Die Arbeit behandelt die numerische Untersuchung von Wasserstoff-Moleküldynamik in starken Laserfeldern. Im Speziellen wird die Struktur von Ionisationsspektren bei Einfach-Photoionisation betrachtet. Korrelationen zwischen Elektron- und Kernbewegung werden identifiziert und mit Effekten in den Energiespektren in Verbindung gebracht. Dabei wird stets auf die Integration der zeitabhängigen Schrödingergleichung zurückgegriffen.

Die Arbeit befasst sich mit dem Zusammenhang zwischen einfachen Molekülen und deren Verhalten in starken, kurzen Laserfeldern. Einerseits wird versucht, strukturelle Daten des Moleküls in den Elektronen- und Photonenspektren wiederzuerkennen. Andererseits geht es darum, ein Bild der elektronischen Wellenfunktion aus den spektralen Daten abzuleiten.

Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a late-onset chronic autoimmune disease (AID) affecting the exocrine glands, mainly the salivary and lachrymal. Genetic studies on twins with primary SS have not been performed, and only a few case reports describing twins have been published. The prevalence of primary SS in siblings has been estimated to be 0.09% while the reported general prevalence of the disease is approximately 0.1%. The observed aggregation of AIDs in families of patients with primary SS is nevertheless supportive for a genetic component in its etiology. In the absence of chromosomal regions identified by linkage studies, research has focused on candidate gene approaches (by biological plausibility) rather than on positional approaches. Ancestral haplotype 8.1 as well as TNF, IL10 and SSA1 loci have been consistently associated with the disease although they are not specific for SS. In this review, the genetic component of SS is discussed on the basis of three known observations: (a) age at onset and sex-dependent presentation, (b) familial clustering of the disease, and (c) dissection of the genetic component. Since there is no strong evidence for a specific genetic component in SS, a large international and collaborative study would be suitable to assess the genetics of this disorder.

Model catalysts of Pd nanoparticles and films on TiO2 (I 10) were fabricated by metal vapour deposition (MVD). Molecular beam measurements show that the particles are active for CO adsorption, with a global sticking probability of 0.25, but that they are deactivated by annealing above 600 K, an effect indicative of SMSI. The Pd nanoparticles are single crystals oriented with their (I 11) plane parallel to the surface plane of the titania. Analysis of the surface by atomic resolution STM shows that new structures have formed at the surface of the Pd nanoparticles and films after annealing above 800 K. There are only two structures, a zigzag arrangement and a much more complex "pinwheel" structure. The former has a unit cell containing 7 atoms, and the latter is a bigger unit cell containing 25 atoms. These new structures are due to an overlayer of titania that has appeared on the surface of the Pd nanoparticles after annealing, and it is proposed that the surface layer that causes the SMSI effect is a mixed alloy of Pd and Ti, with only two discrete ratios of atoms: Pd/Ti of 1: 1 (pinwheel) and 1:2 (zigzag). BACKGROUND: The bacterial biothreat agents Burkholderia mallei and Burkholderia pseudomallei are the cause of glanders and melioidosis, respectively. Genomic and epidemiological studies have shown that B. mallei is a recently emerged, host restricted clone of B. pseudomallei. RESULTS: Using bacteriophage-mediated immunoscreening we identified genes expressed in vivo during experimental equine glanders infection. A family of immunodominant antigens were identified that share protein domain architectures with hemagglutinins and invasins. These have been designated Burkholderia Hep_Hag autotransporter (BuHA) proteins. A total of 110/207 positive clones (53%) of a B. mallei expression library screened with sera from two infected horses belonged to this family. This contrasted with 6/189 positive clones (3%) of a B. pseudomallei expression library screened with serum from 21 patients with culture-proven melioidosis. CONCLUSION: Members of the BuHA proteins are found in other Gram-negative bacteria and have been shown to have important roles related to virulence. Compared with other bacterial species, the genomes of both B. mallei and B. pseudomallei contain a relative abundance of this family of proteins. The domain structures of these proteins suggest that they function as multimeric surface proteins that modulate interactions of the cell with the host and environment. Their effect on the cellular immune response to B. mallei and their potential as diagnostics for glanders requires further study.
