Incorporação de mucuna-preta e de restos culturais de milho antes da cultura do feijão (Phaseolus vugaris L.) de inverno

The experiments were conducted during two years (1990/91 and 1992/93), to study the effects of the incorporation of bengal velvetbean and of residues on the development and yield of the winter bean crops. The trial was developed in experimental field at the Faculdade de Engenharia de Ilha Solteira, UNESP, located in Selvíria, MS, Brazil, in dark red latosol covered by savanna vegetation. It was concluded that: the incorporation of residues of corn or corn + bengal velvetbean or only bengal velvetbean had no effects on soil chemical characteristics, evaluated 80 days after the residues incorporation; in yield and bean crop development, no statistical differences were observed among treatments.

Expressão dos filamentos intermediários no diagnóstico dos tumores mamários de cadelas

Immunohistochemical evaluation was performed to study the histogenesis of canine mammary tumors and to contribute to a better understanding of their classification. Monoclonal antibodies specific for different types of intermediate filaments (cytokeratins, vimentin, α-actin) were used. Epithelial cells stained positively for cytokeratins and their expression was lost as the malignant transformation occurs. Myoepithelial cells stained positively for vimentin and α-actin. In contrast to vimentin, α-actin lost the expression as the cartilaginous or osseous metaplasia occurs. Immunohistochemical evaluation with monoclonal antibodies proved to be efficient for identification of tumor histogenesis.

Avaliação estatística de métodos de poda aplicados em neurônios intermediários da rede neural MLP

There are several papers on pruning methods in the artificial neural networks area. However, with rare exceptions, none of them presents an appropriate statistical evaluation of such methods. In this article, we proved statistically the ability of some methods to reduce the number of neurons of the hidden layer of a multilayer perceptron neural network (MLP), and to maintain the same landing of classification error of the initial net. They are evaluated seven pruning methods. The experimental investigation was accomplished on five groups of generated data and in two groups of real data. Three variables were accompanied in the study: apparent classification error rate in the test group (REA); number of hidden neurons, obtained after the application of the pruning method; and number of training/retraining epochs, to evaluate the computational effort. The non-parametric Friedman's test was used to do the statistical analysis.

Impacto das tecnologias de informação e comunicação: cultura digital e mudanças sócio-culturais

The contemporaneous culture presents new con ditions of interaction with the information flows in the knowledge construction. Multidimensional codifications stimulate the brain and impress meaning to concepts initially empty. Culture is redefined as mosaic-culture, composed by a diversity of media and by immersion in the messages' sphere. In emerge nt countries like Brazil that propose to capacitate citizens for action and for interaction, the aims should imply the respect to the cultural specificities and in the real improvement of the citizens welfare. Information Science in this context must seek theorizations and practices that contribute to social improvements, capacitating and a better understanding of the challenges of Social Web. If the PISA examination demonstrates the County's frailness relating to the information, the 2011 Unicef report point to opportunities. The Universities have an essential role in the capacitating and in the creation of professional contingents, developing their own potentialities in the study, research and knowledge production for a better use of the Information and Communication Technologies. The man-machinery interfaces offer new problems to be dealt together with the literacy lags in Brazil: if information needs to be communicated to re-elaborate in knowledge, its representational supports need to be learnt as technological processes. Implementing informational ambiences studies will produce material for analyses, for the understanding and for the cultural practices importation, converting them to the contextualization of the Country's needs.
