g-1, respectively. The metal is bonded through the nitrogen atom and the perchlorate ion is not coordinated. The ESR study indicated that the complex has essentially an octahedral geometry with tetragonal distortion, with the electrons of the four nitrogen atoms interacting with the cobalt central metal ion in the equatorial plane. Only one complex species was detected on the surface.

The isotherms of adsorption of CuX2 (X=Cl-, Br-, ClO- 4) by silica gel chemically modified with 2-aminothiazole were studied in acetone and EtOH solutions, at 25°C. The 2-aminothiazole molecule, covalently bond to the silica gel surface, adsorbs CuX2 from solvent by forming a surface complex. At low loading, the electronic and E.S.R. spectral parameters indicate that the Cu2+ complexes have a distorted tetragonal symmetry. The d-d eletronic transition spectra show that for ClO- 4 complex, the peak of absorption do not change for any degree of metal loading whilst for Cl- and Br- complexes, the peak maxima shift to higher energy with lower metal loading. © Elsevier Science Ltd.

Improvement of the operational stability of amperometric sensors based on Prussian Blue (PB) modified glassy carbon electrodes is presented. The long term performance of the sensors was evaluated by injection of hydrogen peroxide (5 μM in potassium buffer) solutions in a flow-injection system during a period of 5-10 h. The following parameters were investigated and correlated with the performance of the sensor: the times for electrodeposition and electrochemical activation, temperature, storage time, pH, composition of the buffer solution and of volume sample injected. These analytical characteristics of the modified electrode can be emphasized: initial sensitivity of 0.3 A cm-2 M-1, detection limit of ca. 0.5 μM, precise results (r.s.d.< 1.5%) and possibility to carry out around 50 samples (50 μL) per hour.

A flow-injection system with a glassy carbon disk electrode modified with Prussian Blue film is proposed for the determination of persulfate in commercial samples of hair bleaching boosters by amperometry. The detection was obtained by chronoamperometric technique and the sample is injected into the electrochemical cell in a wall jet configuration. Potassium chloride at concentration of 0.1 mol L-1 acted as sample carrier at a flow rate of 4.0 mL min-1 and supporting-electrolyte. For 0.025 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) applied voltage, the proposed system handles ca. 160 samples per hour (1.0 10-4 - 1.0 10-3 mol L-1 of persulfate), consuming about 200 μL sample and 11 mg KCl per determination. Typical linear correlations between electrocatalytic current and persulfate concentration was ca. 0.9998. The detection limit is 9.0 10-5 mol L-1 and the calculated amperometric sensibility 3.6 103 μA L mol -1. Relative standard deviation (n =12) of a 1.0 10-4 mol L-1 sample is about 2.2%. The method was applied to persulfate determination in commercial hair-bleaching samples and results are in agreement with those obtained by titrimetry at 95% confidence level and good recoveries (95 - 112%) of spiked samples were found. © 2003 by MDPI.

A voltammetric method for the determination of ethyl acetate in ethanol fuel using a Fe3+/Nafion®-coated glassy carbon electrode (GCE) is proposed. The ethyl acetate present in the ethanol fuel was previously converted to acetohydroxamic acid via pretreatment with hydroxylamine chloride. The acetohydroxamic acid promptly reacted with the iron (III) present in the film, producing iron (III) acetohydroxamate, which presents a well-defined voltammetric peak current at -0.02 V. Optimization of the voltammetric parameters for the cyclic, linear sweep, square wave, and differential pulse modalities was carried out for this chemically-modified electrode. Square wave voltammetry afforded the best response for acetohydroxamic acid detection. The analytical curve for this species was linear from 9 to 100 μmol L 1 according to the following equation: ip (μA) = 0.27 + 2.55Cacetohydroxamic acid (μmol L 1), with linear correlation coefficient equal to 0.993. The technique presented limit of detection equal to 5.3 μmol L 1 and quantification limit of 17.6 μmol L 1. The proposed method was compared to the official method of ethyl acetate analysis (Gas Chromatography), and a satisfactory correlation was found between these techniques. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
