This paper examines key aspects of Allan Gibbard's psychological account of moral activity. Inspired by evolutionary theory, Gibbard paints a naturalistic picture of morality mainly based on two specific types of emotion: guilt and anger. His sentimentalist and expressivist analysis is also based on a particular conception of rationality. I begin by introducing Gibbard's theory before testing some key assumptions underlying his system against recent empirical data and theories. The results cast doubt on some crucial aspects of Gibbard's philosophical theory, namely his reduction of morality to anger and guilt, and his theory of 'normative governance'. Gibbard's particular version of expressivism may be undermined by these doubts.

NKG2D is a multisubunit activation receptor that allows natural killer (NK) cells to detect and eliminate stressed, infected, and transformed host cells. However, the chronic exposure of NK cells to cell-bound NKG2D ligands has been shown to impair NKG2D function both in vitro and in vivo. Here we have tested whether continuous NKG2D engagement selectively impacted NKG2D function or whether heterologous NK cell activation pathways were also affected. We found that sustained NKG2D engagement induced cross-tolerization of several unrelated NK cell activation receptors. We show that receptors that activate NK cells via the DAP12/KARAP and DAP10 signaling adaptors, such as murine NKG2D and Ly49D, cross-tolerize preferentially NK cell activation pathways that function independent of DAP10/12, such as antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity and missing-self recognition. Conversely, DAP10/12-independent pathways are unable to cross-tolerize unrelated NK cell activation receptors such as NKG2D or Ly49D. These data define a class of NK cell activation receptors that can tolerize mature NK cells. The reversible suppression of the NK cells' cytolytic function probably reduces the NK cells' efficacy to control endogenous and exogenous stress yet may be needed to limit tissue damage

The paper explains a teaching project financed by the University of Barcelona (UB). It focuses on ageneric skill of the University of Barcelona, which is defined as "the learning capability andresponsibility”, and in which analytical and synthesis skills are included. It follows a multidisciplinaryapproach including teachers of Mathematics, World Economics and Economic History. All of us sharethe same students during the first and the second course of the grade in Economics at the Faculty ofEconomics and Business. The project has been developed in three stages. The first one has beendone during the first semester of the course 2012/13, being applied to first year students on thesubjects of Mathematics and Economic History. The second phase is being to be done during thesecond semester only on the Economic History subject. A third stage is going to be done next course2013/14 to second year students on the subject of World Economics. Each different teaching teamhas developed specific materials and assessment tools for each one of the subjects included in theproject. The project emphasizes two teaching dimensions: the elaboration of teaching materials topromote the acquisition of generic skills from an interdisciplinary point of view, and the design ofspecific tools to assess such skills. The first results of the first phase of the project shows cleardeficiencies in the analytical skill regarding to first year students.
