Torpedograss (Panicum repens L.) is one of the most invasive exotic plants in aquatic systems. Repeat applications of (N-phosphonomethyl) glycine (glyphosate) herbicides provide limited control of torpedograss; unfortunately, glyphosate often negatively impacts most non-target native species that grow alongside the weed. This experiment studied the effect of glyphosate on pickerelweed (Pontederia cordata L.), a native plant that shares habitats with torpedograss. Actively growing plants of torpedograss and pickerelweed were cultured in 8-liter containers and sprayed to wet with one of four rates of glyphosate: 0%, 0.75%, 1.0%, or 1.5%. Each treatment included a surfactant to aid in herbicide uptake and a surface dye to verify uniform application of the treatments. All herbicide treatments were applied with a backpack sprayer to intact plants and to cut stubble of both species. Four replicates were treated for each species-rategrowth combination during each of two experiment periods. Plant dry weights 8 weeks after herbicide application suggest that torpedograss was effectively controlled by the highest rate of glyphosate applied to cut stubble. Pickerelweed was unaffected when the highest rate of glyphosate was applied as a cut-and-spray treatment. These data suggest that a cut-and-spray application of a 1.5% solution of glyphosate may be an effective strategy to control torpedograss without deleteriously affecting pickerelweed. Prey-size selectivity by Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) is relevant for understanding the foraging behavior of this declining predator, but studies have been problematic because of the absence and erosion of otoliths usually used to estimate fish length. Therefore, we developed regression formulae to estimate fish length from seven diagnostic cranial structures of walleye pollock (Theragra chalcogramma) and Atka mackerel (Pleurogrammus monopterygius). For both species, all structure measurements were related with fork length of prey (r2 range: 0.78−0.99). Fork length (FL) of walleye pollock and Atka mackerel consumed by Steller sea lions was estimated by applying these regression models to cranial structures recovered from scats (feces) collected between 1998 and 2000 across the range of the Alaskan western stock of Steller sea lions. Experimentally derived digestion correction factors were applied to take into account loss of size due to digestion. Fork lengths of walleye pollock consumed by Steller sea lions ranged from 3.7 to 70.8 cm (mean=39.3 cm, SD=14.3 cm, n=666) and Atka mackerel ranged from 15.3 to 49.6 cm (mean=32.3 cm, SD=5.9 cm, n=1685). Although sample sizes were limited, a greater proportion of juvenile (≤20 cm) walleye pollock were found in samples collected during the summer (June−September) on haul-out sites (64% juveniles, n=11 scats) than on summer rookeries (9% juveniles, n=132 scats) or winter (February−March) haul-out sites (3% juveniles, n=69 scats). Annual changes in the size of Atka mackerel consumed by Steller sea lions corresponded to changes in the length distribution of Atka mackerel resulting from exceptionally strong year classes. Considerable overlap (>51%) in the size of walleye pollock and Atka mackerel taken by Steller sea lions and the sizes of these species caught by the commercial trawl fishery were demonstrated.

Integrated agriculture-aquaculture systems have been in existence in Thailand for centuries. This country has the most varied integrated farming operations in southeast Asia; pig, cattle, buffalo, chicken, duck, vegetable, aquatic plant, rice and orchard in combination with fish are practices. The systems most preferred by subsistence farmers are rice-fish, duck-fish and chicken-fish culture. A brief outline is given of these 3 systems.

以黄土高原沟壑区砂石覆盖苹果园为研究对象,对600 cm范围内土壤剖面水分含量的时间分异和空间分布状况进行了研究。结果表明:600 cm土层范围内,一周年内可划分为冬季增墒期和夏季失墒期两个阶段;土壤剖面水分空间分布随土壤深度的增加呈现波动性变化且稳定性不同,土壤含水量变化幅度随土层深度增加而变小,据此可将600 cm范围内的土壤剖面划分为速变层、相对稳定层、缓变层和稳定层;土壤水分在不同层次上的分布差异,8月土壤剖面不同层次含水量差异最大,11月次之,5月再次之,1月土壤不同层次含水量差异最小。综合看来,除土壤表层因砂石覆盖水分增加外,土壤剖面含水量随土壤深度的增加而减少且趋于稳定,水分下渗能力减弱;冬季土壤含水量多且分布均匀,夏季土壤水分减少且主要集中在上层,此时土壤不同层次水分含量差异大。

在黄土高原沟壑区王东沟小流域,在塬面、梁地和坡地三种地貌类型上,分别选取了盛果期果园、老果园和退耕还田等3种土地利用与管理方式,测定土壤0~400 cm(塬面0~600 cm)水分含量分布,研究果园的利用管理方式变化对土壤剖面中水分含量变化的影响。结果表明,梁地和坡地上,盛果期果园、老果园土壤水分含量均接近作物凋萎湿度(10%);塬面上,盛果期果园、老果园土壤水分含量为15%。退果4年的耕地、坡地0~400 cm土层土壤储水量显著增加,梁地和塬面虽有增加但与老果园相比,剖面储水量并没有达到显著水平;退果4年耕地、坡地和梁地剖面中的60~140 cm和220~400 cm含水量提高最显著,塬面上220~600 cm土层中水分提高显著。

通过对长武王东沟村农户土地利用结构及经济收入的详细调查,揭示了2007年王东沟小流域不同收入类型农户的土地利用结构现状、1998-2007年的土地利用结构变化情况、产业结构和投入产出情况及其经济效益等。结果表明当前农户最主要的土地利用方式是果园和耕地,收入的主要来源是工副业和果业,各类型间农户收入及其构成差异显著。不同收入水平农户的效益差异与有自然条件、管理水平及劳动力水平等因素有关。提出王东沟小流域应结合目前政策形势调整农户种植结构,合理配置土地资源,发展第三产业以提高经济收入等建议。

黄土高原沟壑区王东沟流域从1986年至2006年的土地利用/覆被发生了较大变化,土地利用动态指数分别为:耕地3.21%,园地-36.11%,林地-4.05%,牧草地4.24%,居民点及独立工矿用地-0.62%,交通运输用地-12.27%,未利用地1.85%;变化趋势是:耕地逐年向园地流转,园地变化烈度较大,其他各类用地变化不太显著。引起这一变化的主要因素是自然、社会、经济、技术以及政策因素。结合这一变化,针对黄土高原沟壑区的实际情况,在黄土高原沟壑区土地利用经营与管理方面,应重视土地产出效益与粮食安全的关系,在保障区域粮食安全的基础上实现效益最大化。

管理措施是影响土壤质量演变的重要因素。分析和讨论了5、101、5年苹果园耕层(0—20 cm)和0—200 cm土壤有机碳、全氮、全磷、有效磷和硝态氮含量及其影响因素。结果表明,5年、10年和15年的塬面苹果园表层土壤有机碳依次为7.5、6.7和6.7 g/kg;全氮依次为0.940、.85和0.83 g/kg;但土壤全磷和速效磷含量随着种植年限而增加,与5年苹果园相比,塬面10年苹果园土壤全磷、速效磷含量分别提高了11%、60%,并且磷素的变异性随年限而增加。坡地10年、15年和20年苹果园土壤有机碳依次为6.36、.2和6.5 g/kg,全氮依次为0.76、0.76和0.81 g/kg;与10年苹果园相比,15年苹果园土壤全磷、速效磷含量分别提高了20%、28%。土壤剖面0—80 cm内不同土地利用方式土壤碳、氮、磷含量随土层加深而降低,80 cm以下不同利用条件苹果园土壤碳、磷含量差异不大,氮素含量在100 cm土层下随苹果园种植年限增加而增加。

以黄土高原沟壑区的苹果园为研究对象,对6~36 a苹果园土壤重金属含量状况进行研究,结果发现,该区苹果园的高投入种植管理模式,能够影响重金属在土壤中的迁移与富集,使土壤重金属含量发生明显变化。土壤Cu含量随树龄增加而增加,20 a以上的土壤-果树系统对土壤Cu的输入与输出趋于平衡,Cu含量变化不大,且耕层土壤Cu含量较高。Cr含量随树龄线性递增,36 a果园0~20 cm,20~40 cm和40~60 cm土层Cr含量分别比6 a果园增加27.14%,17.09%和19.17%。Cd含量随树龄增加先增加后减少,长期大量施用磷肥是土壤Cd的主要来源,果园生态系统深层土壤Cd含量的峰值比耕层提前出现。Pb含量以15~26 a果园含量最高,树龄<15 a和>26 a时Pb含量较低。Hg含量则以15 a为转折点,在不同土层上呈现出不同的变化趋势。As含量在树龄<15 a时逐渐降低,15~20 a时逐渐增加,20 a以后果园土壤As含量趋于不变,且各土层之间差异不显著。

2007年实地观测固原上黄村1 500 m2设防雹网梨园土壤水分、空气、湿度等微生境条件变化程度,研究分析了防雹网对宁南山区梨园生境状况的影响。结果表明:梨园使用防雹网能改善果园小气候,提高梨园1 m高度空气相对湿度,其日变化符合y=ax2-bx+c二次抛物线,晴天的曲线曲率高于阴天,梨园1 m高度温度有防雹网低于无防雹网;0~200 cm土壤剖面的水分含量有防雹网高于没有防雹网;同时,使用防雹网能够在白天降低土壤温度,夜间维持较高的土壤温度,缓解土壤温度的变化幅度,特别是表层温度变化更明显。

采用田间取样与室内分析相结合的方法,研究了黄土高原坡地苹果园肥力状况与矿质氮累积。结果表明,坡地苹果园土壤肥力低,氮、磷严重缺乏,钾相对丰富,土壤属于砂壤土,通气性强,保肥、保水性差。0—60cm土层土壤有机质含量为9.24~28.12g/kg,全氮为0.22~0.60g/kg,速效磷为0.17~16.08mg/kg,速效钾为80.06~168.39mg/kg;黄土高原坡地苹果园中NO3-—N有深层累积分布,累积深度大于2m,在180—200cm层最高累积量达249.61kg/hm2,而NH4+—N无深层累积。不同施肥处理对土壤剖面中的NH4+—N和NO3-—N含量分布影响不同,对NH4+—N含量和分布影响不明显,但不同施肥方式对NO3-—N含量分布影响显著。施加氮肥促进NO3-—N深层累积,施加磷肥有助于降低土层中的NO3-—N含量,缩小富集量的分布范围。

在黄土高原沟壑区王东沟小流域,针对塬面、梁地和坡地三种地形,分别选取了盛果期果园、老果园和退果还耕地等,研究了退果还耕条件下,三种地貌类型土壤剖面中水分含量变化及NO_3~--N、NH_4~+-N积累和迁移规律。结果表明,无论塬面、梁地或者坡地上,果园土壤水分含量显著降低(10%~14%);果园退耕后,土壤水分开始缓慢恢复。盛果期,塬面NO_3~--N峰值主要处于100—200 cm之间,退果还耕后,100 cm以上土层中NO_3~--N含量降低,100cm以下NO_3~--N积累量在增加,并且峰值不断向下移动。盛果期果园NO_3~--N积累量为631~3032 kg/hm~2;退果还耕地、老果园NO_3~--N积累量都显著高于盛果期果园。盛果期40%以上的NO_3~--N积累在100—200 cm土层,但退果还耕地上50%左右集中分布在200—300 cm土层。土地利用与管理方式的变化对NH_4~+-N分布特征的影响并不明显。

文章研究纸坊沟流域内草地、农地、林地、灌丛四种不同生态系统类型植被生产力及逐年生物量,估算各生态系统类型固定CO2和释放O2的能力,并根据生态学原理和生态经济学方法,运用碳税法、造林成本法和影子价格法,推算出各生态类型固定CO2和释放O2气体的生态、调节服务功能价值。研究表明,1985~2001年流域总生物量年均生物量和总体呈线性增加趋势。由于各种治理措施的实施和退耕还林(草)政策的正确导向,纸坊沟流域土地利用趋于合理,CO2/O2气体调节服务功能价值逐步增强,流域生态经济系统向良性演变。不同生态系统类型气体调节功能价值的估算为退耕还林(草)年限及生态补偿提供了科学决策依据。
