Four new compounds AgLnW(2)O(8) (Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb and Dy) are prepared by solid-state reactions. They crystallize with a scheelite-related monoclinic symmetry. Infrared (IR) spectra show complicated absorption transitions in the region of 1000-400 cm(-1) that are similar to those of AgLnMo(2)O(8). Broad excitation and emission bands of the tungstate group are observed in AgGdW2O8 and AgTbW2O8 with a large Stokes shift, 12 573 and 12 387 cm(-1), respectively. Excitation and emission spectra of AgLnW(2)O(8) (Ln = Eu, Gd and Tb) show that energy transfer from the tungstate to EU3+, Gd3+ and Tb3+ occurs and that Eu3+ ions occupy a single crystallographic site with the C-2 Site symmetry. A high-temperature, high-pressure extraction technique with toluene and pyridine were employed for the extraction of metallofullerenes Gd@C-2n, A series of Gd@C-2n for 2n from 70 to 96 were effectively extracted by toluene. Gd@C-74 was shown to be a new stable soluble metallofullerene species. Pyridine was found to be more useful for the extraction of Gd@C-82 and Gd-2@C-80 from empty fullerenes and other metallofullerene species.

[(Bu(t)Cp)(2)LnCH(3)](2) (Ln = Nd, Gd) react with PhC=CH to form the dimeric alkynide-bridged complexes [(Bu(t)Cp)(2)LnC=CPh](2) [Ln = Nd (I), Gd (II)]. Both compounds crystallized from toluene in the monoclinic space group C2/c. The two complexes are homologous, composed of asymmetric metal-alkynide bridges with Nd-C, Gd-C (alkynide) bond lengths of 2.602(4), 2.641(5) (I) and 2.532(6), 2.601(7) Angstrom (II), respectively. The average Nd-C (ring) and Gd-C (ring) distances are 2.746(13) and 2.703(19)Angstrom.

Endohedral metallofullerene Gd@C-2n were synthesized with high-yield using the carbon-arc discharge method of activating the Gd2O3-containing graphite anode in situ and back-burning technique. A series of Gd@C-2n for 2n from 70 to 96 were effectively extracted by toluene at high-temperature and under high-pressure condition. Gd@C-82, Gd@C-74 were considered to be fairly stable and soluble metallofullerene species.

LnCl(3) reacted with C6H5CH2C5H4Na in THF (tetrahydrofuran) in the ratio 1.1 at room temperature for 1 h giving C(6)H(5)CH(2)C(6)H(4)LnCl(2) . nTHF, which reacted with C8H8K2/THF and the crystals obtained were recrystallized in DME to yield the title complex. The crystal structure of (C8H8) Ln (C6H5CH2C5H4). DME was determined revealing that the Gd complex has one conformation. One benzylcyclopentadienyl (eta(5)), one cyclooctatetraenyl (eta(8)) and the two oxygen atoms of DME (dimethoxyethane) are coordinated to Gd with the effective coordination number of 10.

Three new oxides Sm2SrCo2O7, Sm2BaCo2O7 and Gd2SrCo2O7 have been synthesized successfully by solid state reaction mathod. The X-Ray diffraction spectra show that they are all isostructural with Sr3Ti2O7, and Ln(2)SrCo(2)O(7)(Ln=Sm,Gd) crystallized in tetragonal system, Sm2BaCo2O7 in orthrhombic system. The Co-O bonds in CoO2 planes of Ln(2)SrCo(2)O(7) are shorter than those of LnSrCoO(4)(Ln=Sm, Gd), and so their delectrons are more delocalized and their electrical resistivities are smaller. The electrical resistivities versus temperature in the range 300 similar to 1100K showed that the five brides show the characters of weakly localized systems. In the lower temperature range, the magnetic behaviors of Gd2SrCo2O7 and GdSrCoO4 fit Curie-Weiss law well, and the magnetic exchange reaction in CoO2 sublattices of Gd2SrCo2O7 is ferromagnetic, but that of GdSrCoO4 is antiferromagnetic. The other three oxides with Sm3+ showed complex magnetic behaviors which is perhaps related with the complexity of Sm3+.

The effects of mechanical alloying on the solubility in a Ag-Gd solid solution have been investigated. The study shows that the solubility of Gd in Ag can be extended to about 5 at. % Gd by mechanical alloying from the equilibrium solubility of less than 0.95 at. % Gd. Ag85Gd15 prepared by mechanical alloying exhibits a spin-glass-type transition at similar to 5 K. A Curie-Weiss behavior at higher temperatures and x-ray patterns of the material indicate that Gd atoms are either dissolved in the Ag matrix or in the form of small clusters of diameters of a few nanometers;

In this paper, the luminescence properties of Eu3+ and Dy3+ in the oxyapatites M(2)RE(8)(SiO4)(6)O-2 (M=Mg, Ca; RE=Y, Gd, La) were studied. The spectral characters of Eu3+ were discussed in relation to the crystal structure. The dependence of the red-to-orange intensity ratio and the position of the charge transfer band of Eu3+ and the yellow-to-blue intensity ratio of Dy3+ together with their fluorescence intensities (I-R for Eu3+ and I-Y for Dy3+) On the M(2+) and the substitution of BO45- and PO43- for SiO44- was discussed. Finally, the concentration quenching of Dy3+ luminescence was reported.

LnCl(3) (Ln = Nd, Gd) reacts with C5H9C5H4Na (or K2C8H8) in THF (C5H9C5H4 = cyclopentylcyclopentadienyl) in the ratio of 1:1 to give (C5H9C5H4)LnCl(2)(THF)(n) (or (C8H8)LnCl(2)(THF)(n)], which further reacts with K2C8H8 (or C5H9C5H4Na) in THF to form the title complexes. If Ln = Nd the complex (C8H8)Nd(C5H9C5H4)(THF)(2) (a) was obtained: when Ln = Gd the 1:1 complex [(C8H8)Gd(C5H9C5H4)(THF)][(C5H8)Gd(C5H9C5H4)(THF)(2)] (b) was obtained in crystalline form. The crystal structure analysis shows that in (C8H8)Ln(C5H9C5H4)(THF)(2) (Ln = Nd or Gd), the Cyclopentylcyclopentadienyl (eta(5)), cyclooctatetraenyl (eta(8)) and two oxygen atoms from THF are coordinated to Nd3+ (or Gd3+) with coordination number 10. The centroid of the cyclopentadienyl ring (Cp') in C5H9C5H4 group, cyclooctatetraenyl centroid (COT) and two oxygens (THF) form a twisted tetrahedron around Nd3+ (or Gd3+). In (C8H8)Gd(C5H9C5H4)(THF), the cyclopentyl-cyclopentadienyl (eta(5)), cyclooctatetraenyl (eta(8)) and one oxygen atom are coordinated to Gd3+ with the coordination number of 9 and Cp', COT and oxygen atom form a triangular plane around Gd3+, which is almost in the plane (dev. - 0.0144 Angstrom).

Three new oxides Ln(2)MCo(2)O(7) (Ln = Sm, Gd; M = Sr, Ba) have been synthesized in solid state reaction method. The powder X-ray diffraction spectra show that they are all isostructural with Sr3Ti2O7. The electrical resistivities in the temperature range 300-1100 K show that they are all semiconductors, and a transition to metals is observed at 1053, 1053, and 573 K for Sm2SrCo2O7, Gd2SrCo2O7, and Sm2BaCo2O7, respectively. The magnetic suspectivities of Gd2SrCo2O7 in the temperature range 300-673 K fit the Curie-Weiss law well. A plateau is observed in the curves of Sm(2)MCo(2)O(7) (M = Sr, Ba) which is attributed to the configuration state change of Co(III) from low spin to high spin. (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc.

采用固相反应法合成了接Ce3+、Gd3+、Tb3+的CaLaB7O13,并测定了它们的光谱.在Ce3+的光谱中发现文献中尚未报导的317nm激发峰和293nm发射峰.293发射属于不常见的5d能带中次最低能级向基态的跃迁,并随着Ce3+离子浓度增加而变弱,当掺杂浓度大于0.1mol时,293nm发射峰消失.

用固相反应法合成了三个新的交生相氧化物:Sm_2SrCo_2O_7,Gd_2SrCO_2O_7和Sm_2BaCo_2O_7.它们均具有Sr_3Ti_2O_7型的结构,其中Sm_2BaCo_2O_7属于正交晶系,其它属于四方晶系.与LnSrCoO_4相比,Ln_2SrCo_2O_7(Ln=Sm,Gd)中CoO_2平面上的Co-O键缩短,电子离域化趋势增强,导电能力提高.在300~1100K之间,电阻率与温度关系表明,五个氧化物均表现弱定域系统的特性. 300~1100K之间的磁化率与温度关系表明,在较低温度下,GdSrCoO_4和Gd_2SrCo_2O_7符合Curie-Weiss定律,但前者的CoO_2平面上的磁交换作用是反铁磁性的,而后者是铁磁性的;含Sm~(3+)的三个氧化物表现出较为复杂的磁性质,这可能与Sm~(3+)离子磁性质的复杂性有关.
